This is officially from sonys mail bag here it is

What battery will the PSP have and how long will it last?
The PSP will have a Li-ion Battery. Battery life was mentioned to be comparable to other high-end portable electronics, which is estimated to be anywhere from 3 to 6 hours.

hahahahahha when you watch lord of the rings you use 3 out of 6 hurs leaving you with only three hours for eitther musis or game play

Rabunis

I figure not a whole lot of movies are gonna be made into the psp disc format for this reason alone.

FastBullet
08-30-2004, 06:47 PM
yea on th last three hours of movie watching your watching loard of the ring then this is what happen (poof!!!!!!) no more movies becuase yuor psp cut of just like a gameboy does when the battery power runs out

Unless they have one of those rechargeable thingies like they did on the GBA and make it so that you have more energy in it.

Considering that IGN states that Sony responded to them with a To be announced at TGS statement.

Now they told PSP insider the same thing. I find it very interesting sights haven't announced that yet.

I really doubt it'll be much better. Movie 3 games 5 is my guess but I could always hope.

FastBullet

P.S= What is the actual date of tokyo game show?

sony should have stuck with the PDA market.

bobo_ess
08-31-2004, 07:20 PM
that battery life isn't so good for a portable, you have to be away for an outlet for a while to make it a good portable, not 3-6 hrs, im think ing like at least 10 to make really worth while.

Michael
08-31-2004, 07:26 PM
People can deal with the battery life...as long as it doesn't get annoying...becuase people hate to buy add ones, even batteries..

koten
08-31-2004, 09:23 PM
I don't see the "portability" of the PSP if it only has 3-6 hours. That is worthless on a plain trip (like to Hawaii, 17 hours, 10 of them GBA and the other 7 sleep). I really don't think many people will be happy after their machine dies out in the middle of a huge battle with the last boss of (insert some PSP RPG here).

Flaccid Acid
08-31-2004, 09:31 PM
thats not too bad. If it does turn out to be 6 full hours then thats pretty good. The gameboy advanced SP only gets 8 hours with the light on. And its aimed for casual gamers who most likly will play it like 3 hours a week.

koten
08-31-2004, 09:35 PM
GBA SP has 10 with the light on.

And you know casuals will sit for hours playing that P.O.S. madden for a week on end. I wonder how they'll like it when the battery dies halfway through a game.

Flaccid Acid
08-31-2004, 09:43 PM
You really can't put people in to catagories like that. I know some people that say they play video games a bit and their casual gamers and they usualy only play like 3-5 hours a week. True once in a while they will play for hours upon hours on end.

People I know who are casuals usualy have less the 5 games and might buy 1 or 2 at the most a year.

koten
08-31-2004, 09:51 PM
I think we might have different defintions of casuals. I see a casual as a person who thinks they are a hardcore gamer and goes into gamestores and buys games based on boxarts, and is sure they will have fun.

Your version however seems to be a person who plays games sparingly and never really buys them unless it is increadibly awsome.

The top one to me is Casual and the bottom one is... i dunno... softcore? Jeez, sounds like a freaking porno

Teh Roxor!
08-31-2004, 11:55 PM
That's not a very good battery life, but considering the power of the PSP it's fine with me. I don't see myself watching movies on it anyway; that feature is just stupid.

That's all if I end up buying one...

Games don't have to constently load of the disc where as movies do. That is the most energy consuming part and why games can last longer.

Music depends on your memory. Seriously there's nothing stoping you from buying a 6 gigabyte stick other than the price.

So that depends on you. More than likely parts of games will be loaded into the memory to conserve on battery space meaning that some games that use the same sounds and etc will load those to memory and conserve on the amount of energy that would be used from reading the disk.

Yeah. I'm gunna buy a 6 megabite card (for 50 bucks, and only plays ATRACs) when i can just get and iPod (which plays MP3s)

Nights
09-03-2004, 06:13 PM
Buy a 20 dollar disc that lets the psp support MP3s.

BTW by the last confrence it sounds like Sony is deciding to include the MP3 support in the PSP again cause they went from no to unsure, so it might come with the system again.

Viper
09-03-2004, 06:24 PM
PSP reads UMD discs only and only Sony has UMD writers so there will not be any 3rd party UMD dics to support MP3.

Nights
09-03-2004, 06:26 PM
Dude memory... You save them to memory... You can also play games off of the memory.

IE like flash sticks *every upgraded an mp3 player*... (imagine that) We all realized this.

Buy a 20 dollar disc that lets the psp support MP3s.
Disc, not memory stick.

Even if it did come on sticks, you'd have to insert the MP3 player stick everytime you wanted to listen to MP3's.

