Ok so lets try and start a league. We need 8 players (reliable) that want to be in the custom league.
Give Gamertag , real name and Team Choice, if it's already been picked, tough shit.
GamerTag: envisage
Real Name: Tavis
Team Choice (draft): SeaHawks
Team CHoice (current rosters): Patriots Or Minnesota (up for debate)
I am hoping we are having a draft too, so no set teams, pick not based on current team rosters. if this is a problem, let me know.

I'm not sure, but I'll put up my info anyway...

I'm in, a fantasy draft would be awesome. I never liked doing it against the computer but it would be pretty cool to do with other users.
Gamertag: Shayde52

I don't have a clue about drafts...someone care to explain?
Shayde

If I'm thinking what he is thinking, everyone starts out with a team with no players on it, and we just have a draft for every player in the NFL.

Oh, and I sent you a friend request Shayde. Cause your cool like that.

I haven't been on Xbox live in a loooooong time. I'll add you Ix. Anyone up for a game tonight?

I'm liking the game so far. I played about half a game*. The animations are awesome.
Also, I created a mock league just to see what all the options are and stuff. Need 8 people though, so league name: NinNow Pass: nin
Also, if we get about 10 people from this forum, at another forum there are atleast 6 people interested in joining a league. We could have 16 teams instead of 8.
*My Xbox fucking got a disc error on a BRAND NEW GAME...this pisses me off, I need a new drive.

Team Choice: Bengals with Draft - Mike, you fucker! (if Mike does not come to his senses, I would like to choose the Titans)
Team Choice: Bengals without draft
Can we wait a few weeks though? People need ot learn the game. I'm not getting it till next week.
Dorbin
07-22-2004, 07:51 AM
Well, if you guys waited a few weeks, I could be in. Problem is, the senior citizens who run my household (i.e. parents) have 56k, and hence I have been unable to get Xbox Live. However, I move into my dorm at Carolina on the 21st, where I can theoretically set up Live that day...and I'd certainly have the game by then. BTW, pimp connection at the college, crazy fast.
If thats too long for you guys to wait, its okay, I understand. No prob. I'll probably suck anywa. :)
BTW, just curious, I also have ESPN College Hoops 2K4, Top Spin, and of course I'll have Crimson Skies as well. Planning on getting Pandora Tomorrow eventually as well. You guys play any of those? I know Ixion is all about some PT.
Kevin
07-22-2004, 03:29 PM
I have PT, but I don't play it. If I'm on Live, it's with Rainbow Six 3.
Dorbin

Okay, now I'm just being ridiculous.

Is PGR2 worth it? I'm contemplating getting it.
Oh and I should have this game by tomorrow.

Anyways on topic:
When are we planning on starting this up?
Shayde
07-23-2004, 05:24 AM
I'm agreeing with the waiting stuff.
I need to get used to this game some more.
I say about a week, that should give everyone some time. Also, we gotta vote on how many days there should be in between games.
Also, if you guys want, there is probably 5 or 6 guys at another board that would probably be interested in joining a league, we could probably get 16 instead of 8.

Well, if you start in a week, I'm out, cause I won't have Live till the 21st...was gonna pick the Panthers too I guess. Used to like the Packers, but gotta give the home state some lovin...
Anyway, got the game today, played a game or so, and am lovin it. Gonna practice via some Franchise mode. Anyway, seeing as I am probably out of the league, I wouldn't mind some single games of course. Don't have to worry about schedules then either.

Well if we started one in about a week. And we did a second one, it would probably end around the 21st to the end of the month. So you could probably get in on that one.
Anyways, the online leagues are one of the main reasons I bought this. The idea of it just rocks.

