View Full Version : How Does Duckhunt work?

I have been pondering this for a while.
All I know so far is that when you shoot, the screen turns black, and if the duck is in the white square, it dies. Something like that. But how does it know where you shoot? Is there "gyro" things in the gun that can tell what direction it is being aimed? But i think that is false, because i think i remember that you could cover your hand over the gun and it wouldnt work. I am not for sure about that though. Anyone know? I want to look smart the next time it comes up.

the gun "senses" the color on the screen.

Yeah, basically the gun has a little sensor in the end and it takes a picture of the entire screen and it sees where the gun is pointed and, if it sees the duck, then it counts a hit.

This was a good question, though. I don't think too many gamers knew how it worked, and I think most of them thought that it shoots some sort of a lazer.

your all wrong, I forgot were I read this but here it goes. The TV acts as a mirror to the "laser" the light gun shoots out. You pull the trigger light exit the gun and hits the tv, depnding if you hit the color of the duck or not, the light goes back to the gun registering a hit or miss. The TV does very little work, all the sensors are in the gun.
Remember in Duck Hunt when you shoot the gun how the duck turns white for a split second? Thats the color the light gun is looking for

But Ryan was entirely right. According to the article, the gun detects whether it is pointing at black or white. Ryan's explaination was that it "senses" the color of the screen, which is basically what it does when it detects the difference between white and black.

So if you hold a white piece of plastic over the gun lens, can you cheat?

I was just wondering about that, last night. I might want to try it, just to see if it would work, but I wouldn't do something like that when actually playing because that's no fun.

I seriously doubt it. As neat as it might be to bring back the old gun idea, it isn't revolutionary so I doubt that would have anything to do with the "Revolution". It might be a neat addition, though, depending on what kind of idea they plan on going with for the overall console.

I've never heard of the idea, and I seriously doubt that we ever will. Honestly, the game would be too easy, save maybe for drunks that are so trashed that they can't even remember their names, let alone do anything half-way coordinated. A similar type of concept but being more up to date and offering more of a challenge, though, might work a bit better, but I'm not sure what form such a game could take.

I guarentee you that that idea will be used in the Wario Ware for DS.

I didn't agree to it having Duckhunt, but perhaps something along the concepts previously addressed wherein you shoot by touching the screen.

i know how it works. When you shoot the gun, the screen turns black for a split second. The only part that doesn't, is the duck. when you shoot the gun, a very fast white light comes out. It only reacts when it hits more white.
