View Full Version : Mixed Feelings about Spider-Man 3 and why there still can be a Spider Man 4.

*The following contains some heavy spoilers, you have been warned*

Ok, first of all, I love the first two Spider-Man movies, I thought they were the two best superhero movies of all time. However, there is a lot of reports going around that Sam Raimi, Kirsten Dunst and the man himself Tobey Maguire are not very optimistic for doing another after Spider-Man 3, thus there is a very real possibility that this will be the last installment. That's fine, all good things must come to an end, however now that it's pretty much a given that the villain in the next movie will be The return of the Green Goblin, I think this might bring up some problems.

On one hand, I feel that given the popularity and the importance of the Green Goblin to Spider-Man's life, there really is no better way to send the franchise off then by having Spidey square off against Gobbie one last time. On the other hand however, I feel that if this is the last installment, it might be bad for the movie because it would be revisiting familiar territory, thus it might turn some people off with the "been there done that" attittude. The popular trend in most sequels is that it tries something that the first one didnt have, thus renewing the experience of discovery people get when they watch something. Spider Man 2 did this well, which is why it's every bit as good as the original.

If it isn't the last movie then my worries would be erased because I know then that the franchise wouldn't end in redundancy as so many trilogies have in the past. In my opinion, even despite the fact that the talents of Sam Raimi, Kirsten Dunst and Tobey Maguire cannot be replaced, I think that because both actors are fairly young looking people, that Different actors can be found that look vaguely familiar to them, but are older looking people. Anyone who has read the comic knows that Peter Parker's career as spiderman stretched from his teen years all the way to his early thirties, so I think in a sense its good thing that Tobey and Kirsten look so young, that way if they decide to do 4, they can still get actors that look like older versions of the two, thus easing the transition between the new actors and the old actors. Because of that, I feel there is still hope for the franchise beyond Spider-Man 3. Im also sure that there are many talented directors out there that would love to take a crack at spider man. There is still so much drama in Spidey's life that hasnt been covered. His battles with Electro, Puma, The Lizard, Mysterio, Rhyno, Cameleon, Venom, Carnage and the cloning saga he had with the Jackal, so as long as they can always excite the fans with something new, I doubt the series will ever grow stale and start sucking like the Batman movies did, IMO the first two spidey flicks are already better then the first two Batman movies.

Oh well, just some thoughts from me.

yeah, i was disapointed that Conners didn't play a bigger role. But the next one won't be been there, done that. Harry knows Peter is Spidey, and he also klnows that he loves MJ more than anyone alive.

^ I hope they redesing Gobbies costume like they did in the comics. Harry added a ripped cloak/jacket thing over the costume and redesigned the mask. At the very least I want him to have the cloak. Ill see if I can find pics.

I'd like to see two villains for the next movie. Green Goblin and maybe someone like The Lizard.

DLX
07-01-2004, 07:06 AM
^I wouldn't.

One villain is enough for me. They did that and Batman and they completely fucked everything up. Maybe with the more minor villains like Rhyno and Cameleon. The only double villain movie there ever will be is the one with Venom, because with Venom there always is carnage.

Then your wrong. Harry becomes the second Green Goblin. Roderick Kingsley and Later Jason Mecendale Jr. both shared the mantle of the Hobgoblin.

Yeah I was going to ask about that. What exactly is the difference between the two goblins? I never read the comic books. But I have to say: I just saw the second movie, and it blew the first one away. I didn't really dig the Green Goblin. I'm pretty upset that they're bringing him back honestly.

The Hob goblin was a demon, and then later was taken up by a mercenary. Norman and Harry were both the Green Goblin. Also, no Brock should not play Venom. They should get someone else. Also, they fucked up in this movie. What they should have done was have Jameson's son coming back from Space and accidentally bring the symbioite. Keep Dr Ock as the villian. Put Eddy Brock in the movie so as to set up everything. Then have Spider man beat up Dr Ock with the aid of the symbiote and so forth

Wrong, Roderick Kingsley was a mercenary who stumbled upon some of the Norman's otherhidden bases and eventually picked up his costume. He later dissapeared and Jason Mecendale Jr. found kingsley's gear. The demon wasn't the hobgoblin, the demon was the Demo Goblin, who was once became part of Mecendale during a demon invasion, but Mecendale never started out as a demon or ever was one. For god sakes learn about it before you say stuff, geez.