And Nights, now not only do I have to buy the 50 Dollar Memory Stick but also a 20 Dollar UMD disc, then insert the disc and the memory stick with the specific song I want to listen to into the PSP.

Wow, convinient.

Nights
09-03-2004, 07:28 PM
Why would you ever take the memory stick out?

That is what I want to know? I never take my memory cards out of my videogame systems. Doesn't make any since.

The disc would load it into memory the format and then you only need the memory from there, not the disc everytime. Just like you don't need the disc everytime for the PS2 hardrive or Xbox DVD player, same concept.

and it is being hinted that PSP will come automatically with MP3 support again. Cause now sony says that MP3 support is in question, meaning they went from no to decide to more than likely ad it.

But I'm buying the PSP for the games... I'm very excited about the new tales game, Y's, Zweii, devils may cry, and more.

Viper
09-03-2004, 07:37 PM
There won't be a MP3 UMD disc unless Sony makes it themselves as only Sony has UMD writers and the PSP only UMD discs.

Newest analyst price expectations:

P.J. McNealy, an analyst with American Technology Research stated "I think it's going to be in the $299-$349 range. Keep in mind that [Sony Computer Entertainment president and CEO Ken] Kutaragi has maintained that they want to break even on the hardware."

Michael
09-03-2004, 07:42 PM
^is that with sony's cost too, I mean, will sony make money off of that price? or is that just passing the hardware on to you kinda price(without it making money, per unit)...

Viper
09-03-2004, 07:53 PM
$299.99 is passing off the price and $349.99 is possible picking up cash however, this is lower than previously stated as many analysts were stating that it would take nearly a $500.00 price point to make profit with both of these being far higher than the $149.99 to $199.99 'hype' the OPM is BSing us with.

Michael
09-03-2004, 07:57 PM
^any chance of sony making gamers pay to play...like they do on the big console...last I heard they were trying to connect it with PSO network...

Viper
09-03-2004, 08:02 PM
That is another part of the PSP they have yet to give any info on, even to developers.

Michael
09-03-2004, 08:05 PM
Well that sucks...it could be anything...I know the psp is being realsed later, but I don't see how I can get a system without all of it's advantages, and disadvantages known...btw, get on Aim...

Edit: but really, I do feel as though they will charge for the service, even though it's free...and if make the psp cost less, this could possibly be there only real income...and sony will pull this kind of crap...

When Sony announces something, they usually make it sound around 6-10 times bigger\better etc... Remember the PS2 being able to display 60 Billion Polygons on screen?!!

So, my take here is that the PSP will be an energy sucker, and would only last 1:30 to 2:30 hours maximum. And this is me being optimistic.

hmm. is it me or does anyone else think this guy is a retard?
reading a disc takes up no where near as much battery as using high quality graphics.
wat do u think is more demanding: reading a disc, or using a graphics card to render everything on screen at a high resolution. if u have a laptop, u can watch movies for ALOT longer than u can play games for.
christ man. wtf? u even think that the PSP is better than the DS. u are stupid

FastBullet, you need to learn your place. Half of your posts have absolutely nothing to do with the topic, but calling other people n00bs. Lay off, or you'll be banned pretty quickly. And everyone else needs to get off FastBullet's nuts for being a n00b. You have all been n00bs at one point in time.

Anyways, the primary reason that I have no interest in PSP is because of it's apparent lack of battery life. 3 hours certainly isn't enough, as I tend to go on gaming binges of like 5 hours with some games, and I don't want to have to stop halfway through, charge my PSP for a few hours, and then play again.

Hello now pspas battery lie can last up to 6 hours with all the main features turned off.

WELL I recently heard that if you use multiplayer compatibilities. it takes away battery life and if you play high intense graphic games it will take away battery life. also they said i will last 2 hours if you have really big features turned on.

i fi didnt do that i never would`ve played GTA3 or ONI.

as for batterry life, that sux for long trips but i`m guessing they are making it more for a japanese-ish market [like, being a japanese company and all]. japs would just want something to whip out on the train for an hour or so then stick it back in the charger [or whatever] when the get back home.if they release like a $10 add -on thingy like they have for mobile phonese to make it so you can use normal batteries then i`ll be content.

The battery life doesn't sound that great but 4-6 hours isn't that bad. The DS has better battery life but i guess most people would charge up another battery if they're on the road.

4-6 hours for an handheld is bad. No meather rhow you look at it. Whats more annoying is the facts that Sony itself stated that game with great graphics/most of the games they show at e3 will spend more battrey life and it will be lower than 4 hours (ala Ridger Raiser). Thats why they went to the developers and tell them to lower the graphics quality
