April 16, 2003 - In what has to be Nintendo's most vague press release to date, the company today announced that it has expanded its internal development sources by "establishing a new research and development facility in Tokyo." The new branch will develop "unique games for Nintendo hardware platforms, adding to the depth and breadth of Nintendo's first-party game library."
No further bits were announced. But Nintendo did at least state that details of the facility, including when it would officially open, would be announced "in the coming months."
Let the speculation begin.

Thank you for proving that you have absolutely no idea what R&D is.

I think it's interesting. This could mean that we could see more increadible first party games. That's enough to get my attention.

Well, putting aside the fact that you spelled "Nigel" wrong, I hope that wasn't a suggestion that he and I are one in the same. If not, then sorry, I'm tired and paranoid (like always).

I make one stupid typo in like forever and I get all jumped on.
About the "", I hadn't really thought about it, but now that you've brought it up, yeah sure, you're the same people.

Heh... here's some speculation for ya...
It MUST house an online testing facility.... I MUST.
Either that, or they're building missiles for when they conduct their hostile takeover of microsoft. Washington state is just a hop skip and jump away from Tokyo...
OR, they will constantly have 30 people in a room, sitting at a table, with machine guns mounted on the wall (for the companys saftey of course) to come up with new and exciting plans to get thrid parties more involved with the GC.
Yeah... those HAVE to be true...
All of them.

Isn't NoA located like 10 minutes away from Microsoft's HQ?

Yeah but transporting massive missiles to the US isn't easy... plus building them there would cause some suspition as well... launching them from Toyko should work... especially with the new 'stealth' missiles they're researching and developing at the facility...
DUH
:D

I heard they were pretty close (Think it was in that interview with Seamus blackly). Closer then 10 mins... I think they're pretty much right down the street.
anyone remember this? (http://www.planetgamecube.com/specials.cfm?action=profile&id=362) (look at the picture) they must of been pretty close to each other if they did that :p

I thought he looked like he just took a big, healthy crap in his pants and liked it but at the same time felt guilty about it and opted for poorly-conceiled secrecy.

Yes, but at the same time Sony is trying to draw GameCube and XBox fans, while Microsoft is trying to draw GameCube and PS2 fans......

zelda did will... Marioparty did uber well, best selling gamecube game in japan.
What were they mario sunshine, that bored me to death, however still sold well. Metroid did welll! All of these titles were there old franchises, and they sold like hot CAKES!!!
It's the new ones that suck...
Luigis mantion! and aaa....
My question is what exactly is nintendo making?
Marioparty 4 is hudson
Metroid is Retro studios
Eternal Darkness is silicon knights
Super Smash Bros Hal
Waver Racer NST
And the list goes on
only nintendo games I can think of are
Zelda (only great nintendo game)
Super Mario Sunshine (major disapointment, sales lagged)
Luigis mantion (SUCKED SUCKED SUCKED)
Animal Crossing (n64 port)
Pikimi (Sales Sucked)

Yeah but whats that go to do with Nintendo opening a new devlopment house??
Viper
04-18-2003, 05:38 AM
Hopefully another AAA franchise. The more dev teams they have, the more new franchises that can be released as well as sequals to older franchises. Updating older franchises is why we haven't seen too many new franchises lately.
{R}Ev0lution

The main Nintendo devolopment house led by Miyamoto is said too have over 1 million people (dont know if it's true)they should be able to produce new blockbuster franchises while still making sequals to their old games and if they cant i say shame shame shame Nintendo.
Viper
04-18-2003, 07:34 AM
^WTF. Someone lied to you. That would make them the largest employer on the planet. I would be very surprised if Miyamotos' team had more than 200 people.
