Ok I'm sick of Gamecube VS Xbox debates. It seems most of NNow embraces the xbox over the PS2. Since both systems have the same target audiance and both system appeal to more main stream gamers then the gamecube.

I'll take a PS2 over an xbox and here is why. As much as I dislike Sony the PS2 have a great library of games, belive it or not. I hear over and over from Nintendo fans say that graphics do not make the game, yet they bash the PS2 for its lack of power. PS2 has a HUGE library of greatest hit games for $20 that the Xbox does have, but not nearly as many games. AAA games like GTAIII, Devil May cry, gran Turism 3, MGS2, Virtual Fighter 4, Kingdom Harts, Sly Cooper, FFX, Ratchet and Clank and many others. Sony's online plan is nowere near as good as xbox live but it has one big thing going for it. Its Free And free is always good.

I think that Microsoft will help the industry in the long run. They seem to have better sense of what gamers want then sony. Right now sony has the games and thats what its all about.

Somehow I know this thread will turn into a flame war. Ah well.

Each system is tailored for different types of people. I like anime and art. I choose PS2 because of RPG's, DDR, and the huge library of games. It also has more adult-oriented games. The library has it's share of perfect 10 games too. I don't plan on taking PS2 online but I know that if I want to, it will be free. 3rd party support is also a huge plus.

Both the Xbox and PS2 are similar in games. However, I feel more quality games have appeared on the PS2 than Xbox and I like the exclusives more. Halo is the only thing that comes to mind when thinking of Xbox. They both also play DVDs (which is a plus) but with Xbox you need to buy a $30 remote to enable it. You also can't play burned DVDs on Xbox. Importing is another issue - you can mod your PS2 much easier or add a fliptop to it.

For the next generation of systems I will be getting a PS3 and Xbox 2. Maybe the Revolution. I'll have to see how it turns out. Xbox 2 for innovation (online playing) and PS3 for exclusives, good 3rd party games, and DDR. And next time around, I don't think any of the systems will have graphical disadvantages.

's hard to pick which system is better. Gamecube has the well known franchises and it is mostly marketed to the loyal Nintendo fans, Xbox offers both; stuff for the hardcore gamer and the casual gamer, and PS2 has most casual gamer audiance but they have the legions of Japanese RPG fans who love it dearly.

The PS2 lacks in power and also is plagued with cheap components and bad hardware planning. But, the PS2 has the largest library of games to offer. It's got the largest selection of budget priced games and has free online play depending upon the devolper and publisher.

While the Xbox has the best online offering and it has harddrive. Both which make a big difference. The Xbox doesnt have a weak line-up of games either, but it does have it's bad spots just like any console. The Xbox is also the most powerful...and it has the most awesome line-up of FPS games.

How can you really debate on this...you cant. The final verdict for me is that both the Xbox and PS2 offer good and bad. The PS2 is a RPG fans dream and the Xbox is a FPS fans dream.

I'm talking systems.

XBOX-better graphics, broadband ready, and hard-drive.
DVD's are higher compatible when buying remote

PS2-Worse graphics, have to buy seperate adapter, have to buy hard drive when using hardrive games, dvd player (needs updated to support more movies)
When buying the remote the Xbox still has a far superior compatibility

That is what I based the console value for the money one.

I myself would prefer an Xbox over a PS2. Here is why:

1. Controllers- Xbox has far superior controllers then the PS2 in my opinion. The Controller S for the Xbox beats the PS2's/PS controllers by a long shot. For some reason I always feel the PS2 controllers are too blocky, and not as smooth and curvy as the GC and Xbox controllers. Also PS2 only comes with 2 controller ports, Sony tries to make money by making people by the expansion to allow 4 people to play, Xbox already comes with 4 controller ports.

Winner- Xbox

2. Online play- Xbox has a far superior online setup then the PS2. Having one gamertag for all your games is very convienient. Also despite having to pay a yearly fee to get online with Xbox, it comes with a headset and a free game (if you buy the bundle). Also Xbox online games preform much better, less lag, better framerates, etc.

