April 18, 2003 - Online news sites are reporting that the spring 2003 issue of Electronic Design Chain, an electronics trade magazine, features PlayStation creator Ken Kutaragi on the cover, and also contains very surprising news about the Playstation 3.

According to the reports, Kutaragi mentions that final production of the "Cell" chip, originally thought to be used in the PlayStation 3, may not be ready until 2007. He also confirms that the CPU in the PlayStation 3 will in fact not be the Cell processor, contrary to earlier reports.

With a targeted PlayStation 3 launch in 2005/2006, delayed production of the Cell processor may have caused Sony to find a different solution for their next-generation console. Check back with IGN for more news as it happens.

I hope Sony has to delay the Ps3 for a while, that'll give Nintendo a better chance to burst into the market with a new console.

*whistles* Yeah I want to see Microsoft and Nintendo fighting for first, because Sony has been on top too long and I think it would be humbling experience for them being in last place for once in the console race.

Sony just recomfirmed the "cell' tech in this moths issue of CPU magizine. A pattent for sony went though for sony on cell tech..That is why this mention of that same technology in the PS3 was mentioned again. They are aiming for 72 processors....and around 1 trillion floating point preformance from the system.

In my opinion..They should wait longer..That way they would still be able to feed off thier huge user base and still make lrge sums of many alother new company have new system out. That way, when they finally release the PS3, it will have advantages over the other system.

Another rumor is that the PS3 will usher in a wave of computer controled media systems..Where your PC or PC like system would be at the cetner of all your media center, television, internet, music, etc. If sony has its way that is.

If this happens then video game consoles will be futher into the state of going to way of to dodo.

.......graphics still mean shit. They CAN enhance the gameplay but they arnt even 25 percent of a game review.

Would you enjoy RE:0 as much on the SNES? How about Splinter Cell on the Genesis?

Graphics are as much important in the evolution of games as everything else, wether some of you people still go "ti si teh gameplay that mattars!11!!1!". Well guess what, now graphics have a great deal to do with the gameplay itself, just look at Splinter Cell for instance.

I dont give a shit how the "general public" views graphics because i would still rather play a great game with n64 graphics than a shitty one with Xbox graphics.

Yeah, but sadly the good graphics are also introducing a whole wave of good-looking crap-fests.

Look at PS2 right now. Lowest quality graphics, largest user base That one year without competing systems gave Sony a tremendous advantage in user base, developer knowledge and support and other factors that Sony will not have if it releases 1 to 2 years after Nintendo and MS next systems.
