Halo Over-Rated

I got Halo in a pack with my Xbox a few weeks ago.

I've played it a bit and I've gotta ask:

WHAT THE HELL IS SO SPECIAL ABOUT THIS GAME?????

Sure, it's polished. Sure, it looks good. But what does this game do that Perfect Dark or Turok don't do?

I'm stumped. In fact, I'd say that the game's plot is poor and the characters are even worse.

The levels are incredibly boring, in fact they're so boring I stopped playing for a week or two or three. I've only started again now.

There's this one level (the one in the snow) where it seems you're walking around a bloody maze all the time! And the level goes on forever!

As well, all the bad guys look the same! There's 2 species and thats almost all you ever come across!

Really, if this is what people think is brilliant (and IGn gave it a 9.7 I heard) then I must be on a different wave length because this game is not even comparable to Perfect Dark.

I havent tried multiplayer, that might be fun. But this game bites.

Halo is a great game, not the best shooter ever (Goldeneye is), IMO.

Get yourself a few friends, a few controls and another XBox or two, and you might change your mind on the game.

What makes Halo so damn good is how polished it is, and the AI. Seriously, play it on impossible difficulty, and you'll realize just how good this game is.

I think the multiplayer really is nothing compared to the likes of Goldeneye or PD. I like the single player, but somehow I never saw the special magic that everyone else saw in it.

Hmmm.. well I never really liked Halo... the single player aspect is so incredibly boring!! the levels go on forever, and the grapchics are great and all, but if u want good grapchics that bad play on your computer!! :) i played halo for a week or so, then i got so sick of it... glad i never got the game, played at a friends house... when he got a second controller we tried the co-operative mode... not that great... its alot more fun, ill grant them that, but its the same boring levels, same shitty AI and same aliens over and over again!! I totally agree with u Majora!! whats all the fuss about this game?! id give it a 2/10 at best! there are much better games than this on the xbox...

Me and my friends enjoy it thoroughly. When I first showed to my friends, they were very impressed, and still are. I think someone above said the AI is shitty...everyone's entitled to their own opinions, but really? Jackals effectively hide behind shields, enemies dodge behind rocks for cover, Elites hide until their shields replenish, and Grunts fight bravely until you take out the Elite, in which case just like soliders without a general they become disorganized and scramble. And its one of the few games where your comrades (the Marines) are actually worth something; they can actually provide you with effective cover fire, and are a valuabe asset in most situations. But oh well, I suppose some people see it differently than me.

And Majora, you don't like the plot, but have you completed the game yet? They are several plot twists that are quite interesting, if you ask me. I thought the story was very well done, and it kept me interested.

Hmm...if Halo is so overrated, then why has the game been proclaimed as an instant-classic??? the game has sold well over 2 million copies to-date, got rave-reviews across the board, and was rated Game of the Year by IGN, EGM, Gamespy and a bunch of other sites and mags...

Halo didn't live up to the hype- it surpassed it. Hype is one thing; reality is another; Halo on Xbox is one of the best things to happen in videogames ever. Halo offers one of the best single-player experiences ever, the game is polished-to-boot, has spot-on control and perfect pacing, audio and visual elements as impressive as you have ever seen, amazing cut-scenes and voice acting, innovative gameplay (tons of options for control), vehicles, weapons, enemies, marines, best co-op ever, best FPS mulitplayer in a lot of peoples opinions (system-link with up to 16 players, supports vehicles, tons and tons of modes including team-modes, kick-ass level design/layout). The game is pure gravy...

I could go on and on about how great Halo really is; the game will forever be mentioned amongst the ranks of Doom, Half-Life, and GoldenEye...

But whether Halo really is good or not is all a matter of opinion... personally I don't like the whole concept, and the levels get too boring for my taste... I'm the kinda guy that needs fast action all the time, my fav genres are racing and fighting, and Halo just doesnt do it for me... and I do think seing the same aliens over and over again gets kinda boring, maybe that's just me, I dunno... bottom line is that ok, Halo may be great and all, and have a ground breaking concept and physics, as well as razor sharp graphics, but it gets boring in the long run...

In Halo you will come across grunts, those lil' bastards with the shields, big aliens, invisible aliens with the swords, hunters, and many types of flood/zombies (hell, even those robots that fly around, and all aliens come in different colors). There are plenty of enemies to fight in Halo, and you will fire roughly 4 million rounds of ammo by the time you reach the end of the game (the concept of the game is based on shoot, shoot, shoot). Plus marines and vehicles in the action (you get bored with shooting covenant and flood, have some fun with your own marines)...how is Halo boring!?! The pacing of action through single-player game is untouchable, the AI of both the Marines and enemies is nearly flawless, and the action is always going on...

