So I've heard a lot of things about Nintendo's upcoming Revolution, but I've got no clue whats fact and what's fiction. Come to think of it... the only thing that I know is 100% true about Nintendo's 5th console, is that it's code-named "Revolution."

So to gt to the point... I would be eternally grateful if those who are a bit more knowledgable about the system could post the things that are DEFINITE about the Revolution. I would gladly give out rep to whomever does. :spiny:

Umm, it will surly be able to connect to your moniter. And the colors will be black, red and another color (I think it was Iwata that said this). Also a new revolutionary way to play is definate. He also said that it will be bigger than a Gamecube.

It's pretty much confirmed that it will be backwards compatible with the GC.

TyBo, I have your list for you. These are from Nintendo themselves or the company creating the specific chip.

Code Name: Revolution
CPU: IBM copper chip based on the Blue Gene/L supercomputer.
GPU: ATi, X800 based or higher.
Connection to a computer monitor is confirmed. For what purpose is not yet revealed.
Launch time is within the time frame as Sony and MS.

I wanted to give him only absolute concrete details, backwards compatability is only a logical inclusion since IBM is again making the CPU and ATi is once again making the graphics chip but it hasn't been confirmed....yet.

The only things confirmed is the code name (Revolution), that it will be able to hook up to a PC monitor, and that more details are coming at E3 2005.

Ignore everything else because it is just a rumor.

Cool... it's great that Nintendo's sticking with IBM for the processer... Gamecube had the shortest load times ever. It's also good to know that you can connect to a monitor... I've seen a Dreamcast hooked up to a computer monitor through the VGA box, and the picture quality was outstanding. I just hope that you aren't required to connect to a monitor to play Revolution... Nintendo could easily lose a lot of casual gamers that way.

Thanks Viper, Outlaw Adidas, prime_timer, and Prince. + Rep for all!!

np. But online is a given. Nintendo knows that they can't just ignore online. Sony and M$ have proven that to them.

Miyamoto also said that the DS is a hint of what is to come but it will not have two screens.

So I guess maybe it will come with a screen (thinks of Dork's vision) but not two and the second one will be a touchpad control that kind of is the second screen but is more control and/or the TV/PC monitor is another screen.

Michael
10-03-2004, 06:51 PM
^No, I don't think that is correct...the Ds is a test for the revolution. The N:R will be able to give developers the tools to make unique games that no other system could emulate. The business model will try to be copied in the N:R, but also have the same power as there competiers.

So says the tooViper theory.

TyBO
10-04-2004, 04:01 AM
Uhh... I definitely would. Online gaming is fun, but it isn't everything. It's just multiplayer, but with people you probably don't no.

I've never been all that "wowed" by the concept of playing games against people over the internet. The point of gaming is playing games, not online compatability.

Hello, I just thought I would share some information about the upcoming N5. A friend of mine (lets call him Jack) who works for A********* (really Tr****** but same thing) happened to mention something to me about the machine being designed to be an in the home/out of the home machine. It’s said to have a screen sitting on top of the unit that folds down. This makes sense as Nintendo was showcasing some of its own LCD technology (5 1/2 inch screen, I think) right here in Los Angeles at E3 for the GCN. While they only had one screen showcasing Phantasy Star Online, it was the evidence they are developing the technology. Next, the machine is supposed to be really small, smaller then GCN size perhaps. It will contain Game Boy Player, GCN backward compatibilty, Wavebird technology, DVD movie playback, wireless online play, and a hard drive. While other features were not disclosed to him, he did say that this is the way Nintendo can isolate themselves from direct competition with Microsoft and Sony. By combining the Game Boy and home console market Nintendo hopes to steal a considerable amount of market share by releasing in late 2004. Oh yeah, the name N5 isn't just for this being the 5th system, its for Nintendo and their other four partners who are going in on the machine. AOL is the first and the other 3 will be announced, hence the name N5 or Nintendo 5.

No, they said more then 4 people will be able to play...they didn't say how...maybe my original idea of self included lan...1 system, 6 computer moniters...but that's speculation.

I'm pretty sure I remember reading that it will be bigger then the GCN.

More then 4 ports??? A 4 split screen on the TV and a 2 on the monitor? I think that is a waste of... something.

If I remember the source I'll post it up later.

If there are more than four controller ports, keep in mind that not all multi player games use split screen. (SSB:M for instance)

Good point.

But he said "more then 4 will be able to play". He didn't point anything aobut adding more ports and including LAN. This could just be another "hint" about online.

Mario Net, anyone?

i think its cool that nintendo is trying to be revolutionary and not doin the same system with better graphics cause then games made for it will never be able to be put on PS3 or Xenon and more people will buy it :). Well that is the plan anyway.

Yea Nintendo says that but then watch Nintendo blow both systems away in graphic capabilities.

Viper
10-10-2004, 08:59 AM
Actually if you read into the interview I posted with Reggie, Nintendo doesn't downplay graphics and technology, it just does't use that as the main focus point. Nintendo home systems have always been either the most powerful or very near and why is there any reason to think that will change now?