After actually being able to play a game (I caved in and bought an Xbox)...this game fucking rocks.
Heres a mini-review some one wrote on another forum:
I picked up the game yesterday, and it is the best football game currently on the market. Can ESPN topple Madden? Nah, it's like your favorite Mom and Pop store going somewhat commercial, but still having to compete with Wal*Mart. The gameplay is the best I've played, and I've experienced all of the Madden games. Yeah, I used my store credit to prepay for Madden 2005 Aniv. Edition, but I don't know how much time I'll spend with that game, especially if it's as weak as last year. My all-time favorite football game has probably been NCAA 2004, so I'll need more time to see how this holds up. Some of the highlights:
1. Presentation: ESPN was good at this last year, but the gameplay was weak. This year is different, as the running is much, much better, with proper movement (No ridiculous Mario like circle spin, the spins and shifting have momentum) and everything from jukes, to shoulder blocks. Staying on track, the game feels as if you are watching an ESPN Sunday night football broadcast. The stats, overlays, halftime show (With plenty of highlights), postgame, Gamecast, etc. is incredible, and really extends the life of the game, as every contest feels like a whole new ball game.
2. Gameplay: It took me about two games, and the training to really grasp the gameplay. The passing wasn't easy at first (And still isn't a cakewalk), but now I can complete a realistic amount of passes with success. The running is incredible. This alone just blows Madden out of the water. You can't have a QB like Bledsoe or Brad Johnson run like a headless chicken in the pocket, while waiting for someone to get open, only to lauch a running pass while dodging a potential sack. The QB movement affects passing. Throwing while backpeddling, or while scrambling effects the outcome of the pass. Players like Vick or McNair can stay a little more accurate while on the move, but Bledsoe plays catch with the defense when he throws while running around. On that note, gone is the twenty step dropback, where you can run around the pocket, and launch a forty yard TD bomb. If you try that, you'll underthrow the receiver (Badly, I might add), while placing yourself in danger of having the ball intercepted.
I only rented last years ESPN game, because it wasn't that good, in regards to the gameplay. One huge reason was the tackle breaking. You would see Ricky Williams and Priest Holmes bust out of eight tackles, which is a joke. This has been corrected, so power runners like Ricky, or Jamal Lewis, can break a few tackles, but nothing that cheapens the gameplay.
The defense is great as well, and on average, I have games that are very realistic (Playing with eight minute quarters), with scores that usually don't go over thirty (Especially since I was playing as Buffalo, who has an incredible defense, but an aging Bledsoe at QB. Hell, some games were in the low teens). The default level of the game (Pro setting) is fairly easy once you grasp the game, but All-Pro level is a perfect mix of realism, so unlike past Madden's, you won't just see the computer become all powerful as the difficulity increases.
3. Extras: There are plenty, from the absurd 'Crib' feature (Which is better than collecting Madden cards, but still is somewhat pointless, aside from a couple entertaining games, like Air Hockey and Darts) to the ESPN25, to the historic teams, and the amazing VIP feature, which Madden hopefully rips off for next years game, as it is damn entertaining to go againt 'yourself' or your friends, when they are not around. Playing against yourself can exploit some of your flaws, especially if you are big in playing online.
Now, I'm not knocking Madden, and I find it to be a joke that one game can be good, while the other is trash. Aside from being child like and immature, it's just a foolish thing to say, especially if you've never played the current game. This brings me to my next point: Madden 2005 isn't out yet, so I can't say whatever it will be a better game. Madden has been hyping up the improved defense, which is a good thing, since it killed last years game. The running game is also improved, and Vick has been toned down, all of which are okay in my book. However, from what I've played, EA really needs to step up, and competition is good. Madden 2004 was a joke, with the arcade like play, and lack of defense sucking the life out of the game quickly. NCAA 2004 was a far better game, and EA has been putting out better college games for a few years now. Hell, the lack of a college game is the only real flaw in ESPN football, and although you can edit the prospects, it's not the same as importing the draft picks from the college game (Especially if you have the rosters named).
All in all, it's well worth the price of Madden, and hopefully the 'loss-leader' attempt, draws in new fans, because this game is very strong, and worthy of being a better football game than Madden. Hell, I got the game because I had store credit left from prebuying the new Madden game, and since I don't play many videogames, I decided to use the remaining balance on the new ESPN game, if only to hold me over until Madden. Well, it's doing it's job, and then some. I'm glad I picked the game up, and for twenty dollars, you can't lose. It's that simple...
Must..go..play..