You think Halo is boring, because you probably play it on easy. Try playing the game on one of the other 4 difficulties (Legendary is fucking hard; funner than hell, though). On Legendary, aliens and flood sniff you out, and are unbelievablely smart. There's more action going on in Halo on Legendary than any other FPS out there...

And you complaining about the variety of enemies is absurd...you like Resident Evil or Eternal Darkness!!? Because you'll face the same enemies over and over through both of those games (I don't see you complaining about the lack of enemies in those games). Also, in RE and ED you very rarely even come across an enemy- In Halo, you'll walk into a room on Legendary, and have 50 enemies in the room (covenant, flood, and the lil' skulls that eat your insides)...Halo has a good variety of enemies, that will give you a run for your money...the game is non-stop action...

metros, RE and ED are totally different genres in there own right, comparing it to a FPS is not a valid statement there,in FPS it's supposed to be action packed, if it wasn't then it'll be a stupid genre.i'm sorry, but for saying that i'm mad at you. you should understand some games have unique tempos in them that really plays out the game, FPS are fast,survival horrors are more slower,with the exception of Dino crisis. on another note, whats up with Dino crisis?

There is just as much/or more action in Halo as Half-Life, Doom, GoldenEye, PD, etc. The pacing of Halo is what makes the game so good-- the pacing from start to finish of a level is almost perfect (the mix of shooting/melee/grenades, enemies, marines, vehicles, objectives, new areas, etc. paces and comes together almost flawlessly).

Between single-player, multi-player (multi-player is fun, fast, and extremely addicting; especially with so many options/modes including team matches with tons of modes and 1-16 players), co-op (best co-op ever; seriously), and 4 unique difficulities, it's hard to understand how anyone could find Halo boring...

I said i didnt like the game, and YES ive played it on legendary, same boring game, and i gave reasons for not liking it... i think u have to accept that some people like it and some dont... there are always different opinions on things... i.e. i LOVE tony hawk 3, bloody roar, tekken4... and i HATE gta3, gt3, halo, and super monkey ball (jeez whats up with those monkeys?!!)... but those are just my opinions, and i have of course played all the games i mention here... i dont have an opinion on starfox adventures, smash brothers melee (although ive seen SSBM and it looks shitty, sorry to say it... will make my own opinion on it after i play it), and super mario sunshine... so im not even gonna talk about them...

Yeah but its easy to make a fighter have great graphics. Not so easy in an FPS or Adventure game.

I like the flashlight you can turn on and off.

I also think the outside environments look really good, the inside ones are mundane.

Halo's multiplayer is why I keep playing Halo. We have an Xbox Club as my school with about 75 people (we have meetings every Thursday; nothing like a good ol' deathmatch between you and 15 of your best friends). There are Halo Tournaments all over America with cash and prizes, too. If you actually owned Halo you'd know how much fun multiplayer in Halo really is.

There are tons of modes and options to start off with, but when you get the game you can create your own. You can create your own profiles, and have your own controls/options/color of player. You can create your own matches (every man/woman for himself/herself matches, and a ton of team matches that include just kill counts, races, capture the flag, oddball, and more). And you can choose various options for each match you create; the name/amount of kills/suicide penalties/weapons/vehicles for starters...

Oh, the mulitplayer just has so many options, and is hella fun when you actual hook up system link and 2-4 Xboxes, and sit down with your friends and just have some frag-fest fun...:D

I agree with Majora, whats all the fuss about? The game is just very silly in my oppinion. My friend got it with his XBOX as well as DOA 3 and yet he only evered played it twice. Once when he first got it and once when I came over. I think he is going to trade it in soon for some beat em up or something.

Halo shines at Bafta Awards


The awards honour multi-media achievement

One of the most popular console games - Xbox's Halo - has won two prizes at the annual Bafta Interactive Entertainment Awards.
The awards celebrate the UK's best websites, interactive TV and computer games.

They are the most high-profile in the UK for the multi-media industry, rewarding achievement in technology and creativity.

Halo, which was nominated in three categories, won for best Games Multiplayer and Games Console, beating off competition from Grand Theft Auto 3.

I enjoy playing Halo. It is a good game but to me it really isn't as 'good' as alot of people make it out to be. I would have to agree with Majora. Everyone has there right to their opinions.
Also on a side note I don't really care about awards. Honestly if a game gets 'Game of the Year' and you don't like it the game were does that leave you? I'm not to crazy about game reviews either but I guess them and awards have there places in our world for people who don't rent before they buy or plays at a friends. ~shurgs~

whoever's callin it a classic is wrong if u ask me. oh and i believe that with the technology available on the xbox, it shoulda been alot better. halo 2 im expecting to be significantly superior to the original. graphically anyway.