Winner- Xbox

3. Games- In this category both Xbox and PS2 are at different grounds. The PS2 has a far better RPG list, while the Xbox has a far better FPS list. In the end it all depends which type of games you like more. The PS2 and Xbox both have all the same third party games, so if you are a casual gamer, it really doesn't matter which one to chose.

Winner- Tie

Overall Winner- Xbox

That is just how I feel.

I believe that the X-Box is a better quality system in pretty much every way compared to PlayStation 2, and the online is far supreme, and a lot of good games seem to be coming out on X-Box as exclusive instead of PS2. But I would get a PS2 instead simply because the games cater more to my taste (MGS, RPGs), and I don't like FPS at all really, which is X-Box's biggest genre, so PS2 wins in my book.

I perfer my Xbox, better graphics, great online play, more control ports, the only thing that pisses me off is the size..

I prefer the Xbox do to the fact that I love FPS's and the Xbox has a better selection of those. I hate rpg's and have yet to find one that holds my interest so the ps2 is just not for me.

Also Xbox's online play is far better then the ps2's, $50 a year is not that much to pay.

I having owned all three systems at one point in time, have a good shot at this.

Games:
If you're a casual, mainstream gamer, go with PS2 100%. It's got bucketloads of Sports titles, and some of it's own exclusives. Games like GTA and Gran Turismo are great games for anyone to pick up and have fun with. If you like RPG's, go with PS2. Xbox's FPS library is massive, and many of them are fantastic. It's also got a great library of exclusive games such as Halo, KotOR, Ninja Gaiden. The Xbox library is smaller, but that doesn't mean it's greatest hits library can't compare to PS2.

Winner: PS2 for sheer volume of game selection.

Online:
In my opinion, Xbox's online play owns PS2. Sure, you have to pay, but the $50 a year is well worth it. Their online libary is much better and more expansive, as PS2's is mostly limited to Sports titles. Also, with Xbox, EVERYONE has headsets, and static usernames across all games is awesome. Live aware titles, friends lists, and expansive stat tracking are awesome.

Controller:
I'm really not a huge fan of either controller. I do like the functionality of the PS2's controllers better, but I like Xbox's triggers rather than PS2's shoulder buttons. Even the Controller-S(mall) is still kinda big, but you can tell it's very durable (PS2's are also pretty durable). I would give this to Sony, if they had more than 2 controller ports.

Winner: Tie

Overall package:
Here is where Xbox takes the cake. Out of all my friends that own PS2's (all of them).. I don't think there is one who's DVD capabilities are still functional. Alot of them don't even play the games anymore (Xbox has similar problems with older Xbox's with the Thomson drives). While the DVD capabilites on Xbox do cost $30, I think it's worth it (I won't pay it simply because I don't need more DVD players) compared to PS2's DVD capabilities. Either way, I'd still rather have a real DVD player. Xbox has a built in hard-drive with seemingly endless amounts of storage. Xbox has 4 controller ports (PS2 has to pay extra for multitap), and a built-in broadband adapter. The graphics on Xbox own PS2's.

Winner: Xbox

Either way though, all three systems this generation have their own niches and appeal. They're all solid gaming systems that any gamer should appreciate. Anyone who stricly "hates" a system is just being ridiculous. There's stuff for each one that should appeal to everyone.

I currently own all three, and having played games via XBC, and Live, although I only own Halo, XBL PWNS PS2's online strategy.

But having said that, the PS2 has MANY, MANY more games, and most of those games are my favorite genre, RPG's.

PS2 is the king of this generation, slaughtering all oncomers.

I shurely like My Xbox better than my freinds PS2. I'm a big fan of FPS's and PC ports and the Xbox has the best with both of those. Even though there are a lot of Games for the PS2, 3/4 of them are crap. Plus, I dispise sony in every way possible.