I've played a few franchise games now (unfortunately deleting one, having to replay it, and now deleting my win against the Broncos as well, which I will have to redo - go figure, I'm a douche), and I've been winning now. So long as I can beat the Eagles on Pro mode, which are certainly a tough enough team, I'll crank the game up to the considerably more difficult and realistic All-Pro mode. I didn't even know there was a "Legend" difficulty, so that should be crazy - and of course there is the custom option as well, which is great.
This game rocks. r33hash, give the controls some more time - you may just be too hooked on Madden, thats all. I'm out there jukin' like a madman, and it all feels VERY responsive. Oh, and Ixion, I lost my first game too, pretty badly, so give it some time, and it'll come. Trust me, I am NOT a good football player by nature. Shayde- Congrats on the Xbox, and enjoy the game!

Well, simmed the game that I accidentally deleted yesterday on my Franchise (against Denver) and managed to win by 1 - a lot less than I won when I actually played through it the first time, but a win nonetheless. I moved on to the Eagles, who had a 91 ranking, the same as mine, so I thought it would be a good way of making a decisive decision on whether to move to All-Pro or not. Well, after a 49-3 win (it shoulda been a shutout, but whatever), I can say I'm now gonna crank up the difficulty for sure. We'll see how well I do now, lol.

Hm.
Dorbin
07-26-2004, 02:44 AM
Can't say I suck at one more than the other. I do a lot more passing plays, but thats only cause I like to get mad yardage. That may change though, as I am about to play my first All-Pro game and INT's will be haunting me, I'm sure...
I've had no problem with running at all, but that was on Pro. I've only done a couple QB sneaks...too risky!

07-26-2004, 04:17 AM
I lost to the Chargers on All-Pro. What the hell.
By three, although it sucks, cause I destroyed them statistically. At the end of the half, I had about 150 yards passing and 60 yards rushing, or something like that, and the Chargers had about 15 passing and 8 rushing. They just had a lucky redzone INT or two, and they ended up picking it up in the second half. Bastards; they didn't deserve to win. They'll only ranked 78 too, so I officially suck again.
Shayde
07-26-2004, 04:19 AM

Finally won my first game on All-Pro, 14-13 against the....Chargers. Was still tough though, I think I had 5 turnovers. After getting pissed so many times, I marked like a little school girl when my 40 yard pass connected with Keyshawn at 00:00. It pwned.

I took the loss to the Chargers in Franchise like a man, and kept it on my record, and have moved on to the Seahawks - who are unfortunately ranked at 88. Might watch that defensive movie tutorial, seeing as I have watched the offensive one. I'll probably try the Seahawks tonight, but if I lose concentration and I start losing I won't count it, seeing as it's getting late here, hehe.

Just finally won my first All-Pro game, against the Seahawks, who are at least decent with a ranking of 88. I unfortunately missed out on a touchdown and a field goal I should have had at the end of the first half, but I was still ahead; however, the Seahawks came out tough and pulled off a nasty pass play that tied the game at 21. Then, the shut down my offense twice in a row, so I was quite worried to say the least. However, I found a route with my WR Mushin Muhammed that Seattle had a terrible time covering, and with a little luck, managed to win 41-21. Just was watching Sportscenter, and 2 of the 4 primetime players for the week were my dudes; Jack Delhomme and Mushin Muhammed. Muhammed had like 20 or so receptions for about 454 yards, and Delhomme had 519 yards passing for the day. Not too shabby at all!

Hey you guys I just got the game as well. I am having some problems with it, basically them being.............I FU**ING SUCK! I can't control the offense or defense and it is pissing me off. How do you sprint on offense and defense? And why does the ref keep saying Neutral Zone Infraction?!
Shayde
07-30-2004, 01:37 AM
Keep tapping A (or X if you have PS2) and neutral zone infraction means your offsides...
Dorbin
07-30-2004, 02:29 AM
If even the tip of your helmet is encroaching upon the blue scrimmage line, it is a neutral zone infraction.
Oh, and for information on offense and defense, you can read the manual of course, OR you can go to the main menu, go to Extras, and then just the Offensive and Defensive training videos. Those should really help you. Good luck!
BTW, my WR for Carolina (Proehl I believe) broke Jerry Rice's season record for receiving yards, and I only started using him after Muhammad got hurt just before midseason. Lol. Oh, and my Panthers are leading our division (All-Pro difficulty). Not bad for me...

