As kiddy as this game appears, it has been getting such praise. Who else is psyched about this soon to be released Square game? :)

Just about 7 days for this baby to come out. I am drooling for it... It's gonna feel great seeing all those awesome FF characters in Disney environments.
The reviews in EGM were I think al 8.5 ... not as good as I had expected.
But this game looks nice ... good enough to eat ... but of course, I wouldnt do such a thing.

Well, 8.5 is still great... Besides, I think I will take IGN's score. IGN's scores have always satisfied me. But I have a thing with FF characters... I think I'll enjoy the game more than others.

Square is Square. You can always get a good title from them. I think they should have Vivi from FFIX instead of that one chick from FFX Vivi kicks!!!

I cant tell you enough how excited I am about this game coming out! At first I FREAKED out when I heard Square and Disney were making a game together "FF and Disney?!!? that's the most retarded thing I've ever heard!!" But then I actually looked into the game and I was.. well.. kind blown away ^_^;; The new battle system for the game is simply the best in all of the FFs I've ever played.. the story-line is quite kiddy, but still really interesting and really draws you deep into the game, showing all of the characters true colors and emotions... and dont get me started on the FF characters... I'm so happy to see that my idol Sephiroth will be in it as a major Boss, and a little clone of him named Riku, who is one of the main characters. The characters are all played by the best in the buisness! First and foremost, the game's hero, Sora, will be voiced by none other than Haley Joel Osment, known for his roles in The Sixth Sense and Steven Spielberg's A.I.: Artificial Intelligence. Other such good names like Mandy Moore (who will play as Aeris) , David Gallagher from Seventh Heaven, Sean Astin (Lord of the Rings), Hayden Panettiere (Remember the Titans), Christy Romano (Even Stevens), and David Boreanaz of Angel fame. Its not known yet..at least to me, who will be playing the origional disney characters.. such as Robin Williams as The Genie... they've already spent enough money as it is on this game... so I'm not sure if their origional voices will be featured. It is also RUMORED that Lance Bass will be playing as Sephiroth...though I highly doubt this... either way, I'll still be excited to finally hear my idol speak actual words... though as many of you may know, Sephiroth did have a voice actor in the game Ehrgeiz, as well as Cloud, Tifa, Vincent, Zack, and Yuffie... but enough about that! Back to Kingdom Hearts!
My favorite character from that game (besides Sephy) would be Riku... who is really just a miniture version of Sephiroth in every aspect. The hair, eyes, and attitude throughout the entire game. I seriously cannot wait for this game to come out... The main song to it as well as the music in general is the best thing I've EVER heard come out of SquareSoft since FF7's One-Winged Angel. I seriously see no downfalls in this game other than some will think its 'kiddy' just for the fac that disney characters are in it! PLAY THE GAME! If any of you are fans of FF, you'll love this game.. I sould be getting it within a few days, I've already preordered it from the site, so once I play through the whole thing I'll give a much more detailed reveiw on it ^_^; okay, my rant is over!

For all of those who said that 8.5 given by EGM is low, you didnt read the article. The artcile and review give lots of praise to the game. Those 8.5s are alot closer to 9's. I didnt expect anything from that game, but after reading their review I'm looking forard to it.

