Screw all the rumors, no press release straight from RareWare said they wil develop games for other consoles! so quit sobbin.
Yea, but Rare has not DIRECTLY said no ... they always say "we have no intentions to stop developing games for Nintendo" ... that isnt really helping Rare's image.
If they arent going third party, than why are they so quiet? Just release a freakkin press release and shut the rumors.

Rare's popularity astounds me, I mean they release like one game a year.. Maybe it's because I really only enjoyed a few of their games, and most of their other games I disliked.. Oh well.

If they did go to Microsoft, I think the quality of their titles would go down. I mean, do you think MS would give Rare the same kind of development time that Nintendo gives them? I sure don't.

Good point. Nintendo would be smart to just let them go, see how Rare does.

Hey thanks for posting those links.
I like the botton one where they say that since Nintendo has got Square and Sega and Namco on their side they don't need Rare anymore. Hahaha... I agree completely.

Yeah, and doesn't Nintendo own the liscence to PD? I thought so, and if I'm right, how much credibility can these rumors even have? They all say something about PD2 on Xbox.

I'm just confused as to why Nintendo would be willing to sell its 49% stake in the company to its main competotor...

Yeah really, I could understand the Stamper brothers selling their shares, but Nintendo selling such a large piece of the company I can't really imagine them doing.

What are you saying? Why would Nintendo just release such a jewel that has brought so much good to many Nintendo systems? It is a sad day though if Rare were to ever leave the company that has helped them for so long. I can only help but wonder why Microsoft have to be the way they are...Maybe bill never had enough laundry softener in his clothing as a child...Oh well. As a gamming company and hardware selling..You should forge your own base...Not rent and buy it from others.

Nintendo does not own the rights to Perfect Dark - they own the rights to Star Fox and Donkey Kong, and EA owns the rights to the 007 franchise. Would Microsoft give Rare as much time as Nintendo? Nintendo always changes their minds in what they want, and make Rare go back and redo it. Such the case in Star Fox Adventures. First, it was to be Dinosaur Planet on the N64. They canned that, moved it to the GameCube, and then made it a Starfox game. I'm pretty sure if (since they have) acquired them, Microsoft would add more members to their development teams and also give them fresh (and some old) titles to work on; Killer Instinct and Battletoads games, anyone? Or how about a couple XBox Live! titles? Personaly, I can't wait.

Personally, I also don't mind the Rare 3rd party idea. Not because they will be any better or any worse off, because finally all those "other console" bums can see what they missed out on for so long, and basically we can just go "Yeah, that intense."

Uhhhhhhhh........ Rare wouldn't go third party, they'd become first party to Microsoft. And Microsoft's 51% > Nintendo's 49%, so it'd be absolutely pointless for Nintendo to keep their shares when Microsoft can just go "Eff you" and make all the games exclusive anyways. Ahhhhh, let the good times roll.
And yes, Rare single-handedly saved the N64. Without them, it would have crashed and burned even worse, and they also got a lot of third party developers to help the GameCube.

Nintendo never helped the N64 what-so-ever.
The N64 was amazing when nothing could beat it, the thing had like no flaws except sound and no animated video's

There's no way they could become a 1st party. The only 1st party developers are Sony, Nintendo, and Microsoft. Since Rare is a seperate development house it could only be 2nd party meaning they only develop games for one console.

You = don't know about gaming.
Bungie is an XBox first party. BioWare is an XBox first party.
989 Studios is a Sony first party.
Retro is a Ninendo first party.
And as I said, Nintendo is the only console to have 2nd parties, and if (since) Microsoft purchased Rare they would be 1st party.

Proof,.... well the announcement is suppose to take place on Microsoft's X02 event in Seville later this month. So we dont have a "proof" but we have these:
Raretopia
.............CVG speculates that the official announcement will be made at Microsoft's X02 event in Seville later this month, which is said to focus on software. It also hints at the next game in the Perfect Dark series heading exclusively to the Microsoft Xbox..............
........One respected source, who wishes to remain anonymous, has confirmed to Raretopia that Rare is indeed to be bought by Microsoft and estimated the value of the company to be around £250 million. Allegedly, the deal has already been signed and the only thing that could stop it is if Nintendo takes up its option to buy Rare at the offered price instead of Microsoft. However, this seems very unlikely as it could have bought Rare years ago for a lower price but declined. Moreover, we were informed that a full buy-out of Rare will take place, meaning that all of its shares are to be sold to Microsoft..............
The rest can be found at: http://www.raretopia.com/news/2002/09/06.html
Rarenet
........It's looking to be a near certainty that Rare will not only abandon Nintendo exclusivity, but leave Nintendo altogether and become a Microsoft-exclusive developer. We wouldn't stake our lives on it, but barring an extensive, carefully orchestrated misinformation campaign -- and a bit of bad luck -- we now believe SFA will be Rare's last game as a Nintendo-exclusive second party....................
the rest can be found at: http://www.rarenet.com/cgi-bin/ib/ikonboard.cgi?act=ST;f=1;t=20
Cube-Europe
.............Cube Europe were contacted by a highly credited individual earlier this week who 'confirmed' that Microsoft has already bought Rare for £240 million. Allegedly, both parties have already signed the deal and the only intervention from Nintendo could prevent the deal from being finalised. According to the industry bigwig, it is at Nintendo's discretion that the final proceedings can be made to make Rare part of Microsoft. However, further delving and this is not the case. As Rare own the majority share, Nintendo would be obliged to sell their property. I doubt, however, that Rare could be so callous............

However, if nintendo offers a higher price than Microsoft ($250 m+) then Big N could get Rare.
Some games are mysteriously missing at Rare's website. They said they are updating but that was over a month ago. Coincidence??
Whenever Rare is being asked about this topic, they say No comment...NEVER says its false bullshit
if you wanna argue more, come over to the older rare thread, in GCN discussion.

First Party - The manufacturer of a hardware system. The term is used to describe the origin of software for a given system. First party software comes from the manufacturer. For instance, Nintendo is the first party publisher for the Super NES and Nintendo 64.
Second Party - A company which publishes software exclusively for a single company. SquareSoft was a defacto second party publisher for Nintendo, until it defected to Sony.
Third Party - A company which publishes software for a console that it doesn't produce. Almost all software publishers are thus third parties. Getting the support of independent third parties is considered essential for a platform's (or first party's) success.

If they don't need Rare because Square, Capcom and others then they don't need Retro Studios, Silicon Knights or any other second-party company. Don't you guys realize this Nintendo (don't need) line doesnt make sense. Remember when you first heard of Goldeneye and the first screenshots, think back how long it took this game to come out (PerfectDark 2 only on Gamecube November 23.

It'd be bad if they were bought by Microsoft? It wouldn't be stupid to the Stamper Brothers, because they want nothing to do with Rare anymore. And guess who is the only company that will give them the price they want? Microsoft.
