If you count the systems from Nintendo Minus the GB series and Virtual Boy there is six systems including the Revolution. So by means of deduction that means Sixth Gen.

The stuff before it, boyos. Didn't you learn anything from my generation columns? Pre-NES. Atari, Pac-Man, Donkey Kong, Commodore 64, etc.

Pro A. Not to disrespect the Atari generation but the general concensus is that with the death of that era came a new era with the NES. We tabulate and compare the current era from the NES forward. The chaotic generation of Atari makes it difficult to mark when one gen began and ended.

Understood. The first thirteen years were chaotic. Many people have just dumped the entire show into one generation because they were really all about the same thing, and that was pure innovation and looking for the selling point.

Indeed and in 1985, Nintendo combined innovation, selling point and marketing to raise the Phoenix from the ashes.

1983, actually, if you want to say that their release of the Famicom in Japan was the beginning. In this country, though, it was 1985. They got the ball rolling and then they scored the jackpot in 1987 with The Legend of Zelda.

Yeah, I used the American date since it was that insane NY stunt and US launch that began the common 'Nintendo' era. It hit Japan in '83 and did Ok but it hit the US almost 2 years later and we freaked out.

A piece of crap?

And for your columns.. they're so long and endless, do you think we every one of us actually reads them?

Some people like reading those things Ix. I've read a few, and they're pretty good.

The Atari 2600 isn't a peice of crap! I have one, and it's a hell of a food tray. It's also pretty stylish with the wood panelling and all.

Actually, I intend on using it. My neighbor found it in her garage and gave it to me. I have Pac-Man, Space Invaders, Combat, and Asteroids. But the system is so old. It has some wierd output cord that I've never seen before. I think I'll bring it to Radio Shack and see if they have an adapter or something...

that's an adapter, not an output cable

but maybe that adapter will work for it. I dunno...
