There may be more than one reason Namco is porting Tales of Symphonia to Playstation 2. Despite all the hype surrounding Tales of Symphonia, it only managed to come in at number 2 on the top ten games for Gamecube in the month of July with 118,507 units behind Spiderman 2. Keep in mind that many retailers reported shortages of copies, so there may still be hope for Tales to cling onto the top three next month.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

There was a huge shortage. Namco truly droppeed the ball on this one and watch them blame it on the GC itself.

So far, I've seen one copy and it unfortunately wasn't mine.

Yeah, Namco should know there games sell on cube by now...A rpg expecially, we really want rpg's...This was all Namco's fault...and most people won't buy it unless they can get it when they can...this may never really rebound...

ive had the opportunity to play tales at my friends house (brudaman). the game is tight, and needs to be ported to the xbox as well. wat i dont want to see is namco hiding behind the numbers by saying GC was at fault for less than expected sales

Sadly, they will. It is highly doubtful they will take the blame as no other company has when they failed to launch with significant enough copies available.

^well...really, I don't think Namco will comment...they didn't ship enough to begin with...and I do think it sold pass there expectations come to think of it..once it sold like hotcakes, I think they know they screwed up...

Namco just redefined "shortage" with this. My local Wal-Mart, the only store in the whole county that sells video games, still doesn't have it in, yet. I had to search out of county for it, and only ran across a handful of copies at one store out of half a dozen in two different cities that I checked. The game surely would have sold a lot more if stores actually had it, but few retailers that I visited have seen the game at all. This is entirely Namco's fault, even though GameCube will likely take the blame.

Now that's a shame. It looks really good too. I might get it.