07-30-2004, 05:07 PM
What do you mean when you say there is no indication?Like in Madden the open receiver will blink to let you know he is open, in ESPN NFL 2K5, there is nothing to tell me he is open. I mean I can see if he is open, but by the time the ball gets to him it is either knocked down, he doesn't catch it, or he is too far away from where the ball landed. Its so FREAKING ANNOYING  I never have sucked at a football game as much as I have with this one. I can hardly do passing plays to get first downs.
Dorbin
07-30-2004, 07:52 PM
Oh, I see...I'm not really that intimately familiar with Madden, so thats why I didn't understand you. Yeah, ESPN doesn't have that, thats just a decision on the part of Visual Concepts, the developers. I guess they didn't want to make it that easy, and wanted it to be more like real football in that respect. I no longer have any problems passing (well, sometimes there are dropped passes, or INT's, but ya know), although I am a little repetitive, hehe - a find a trio of passing plays that I like, and I stick with 'em for a while. I'm playing on All-Pro though.
If it's too tough for you, make sure it's on default, the Pro difficulty level. Or, turn it down to rookie for a while if necessary - then things get really easy.
r33hash

This is where practice comes into play. The more you play the game, the more comfortable you get with the passing, and the better you get at judging when and how hard to throw.

Ixion, you should play! :-P You just have to get used to the game and its gameplay style.
Maybe I'll try bringing it once I get live (end of August). :) Unfortunately, despite winning the All-Pro Super Bowl, my pass plays are as repetitive as a bitch (er, if bitches are repetitive). I have a small handful that work well and I use them the whole time, so I'm probably not really that good. Gotta diversify for Online games, hehe.

mcnabb got injured, then 3 of my CB's got injured
i was playing fine with my backup, he had a 158 rating in the first half, then all of a sudden HE THREW 20 incomplete pases in a row.
20!
and ricky williams ran for 5 yards.
WHAT THE FUCK
running is too difficult in this game

Running is too easy if you ask me, on Pro I ran 70 yards for a TD.

I got 70 yards off of a run play (about 70, not sure) on All-Pro in the Playoffs.

Yeah, I hear there is a big problem with that, and they are trying to fix it - did you see their open letter (Visual Concepts') to the community? I think by August 1st they were going to patch, and for Xbox users there would be an additional fix on August 6th. Maybe they can fix it all up then?
And I'm sorry Tavis, even if the game had no Live mode at all (*cough* like Madden last year *cough*), the game should at least still be worth 20 BUCKS, even to you. Hell, they've charged 50 bucks in the past for games like Gameday, for the love of God...

tru, but this is why you DON'T release games before they are done!

^ I suppose that is a fair point. They may have known about the errors, but then again, they may have honestly not predicted the server problems for some reason. Otherwise, I would have thought they would have held the game back, seeing as they still had a couple weeks to tinker with the game and still get it out before Madden.
Oh well. I'm sorry I'm always getting irritated about your view of the game; after all, its only your opinion that counts, I suppose. I'm sure you'll love Madden this year, which is cool. I only ask that you keep your mind open towards the ESPN franchise in the coming years, particularly if they remain at that attractive 20 dollar price-point. :)

^ Fair enough. Most of its faults don't bother me, but hey, I am a Sega fan after all. ;)

The online play does suck right now though. We got booted twice in a row, right around halftime. It was insanely frustrating.

Can't you guys just take your ethernet cable and plug it right into the jack on the back of the Xbox, or am I just being stupid? lol
Or are you just being fancy and making it so you don't have to switch out wires between your PC and Xbox? I know in my dorm room they'll be nearly side by side, so its not a problem for me. I'm guessing switching your cable out would be too much of a hassle in your case(s)?

Just get a 100' cord and run it into whatever room your Xbox is in.

EVERY SINGLE DEFENDER IS QUICKER THAN McNABB in this game, what the fuck. I have played the eagles 4 times and SOMETHING always happens, i shitted on the packers in my custom league and they were a rating of 94, i have a 85 rating. I play the fucking eagles and they shit on me, they have a rating of 80.
QB RUNNING, i am WIDE FUCKING OPEN behind the blockers, I run the right and the guy from the other side of the field gets to me before I get to the 1st down marker, 10 yards vs 50! fuck this game, I am stickin with madden
