Sony is using Blu ray, I know that. But what are Nintendo and Xbox using?

That is the current thinking going around.

HD-DVD is a NEC/Toshiba developed format backed by teh DVD Forum Group.

Current specs:

Single layer: 15GB for read only and 20GB for rewritable
Dual Layer: 30GB for read only and 32GB for rewritable
User data rate: 36.55 Mbps
* Total compatibility with present DVD (same disc structure: back-to-back bonding of two 0.6mm substrates)
* Low cost disc manufacture (current manufacturing equipment can be used)
* High density (PRML signal processing technology & land/groove recording method for rewritable disc)
* Supports slim drive units (no disc cartridge required, single objective lens)
* Ready for the PC and AV applications (Uses the UDF format, the same as DVD)

Sony will definately use Blu-Ray
Nintendo will definately use HD-DVD
MS will most likely use Blu-Ray as well

HD-DVD vs. Blu-Ray ah the future equal of Beta vs. VHS. HD-DVD will win out cause of the compatibility issue, which Blu-Ray does not have.

Xenon is using DVD-9's (dual layer DVD, 9 gigs) at the moment. That might change to HD-DVD now that Sony has revealed support for BRD. Nobody knows what Nintendo is using.

BRD is too expensive for MS, they wouldn't use that.

Im pretty sure MS and Nintendo are both gonna use HD-DVD. But hey, things can change. you never know what will happen.

As long as we get games that start out at $50 and hopefully go down in price as fast as a PC game.

I was pretty sure it was Sony with Blue Ray, M$ with HD-DVD and Nintendo with their own format (probably one similar to GC for backwards compatibility).

Remember that GC is the only one of the current consoles that has failed to be emulated, so a similar format should be expected

BRD is too expensive for MS but yet Sony can afford it? Show me the logic behind your statement.

Sony is the one making it.

MS would have to lease it from Sony. Since MS is trying to shave off the cost of the Next X at every angle, this would be thought of as an exspensive media to use.

Well, I stand corrected but I'm sure MS could afford it if they wanted too. Nothing it really "too expensive" for them.

I agree with that one.

$3 billion in the whole and still going.

Quite a few GCN games have been both emulated and cracked...

MS is launching at least a year earlier then Sony. Prices for BRD will be higher when they launch as it will still be newer technology. Xenon is planned to be more cost effective and adding BRD is definitely not a way to make it more cost effective...

The only game i can think of that has been hacked on GCN is PSO Episode I&II.

Ive heard HD-DVD is also a hard medium to crack, can anyone confirm that for me?

Yea. It's harder to crack, not impossible. Around 1 - 5 hours longer to crack, depending on how big the game is.
