I'm not sure about that, but he helped so many amazing bands get noticed...great broadcaster, too.

Forgive my ignorance but is John Peel the guy behind the 'Peel Sessions' recordings?
What a shame.

Isn't he the same guy that made a few songs with Nirvana?
Sucks to hear he died.

Radio 1/4 broadcaster. Took demo tapes from bands and played them on the radio before they were big. Joy Division had amazing Peel Sessions, it helped them gain support. He revolutionized popular music.
You're a Brit and you don't know who he is, Macca?

thom yorke, although i dont think he had anything to do with john peel, has supported many bands that peel has aired and admires the man incredibly.
you, being the ultimate radiohead fan, should know that.

i thought i was doing pretty good just knowing thom yorke`s name. i dont do much with band member names, i just rememebr the band names usually. and i certainly dont know anyone who like helps bands/ but this guy sounds like he does deserve my respect from what you`ve all said so RIP.

Fuck, I think it would be easier if I just told you.
John Peel and Ian Curtis are the only people mentioned in this thread that are geniuses.

Aye.
I like Radiohead a lot but I also think they are fairly overrated. Every magazine compares everyone to Thom Yorke and I have no idea why.

I also just remember that John Peel was, fittingly, the man to announce Ian Curtis' suicide on the airwaves.
"Bad news, lads. Ian Curtis, of Joy Division, has died."