That's not what its like at all!! I have the game! in fact I'm playing it right now! The battle system is the best thing since Legend of Zelda! Its kinda a combination of Square's FF battle system and Zelda's as well. You fight as Sora, and funny little spikey-haired boy who is thrown into another world and into an exciting adventure against the 'Heartless' who are try to destroy each world by passing through the doors and into the core of each world as well as stealing the hearts of all those within the world. Your job as the Keyblade Master is to destroy the Heartless and those working for them and locking the doors, so no more may enter. This game deffinatly is not kiddy..
-Final Fantasy-style role-playing in Disney environments
-Over a hundred Disney characters (I know it seems bad, but it isnt! take a chance and play this game!)
-Guest appearances by characters from the Final Fantasy series
-Gorgeous, animation-style graphics
-Real-time combat!
This game contains some of the best graphics and gameplay of any game on the market. It was completely developed by Squaresoft, by the creators of Final Fantasy. There are only a few camera issues. This game is not kiddy, it flows very nicely, and a good relief from the typical RPG. Characters from Final Fantasy games return, as well as all the famous Disney Characters. This title is a very imaginative and fun game, and I would recommend it to anyone with a brain!!
Amazon.com E3 Preview
"A game combining Final Fantasy-style role-playing with virtually every Disney franchise that's ever existed? It might sound like a corporate property leveraging exercise from hell, and an idea sure to alienate Final Fantasy purists, but Kingdom Hearts turns out to be a smooth and hypnotically weird merging of brands. Even if the original impetus was to make mucho bucks by capturing both Disney and FF fans, this game is a product of loving attention to detail. Developers Disney Interactive and SquareSoft haven't merely stuffed a bunch of Disney characters into Final Fantasy, but have created an innovative and accessible RPG experience with real-time (instead of the usual turn-based) combat and dazzlingly beautiful environments. A customer on Amazon.com's sister site in Japan (where the game is already a smash hit) writes, "I pity anyone who doesn't play this game." "
When Kingdom Hearts was first announced, many thought Square had finally lost it. Not only had they partnered with Disney, a company that Square has seemingly little in common with, but Square was also throwing its own creations into the mix. The game was described as Final Fantasy Meets Disney.
However, as it has many times over, Square has proven the critics wrong. Kingdom Hearts has gorgeous graphics that pushes the PS2 to its limits. Many of the Disney characters look and move as if they were ripped right from their respective cartoons. Disney has also spared no expense on voice acting, in many cases brining back a character's original actor when it came time to give the incredibly large ensemble cast voices
The game also features returning characters from Square's reknowned Final Fantasy series. Specifically, the game will feature Cloud, Aeris, Cid and Yuffie from FF7; Squall from FF8; and Tidus and Wakka from FF10. One of the most interesting scenes from Kingdom Hearts is a scene where Donald Duck and Aeris have a conversation.
Fans of the Secret of Mana will be excited to learn that the battle system is more like it than Final Fantasy. Fighting is done in real time and with little menus. Even spells can be fired off with menu-less ease by linking them to buttons on the control pad. This gives a very interesting feel since many of the spells come from the Final Fantasy series. Summoned Monsters are also used in Kingdom Hearts, but this time around they're Disney characters. Simba, Bambi, Dumbo, and Tinkerbell all come to your aid in battle.
In short, buy this game. Younger fans will enjoy the nearly limitless cast of Disney characters. Older fans and Square veterans will enjoy seeing familiar characters and the type of story that has made Square games the standard for RPGs. The story, while light-hearted at times, can also become incredibly dark. The packaged is rounded out with incredible music, not the least of which is "Light", an English version of Utada Hikaru's song "Hikari". For more info, visit Square's game site...

I'm very much enjoying this game... being a loyal Squaresoft fan, it makes me really happy to see all my favorite FF characters, weapons and magic. So far I have NO problem with any of the FF character's voices. most of theirs are how I imagined them to be as I was playing each of the games. So far I enjoy Squall's..er.. Leon's the best!
As soon as I finish this game, I'll try to give better review.. I pretty much know most about it so far.. but not everything ^_^;;

