WHY RPGs?
http://www.rpgdreamer.com/rpgworld/skies/skies-7.jpg
I have been a gamer for many many years now, yet I cant seem to hold an interested in RPGs. I pretty much play all the other genres of gaming, but when it comes to turn-based RPGs, I can't seem to get used to the "turn-based" gaming that is offered. :twitch:
Yeah I do like the graphics offered in games such as FF and other comparable games, but the RPGs that have really grabbed and managed to hold my attention are "action RPGs" likeas the Zelda franchise.
so please let me know why you like RPGS..and list your favorite RPGs of all time as well.

Well, that's just you...I believe RPG= level up...that's how I feel, if you can get stronger its a rpg...I don't consider Zelda a true rpg. I think a rpg should also allow the person your playing with be who you want him to be, or shaped by his backstory...you'll probably like tales though, because it's fully realtime...

I admit the engine of turn-based is not bad but I feel the game around that engine really needs to be fantastic. I think Chrono Trigger does the best job of that. Other than that I want something with more direct control. Baldur's Gate games, Neverwinter Nights, Tales of Phantasia, etc all feed my hunger to really get a hold of that powerful sword rather than just telling him to do it before any action begins. With tabletop and games back then turn-based is just a necessity but with video games there is more freedom in the world and they should take it.
Other than fighting theres a lot of other things I want to do in an RPG.
-Role Play
-Create my own character
-Adventure and find new things
-Fight evil monsters
-Wield powerful weapons
-Cast spells
-Earn money and buy stuff
-Work in groups with other members
-Experience the storyline
-Save hot babes
-Meet your equal in battle
-Fight wars
-etc

I like RPG's because of the plots, mostly. And the character development, and leveling up.
My favorite is Suikoden/Suikoden 2.

KotOR rocks. Morrowind is good, and Fable will rock.
You just gotta get into it...the pokemon games on gameboy were considered RPGs. Did you like those?
I find turn-based RPGs to be extremely frustrating and annoying. I hate running into random battles. I prefer Tales of Symphonia style gameplay, and I like how you can see the enemies walking on the screen. It makes things so much easier.

I've never been a big fan of rpgs, I don't know why but they have never been able to hold my attention long enough. The only rpg that I've really liked is golden sun.

I like RPGs, but i've actually only played a few of them, and I've never fully plaed a Final Fantasy game, only one demo levelt hat I got when I was cursed with a PlayStation for Christmas once upon a time, and one of the games had FF8 demo, and I though it was very fun.
Anyway, my favorite two are Super Mario RPG for SNES, and my newly founded Tales of Symphonia, one action and one turn-based. One factor I certainly prefer is being able to see your enemies, which i think all RPGs should employ, and I love the plots, characters, strategy outside of battle, but as for which style I prefer, I'm not sure. I think you have more control in turn-based, but I think that action is actually a little more fun, and you do have a fair amount of control of the rest of your party, but I would like a little more control then something like Symphonia offers.

I do enjoy RPGs, especially the older ones. For example:
Earthbound
Tales of Phantasia
Chrono Trigger
Final Fantasy 6
Final Fantasy 5
Final Fantasy 4
Lufia
Lufia 2: Rise of the Sinistrals
Secret of Mana
Secret of Mana 2(Seiken Densetsu 3)
Secret of Evermore
Phantasy Star 4
Phantasy Star 2
Shining Force
Shining Force 2
Robotrek
Suikoden
Suikoden 2
Many more that I cannot remember...
One thing I have noticed is that I don't enjoy the newer RPGs quite as much (that's not to say that I hate new or 3D games, just that the RPGs don't entertain me as much).

Nailed it! I think RPGs really let you get your money worth. They can sometimes have great replay value depending.
Well turn based can be played a few ways in terms of RPG. You can either have the usual FF style were each person takes a turn to attack, the Chrono Trigger style were you have cool down before you can attack again, or the Tactics Ogre/FF:T style were you move your characters and attack and what not but still take turns. You should try the later because it gives you the most interaction with you and your part. Tales is good but you can only control one person at a time with this you control the whole team and unlike with usual RPG's, you can be much weaker then your opponent but still win, just like other games which deal more to skill and stratagey, kind of like a chess game. Anywho, that my take on turn based RPG's and like i said i think that you would like RPG's in the vein of Tactics Ogre the most because it offers, at least IMO, the most user interaction.
My Favorite turn based RPG's would be:
Chrono Trigger
Tactics Ogre: The Knight of Lodis
Diablo 2
I like these because they still retain the great elements in other RPG's but have more user interaction then usual, and, best of all, they are 2D! (Diablo is 2D right?) :D

Phantasy Star Online, Grandia 2, and Tales of Symphonia are not only great RPG's but might be some of the greatest games of all time.

I cant live without turn based RPG's. I was too young to enjoy Final Fantasy III and Chrono Trigger on my snes. But by the time Final Fantasy 7 came out, I was older and able to understand them.
You either love rpgs or hate them. Once you finish one I garentee you will start another