Also you give no reason for Brock not playing Venom, when its obvious he would be perfect. We don't know how well he can act, but most wrestlers could technically act if they tried since wrestling does involve acting, (true he doesn't wrestle anymore but still)

Im not gonna even respond to the last part of your statement since it's incorrect in so many ways. I will say this though, in regards to your suggestion....NO.

The way I see it the next film should have Spidey fight Green Goblin again. This would wrap up the whole "Harry Wants To Kill Spidey" thing. However, to keep it new, the Green Goblin should enlist the help of one of the stupider (intelligence wise) villains - Scorpion or Rhino - to do some of his dirty work. This way we see something new without fucking with the story too much.

Have the symbiote suit worked into it - ya know, Spidey is beat, finds the symbiote, wins.

Throughout, have Eddie Brock try to discredit Spiderman, eventually leading to him getting fired at the end.

Then in the fourth film, the scene is set for Venom and Carnage. Hoo hoo baby!

I actually would really like to see Smithey and the Spider Slayers. According to my sources, they are planning to make at least 7 Spider-Man movies, so they will be switching actors. I think switching actors can be sold well as long as they make it clear that the characters have gotten older.

Did anyone notice that when the astronaut guy jumped from the dock to the boat, when he was running to get MJ, it was almost a superhuman leap across that gap. And the people following him just stopped and looked at him, almost dumbfounded. It happened fast, but I was watching, because doesnt the astronaut bring venom to Earth, or something to that effect?

I noticed that as well but they didn't really emphasize that moment. If it were important I think they might make a note of it a bit more.

On the other hand, John Jameson is now gonna be pissed at Peter. Is it possible we will see John take on the role of Venom, rather than Eddie Brock? Doubtful...

John Jameson is always pissed off, i cant see them using Venom either, it'd be good to see Scorpion because they could make good costume for him

J. Jonah Jameson (JJJ) is the editor of the Daily Bugle, a major newspaper in New York City. He has never liked Spider-Man, and often writes editorials about Spider-Man's danger to the citizens of New York City, despite the fact that Spidey has saved him and his son several times. JJJ often acts like a grouchy old man, but he really likes the people who work for the Bugle. For example, although he complains about Peter Parker, he gave him a job as a full-time photographer, until cutbacks forced Peter to go back to being a freelance photographer, and he paid Peter's lawyer when he was arrested during the Clone Saga.

JJJ's son, John Jameson, was an astronaut and then worked at Ravencroft, an insane asylum where criminally insane inmates were held. He's also known as Man-Wolf.

I thought the same thing, but I think that as long as Sam Raimi is on the helm, he won't allow that kind of drastic change to the original stories.

Venom and Carnage are cool, but I mean everyone is expecting them to be there, so it wouldn't be much of a surprise. Although i would want to see them, it would be cool to also see Sandman, or Electro, or Shocker, some people like that would be nice. Also, is it just me or would it be pretty cool if they brought in the Fantastic Four or the X-men, i mean they all live in New York and they both exist in the same Universe.

How they are going to do this i don't know but that is what they get paid the big bucks to find out

one question, did they even comfirm the production of spider-man 3. I haven't read it anywhere, i know that the ending of spider-man2 gives it away, but until there is a confirmation we shouldn't really get our hopes up. Plus, if there would be spider-man 3, i would love to see the new green goblin fight spidy. It would be much interesting than the first movie, because now they know who eachone is, so there would be much more psychology in the fights than there was in the first movie.

what some of you people dont understand is the boundary's between cartoon and film...
Venom
Carnage
would be hard to make good and...
Shocker
Electro
are minor characters BUT
Scorpion would look good and have a good storyline without going too farfetched...
they can't have too many people with "Special Powers" or people dont like it

True so far the story hasn't been too farfetched; I mean getting your DNA fused with a mutant spider is perfectly logical.

but having your bosses son to go into space and bring an alien back would be perfectly believable right?