Ah ha! Today I've finally beaten the game! And I must say the ending was very satifying!! Very tear-jerking... reminds me of when I finished FFVIII.. but it also gives you clues to the sequal of this game. Yes my friends there is a sequal to this game where you star as Riku instead of Sora! I'm glad! Riku was my favorite character out of the entire game after all. Now, to give my final reveiw on this game.
If you thought a Disney RPG was an unlikely concept to begin with, consider this. Not only is Kingdom Hearts a Disney RPG, it's a huge, sprawling adventure with all the challenge and breadth of a Final Fantasy or any other top-notch Square production. The quest is long, the enemies are powerful, and there are plenty of side-quests to explore along the way.
I highly recommend to buy the strategy guide to blast through to the end of the quest, all the way to the secret fortresses of the Heartless. There are fighting tournaments, hidden items, summoned allies, 99 Dalmatians to rescue (since their parents are safe at home, still), and plenty of other odds and ends to explore while taking care of the usual business of saving the world. This game can be quite tricky if you really dont know what you're doing, but its just a suggestion.
The only problems in this game I faced were... For one thing, it's got an utterly evil camera, one that sometimes swings wildly out of control, wreaking havoc and obscuring my vision at the worst possible times. The combat also suffers from its share of woes. Yet despite these shortcomings, when I finally finished the game some 68 hours later, all I could remember is how much fun I had.
The battles were fun and very challenging! Let's get something straight here: You will die. You will die a lot. Think this is just kid's stuff? Well, think again, because you will get your ass handed to you.
But you'll also have a grand time, even in defeat, thanks to the utterly unique action/combat system. Everything is rooted in real time, but there's a catch: "Everything" includes the menu-driven commands as well. So while you're jamming on the X button to attack, tapping the O button to leap out of the way, or smacking the Square button to dodge, you also have to pull up menus without pausing the action to cast spells, call forth summons, use items, or unleash special attacks. Sounds confusing, but it works like a charm, adding lots of depth to what would otherwise be a basic hack-'n'-slash setup. Sure, it's frustrating to get whacked while you're trying to pull a Potion out of your stock, and battles do get repetitive at times, but this system gives you so many different ways to defeat your foes that you might find yourself picking fights just to try things out. Best yet, Kingdom Hearts features more thrilling boss battles per square inch than any action/RPG in recent history!
The battle system does have its share of flaws, though. My biggest gripe early on was the A.I. for Donald and Goofy. My two companions never seemed to be in the right place at the right times. They also had an annoying tendency to use up any items in their possession, depleting my precious stock of Ethers and Potions far too often. What's more, you can only fiddle with their A.I. when you're not in combat, so if you wander into a brawl without your settings optimized, you can't do a thing about it. I often wished I could pause the action and, like an officer commanding his troops, tell my two pals to try a different tack.
But notice I said, "early on," as midway through the game I finally found the perfect settings for Donald and Goofy. Even cooler, they actually seemed to learn how to fight better as time went on!
The other big problem is the camera, which sometimes drove me up the wall during combat. (It also acts up at other points, but it didn't bug me all that much.) Yet there's a serviceable solution here: Don't lock on. Since the Heartless tend to jump about, when you lock on to one of them, the camera whipsaws around as it tries to follow your foe. But if you just let yourself naturally target the nearest baddie, you'll be fine most of the time. Granted, there were still some areas where I'd have to blindly bash away at a swarm of Heartless, but during those moments I'd often focus on my health meter and just go at it like a madman. Sure, it's not the best prescription for fun, but it's still enjoyable in moderate doses.
Now, though these flaws are all very real, keep in mind that I had to consult the reviews of others to remember them.
And then, of course, there's the Final Fantasy connection. While Kingdom Hearts features less than a dozen FF cameos, they're wonderfully placed in the story and the action. The first time you enter Traverse Town, you're likely to be overcome with giddiness as you stumble into a Moogle, bump into Yuffie or espy Aerith. Square threw in tons of details that FF fans will appreciate -- but it's done in a way that won't be off-putting to anyone who hasn't played a Final Fantasy. One of my favorite examples: Leon (a.k.a. Squall) is just as moody and belligerent as ever, but he's also got a soft spot, which manifests itself in a touching moment when Yuffie asks Sora to track down the missing 99 dalmatian puppies scattered throughout the worlds. "Squall can't stop worrying about them," she says as he stands by silently moping. Awww. How sweet. But lest you think Squall's gone completely soft, wait 'til you face him in battle. And did I mention you also get to fight Cloud? And Yuffie? And even Sephiroth?! No Omni-Slash to help you now either!
After I beat the game, all I felt was an immense satisfaction. All I could think about was how much fun I had exploring the different Disney worlds, how captivated I was by the story, how lost I got in the endless array of extra options and delightful diversions.
And most of all, how much I loved the game's "final chapter" -- which was pure Final Fantasy, thanks to its maze-like dungeons and marathon of mind-blowing boss battles.
One thing's for sure: Kingdom Hearts is incredible enough to convince a doubter to eagerly enter Disney's Magical Kingdom and never look back. And once there, you'll experience the best revelation yet: it's a Square world after all.

Great review, Seraph!!
Well, back to the game then... this game seems really cool.. I've never been the biggest fan of the FF games, sadly, cause I never had the skills to master it... the only FF game I've ever played for more than an hour is FF VII.. it was brilliant!! And as you say, this game has so many excellent elements of FF and a whole new real-time battle system, I just might have to get myself a PS2 and this game!!! :)
