Um.. reccomended games from me:

Virtua Fighter 4 (It's a greatest hits)
Ratchet & Clank
Sly Cooper
ICO
Shinobi

And no, I did not forget FF, GTA, DMC, or any other things like that, I think these are the top 5 PS2 games out there, maybe not the most popular, but certainly some of the best.

Ico- The most beautiful, emotional, artsy game around, great puzzles too.

Virtua Fighter 4- Best fighter ever, tons of replay value.

MGS2- I don't care what anyone said, I loved the story and it had one of the best endings ever... plus superb production value and direction from Hideo.

Jak & Daxter + Ratchet & Clank- If you like 3d platformers, you'll love these.

Rez- If you can get your hands on this masterpiece, do so... It's innovative and psychodelic... an excellent experience.

GTA3- Yeah it's cliched to like this game so much, but it really is great... first game I got for PS2 and I'm still playing it, there's so many possibilities, it's so fun to just run around and create havok, especially fi yuo have friends who dont like video games, they'll like this.

Best FPS- Red Faction (a whole lot better than RFII)
Best sports game- Hot Shots Golf 3
Best game that's cheap and no one likes but me- State of Emergency ($9 @ EB)
Best mindless game with style, that's cheap as well- Gungrave
Best music game ever (not Rez)- Frequency
