Halo 3 Will Hit 10 Million Copies Sold Next Week

For who don’t know this game, Halo 3 is a first-person shooter video game developed by Bungie exclusively for the Xbox 360. When the game was released on September 25, 2007 it grossed US$300 million in its first week.


According to VGchartz.com, Halo 3 sold 28k copies Last week and the total sales for the game at this point is 9.98 million, so it is guaranteed that Halo 3 will hit 10 million copies sold next week.


Halo 3 is the best selling HD exclusive game this generation. I wonder how many copies Halo 3:ODST will sell in its first week when it will hit retail stores next month.

I like COD4 but i'm a Halo guy, I find the multi-player experience far more varied and interesting than COD4. SP I prefer COD all the way.

I wonder if the expansion will kill Halo3 sales off since ODST includes all the Halo3 m-player content (ie all DLC)

edit: I had a feeling it would be WiiSports, but that totally doesnt count. Mario Bros. is the winner! Well actually, I wasn't alive then, but I believe that was bundled with the NES too... Hmm but you could buy it stand alone so maybe it does count.

Either way, Nintendo is the real winner the top 12 best selling games ever being exclusive to Nintendo consoles. In fact only two games in the top 20 werent on Nintendo consoles. They must be so much richer than anyone suspects.

Welcome to the exclusive 10m club. Few games have pulled off this status on one console and with very little bundling.



SuperLuigiBros, a huge majority of Super Mario Bros sales were bundles so it's in a similar boat as Wii Sports. The difference is that Wii Sports hasn't been replace as the pack in game yet though I suspect Wii Sports Resort may do just that at some point. Also, Wii Sports has sold over 3.6 million in Japan where the game is not bundled.

Just want to point out that only 9 of the games above Halo 3 were not made by Nintendo and close to half of the games above Halo 3 were bundled not as a "limited time" type deal but a year+ times, in the case of much of the NES, Wii Sports, and GB titles probably for years. Also, many of these systems (PC included) were out for much longer as well.

It also did this in less than two years. World of Warcraft by comparison has only sold 2 million more than Halo 3. A few other crazy things about it:

-Outsold every other game franchise other than stuff made by Nintendo, WoW, Gran Turismo, The Sims, Warcraft, and GTA

-roughly 32% of 360 owners have bought the game new compared to Halo 2 which sold to about 38% of original Xbox owners (less original Xbox out there as well)

-The game is the 35th best selling game of all time according to VG Chartz, it will likely be the 32nd best selling by the end of the year.

-The next best selling 360 game is 50th of all time, CoD4 with nearly 8 million

-The best selling PS3 game of all time is Gran Theft Auto IV with about 6 million sold (and #79 on the list)

With that note, some analyst are projecting that Halo 3: ODST will sell 2 million it's first week, and 3 million total this year.
