Yeah, the last couple of Half-Life 2 threads died nicely, so I figured I'd make a new one, seeing how the game is going to be out in about.........15 hours.

I got my gold package bonus pack in the mail on Saturday, too. It has an awesome strategy guide thats 300 odd pages. Awesome pictures and tons of info. Haven't looked into much, since I don't want to spoile too many things. I also got 3 posters, a sticker, a hat, and the soundtrack. Its pretty nice, I highly recommend getting the guide, lots of little things in the game that can be missed.

Oh yeah, I'm putting a general "spoiler" warning on this entire thread since many of you have trouble with the concept of what is and what is not a spoiler. Still spoiler tags are recommended, like so.

Alyx's dad has a pet headcrab named Lamaar.

oh hey.

Yeah, I'm not "down" with the music business, so I'm not sure what "in-house" means.

But its just a bunch of soundtracks for the levels, none of the breaking benjamin remix stuff.

Oh yeah, the first track is the background music you hear when you first see the guy with a valve in his eye. Still gives me chills whenever I hear it.

Anyways, both articles gave very nitpicky negatives of the game. I'm excited.

Nope, only Counter-Strike:Source. Valve has said that they're working on a "secret" multiplayer, so we'll see how that goes.

The SDK was released a couple weeks back, so expect some form of DM by the end of the month.

You would think so. Thats my only problem with it, too. CS:Source really isn't anymore different than the CS from 3 years ago. I'd much rather they just have 8 guys with physics guns and barrels everywhere.

I am over CS: Source since I have been playing CS since 1.1 and source is the same game pretty much.. I will be playing a little bit of DoD source and that is probably it, unless some new mods come out, who knows, if I get into my game development course after school then i might make my own mod.

This game will be the best game ever. I can't wait. Tomorrow I pick it up after my class ends at 10:30. Fuck yes. This game is going to kick Halo 2's ass. I mean... Halo 2 is probably the best game to date... but I know HL2 is going to destroy it. I have a gordon poster on my wall. He has a crowbar and it says Half Life 2 on it. It is fucking awesome. It is right next to my Halo 2 poster. Lol.

Surprisingly, Half-Life 2's story is one of the most disappointing aspects of the game. The first half of the game feels a bit unfocused, while the second half seems rushed. Even worse, the story leaves behind a mess of unanswered questions, and it doesn't touch on any of the lingering questions left over from the first game. Valve likes to leave tantalizing hints and tidbits everywhere in the game, but few of these actually develop into anything interesting, and by the end you're left wondering what the game was all about. In many ways, Half-Life 2 feels like the middle chapter in a much larger story, and it suffers as a result.

Half-Life 2 doesn't revolutionize the genre, instead sticking with the familiar formula of run-and-gun action, occasional puzzle-solving, and scripted sequences established by Half-Life

Half-Life 2 settles into a more conventional and familiar style of play. Aside from a detour through a deserted town full of all sorts of booby traps, there are a lot of echoes of the original Half-Life in Half-Life 2--so many, in fact, that there's a strong sense of déjà vu at times.

Uh oh. Sounds familiar to the "other" FPS that also starts with an H that a certain someone was constantly bashing for the same reasons ;).

I can't wait for Half-Life 2. I'm getting it free from that ATI offer thing and it should be releasing to Steam any minute now :D.

That Gamespot review was the harshest fucking review I have ever read, the negative aspects the guy talks about are given a standing ovation by every other magazine/site review I have read so far. The guy complains about stupid AI.. WTF?! It's a sad day when a site like Gamespot can give a token skating game a perfect 10 but give the "best PC FPS ever" a 9.2.

in css the ai sucks when try to save hostages, but i am downloading HL2 right now about 71% done, damn i am going to be here a while. yeah i got the silver pack after upgrading from the ATI bunde not bad didnt care forthe posters so i got it Hey what fps you guys getting playing Cs:s i have been geting 70-100 depending on the map and shit flying at you, also what is your favorite map? my is either aztec or office cant stand dust anymore after the 3 months beta testing on that map only.

Just played about 2 hours into it, this game... jesus fucking christ.

It destroys halo 2 so bad, I knew it would be true.

I picked up a cinder block and dropped it on a beer bottle and the bottle shattered.

Wow, if I had an adequate computer that could support HL2 I'd get it, but right now I don't. But they did say that HL 2 would be coming to Xbox 2 and the Revolution, so no excuses here

No, the only other version of Half-Life 2 in the works is for the Xbox.

Also on the docket are new versions of mods like Counter-Strike and even an Xbox--not an Xbox 2--version of Half-Life 2.

Awesome game so far! Load times are fucking annoying as hell but I am still enjoying it. Excellent graphics and physics, most beautiful water I've ever seen in a video game, greatest texture work ever, and awesome art style and atmosphere.

Not perfect, but a GOTY candidate for sure. Wish I had a top of the line PC to play it on. My rig has 1gig of RAM and it still is stuttering at some points :(

I got the gravity gun, its pretty useful if you want to save ammo but the damage out put per second is no where near a gun (unless you have a saw blade and line up multiple targets)

And it plays extremely smoothly for 95% of the gameplay.

Half Life 2 is fucking awesome, my bet for GOTY, Ravenholm fucking rules.

I am about 2 chapters away from the finish (I think) but I have stopped for the night, too tired to enjoy it enough.

Dude... this is the best game ever. Hands down. No competition. Halo 2 sucks when compared to this game. I'm not even kidding... and I love Halo 2.

The physics are absolutely amazing. I love just throwing shit around with the gravity gun. The gameplay is flawless. The vehicles kick ass. The enemies are smart. Fuck, so much fucking goodness. Developers have a real task on their hands to try and top this game. The music kicks ass too. The graphics are the best to date. Simply amazing. The textures are mindblowing. I could go on for hours.... but I won't.

If you're computer is beastly enough, go and buy this.

Oh, and I don't mind the load times at all. It is relatively fast on my computer. I LOVE THIS GAME!

Yes I just got my package tonight so I got the soundtrack and the posters, strategy guide (won't use it but cool to have) and some other shit, I am listening to the sound track right now.

This is the best game ever, makes Halo 2 look like a joke, honestly.

Halo 2 does indeed pale in comparison to this virtuoso piece of genius, a game that is worthy to knock Doom off its throne as the best PC game ever because this game gets it right where it counts. It is not a perfect game by any means. Allied AI is shaky and it does get off to a slow start, but once it gets going, it is off at full speed. It will not be the #1 game of 2004, but it will sit near the very top along with San Andreas, MPII, and maybe even MGS3.

The game gets kinda tough, it pisses me off when the flying things come from behind you and light you up, and automatically know exactly where you are and shoot at you through buildings.

Ravenholm was intense. I loved fucking around with all the traps set up and shit. Throwing the blade around with the GG was fucking awesome. I killed 9 fuckers at once with one shot of the blade. It was fucking sweet. I'm on the second part of the prison level right now.
