I'm looking to finally get use out of my saturn. All I have is one crappy controller that doesn't work completly, 2 lightguns that I have no games for and 2 games (Nightwarriors: Darkstalkers Revenge, and Shinobi Legions). Now for the questions.
How does the basic system of the saturn work (memory and stuff like that)?
What are my essential needs in order to play some games?
What type of memory cartrigde should I get?
Do I have to get the memory battery replaced?
Where is a good place to find saturn games(ebay need not be mentioned)?
What are some good fighting games, and will I need extra requirments to play
them (like the ram cart and such)?
Where can I get good gamepads/arcade sticks (again, ebay need not be mentioned)?
What are some games that you would recommend, that don't cost too much? Shining Force III is not a viable option, unless you can show me a place that has it for cheap.
Thats all my questions for now... And I know nights will probably be the first to jump on this thread. I'll rep anyone who give me the info I need.

I think that answers the first few of your questions.

How does the basic system of the saturn work (memory and stuff like that)?
Put the CD in and play. The back could be used for various things (network to hook up online and play online games), 2d ram card, memory, and import convertor.
What are my essential needs in order to play some games?
I can't stress this enought!
Buy a 4in1 Memory Card: (You can buy these at a reasonable price at used gaming stores.
4in1 memory cards do the following:
Allow you to play import games
Memory
Gameshark like functions (Most are not all)
Ram (for superior 2d games)
Purchase a decent Controller. (I prefer the original standard controller although they analog controller for Nights is quite nice)
What type of memory cartrigde should I get?
4in1
Do I have to get the memory battery replaced?
(YES) In order for you system to save it's settings you must have a battery.
Where is a good place to find saturn games(ebay need not be mentioned)?
Used gamestores and pawn shops. (My girlfriend found Panzer Dragoon Saga not even opened at a pawn shop for 10 dollars)
What are some good fighting games, and will I need extra requirments to play
them (like the ram cart and such)?
My favorites are as followed:
1) Fighters Megamix
2) Xmen VS Street Fighter (import cheap)
3) Vampire Savior (import)
4) Marvel VS Street Fighter (import)
5) Virtua Fighter 2
6) Street Fighter Alpha 3
7) King of Fighters
8) Waku Waku
9) Dead Or Alive
10) Grove on Fight
Games that Require or use the Memory Card for better animation or in Italics.
Hmm...that's not to include Fighting Vipers (it's awesome, the second sucked) and Last Bronx.
Where can I get good gamepads/arcade sticks (again, ebay need not be mentioned)?
Same

Isn't SFA3 actually Street Fighter Zero 3 and cost a lot to import? And what about Waku Waku and Last Bronx. Aren't they beat 'em ups. Unless i've been getting wrong information.

Last Bronx is basically Virtua Fighter with Weapons
Waku Waku Is an 2d fighting game that is a bit odd but awesome.
Street Fighter Alpha 3 is Street Fighter Zero 3 in Japan. (I got mine for 15 buck back in the day)

I was looking for some saturn games online and I came across this.
http://www.classicgaming.com/saturn/content/vault/faqs/saturn/system/saturn_newbie.txt
Some games that required a 4MB cartridge (Vampire Savior, Marvel
Super Heroes vs. Street Fighter, Dungeons and Dragons Collection) were
not compatible with the 4-in-1 as is. With minor soldiering
modification to the cart, the games do work. The "modification" does
not add another component to the cartridge but some people call the 4-
in-1 a 5-in-1 because of the modification. Just as additional
information, the 4-in-1 carts should not be assumed to be forward
compatible with future games that require or take advantage of the 4MB
cart. (Street Fighter Zero 3 will probably the last Saturn game that
requires the 4MB cart.)
Did you ever have any problems with the 4in1 cart? Because Marvel Super Heros vs. Street Fighter is probably going to be one of my first games and I wanna make sure I can get the full experince of it.

Guardian Heroes - RPG/Side Scroller/Figher (Cheap USA)
Blasphemy. The North American version goes for over $80 and the Japanese version goes for around $60. Cheap my ass. Excellent game though.
Street Fighter Zero 3 is better on Saturn than even Dreamcast, but it's expensive. X-men vs. Street Fighter is incredible, and possibly my favorite Saturn fighter.
If you like 2D shooters, Saturn is heaven. Keep in mind you'll have to import as well. Sokyugurentai is my personal fave, followed by Batsugun and Radiant Silvergun.
Owning a decent Saturn collection is FAR from cheap, but it's a 2D fan's dream (unless of course, you own a Neo Geo AES, which is even more expensive).
mc vans has some saturn games. check it out.

^LOL, I found that on ebay for about 20 bucks. I don't have a credit card though so all purchases will have to be through my brother.

The Panzer Dragoon Series has always kept me intrested in Saturn...Sometimes I just wish both games would be fucking PORTED! Those are fucking classics. Nights is another classic.
This thread makes me envy you Saturn owners. I thought Saturn games were great, I never had the time or money to invest in one. Let alone have any urge to buy it, the only reasons to buy Saturn for me, would be the Panzer series, Nights, and some shooters.
Hell, I even had a list of Saturn games to buy, but I threw it away, and I forgot most of the games I wanted to buy.

No problem.
I only used the 4in1 to play my Marvle VS Streetfighter.
BTW (Check local pawnshops and used videogame stores)
I just saw Guardian Heroes and Gamers for 19.99. That I consider cheap.
Also they hand a new Vampire Chronicles and Marvel VS Streetfighter for 29.99.

I just found that. But i'll be fucked trying to get my brother to actually buy video games online. He buys dvd's online, but he insists on buying games only upfront.

Am I better off just modding the sytstem to play imports or use the 4-in-1? Do 1M games like Metal Slug work with the 4M RAM cart?
