UMD isn't a Nintendo product though, it's Sony.

The PSP plays UMDs and itll have movies and music released on UMDs...you can also download movies, music, MP4 files, and pictures onto the/a PSP MemoryStick...

You will also be able to download games later on.
The PSP also has free internet play from the start.
UMD is a very common format for Video Recorders and other electonics of that nature.
It's a disc covered in a plastic case (to prevent scratching and make it more durable).

UMD is a new type of format, so how can it be very common for video recorders.
I don't remember sony saying that it would have free internet gameing from the start. I do remember them sayin that they were gonna make an online service like Xbox Live.
