Am I the only person who is not impressed by this game Halo? It seems to me that this game has gotten way more hype then it deserves. When the first Halo came out, it was fine. It got good reviews and people talked about it, like they would for any good launch title. It seems the big hype came with "Halo 2". Every one was talking about it, since I did not own an xbox, I just ignored it. I was already tired of the game before it came out, though, the worst had yet to come in my mind. Every one who has an xbox, even those who don't, seems like they have been talking about how great and how cool Halo is. Maybe its because I don't own the game, but when I've played it, both on line and signle player, it did not appeal to me. It seemed everything that was in Halo was in all other FPS and most others did a better job. It came to my attention later, that it seemed the only reason why Halo became so "cool" were the graphics. I'm not saying the gameplay is not good, I'm saying there were way better FPS that should have gotten more hype, but didn't. For example, Timesplitters Two.. That is probably one of the best next gen FPS. It has a good variety of characters, levels, weapons, and TONS of game play. What I want to know is why people are obbsessed with this game? Every one I've asked haven't given me a good answere. They've said, "it's fun" or, "its SO cool". Why is this game so popular? :confused2

I personally didn't like Halo 2 either (I played it at a friends house, solo and 4 person multiplayer so anyone who was going to say "You should try it first" can just skip it). I don't see why everyone loves this game so mutch either. In all honesty, I think Master Cheif is cool. I mean, his character design rocks (what can i say, I'm a sucker for cool armor and guns) but I can't stand the gameplay. If graphics and character design were all i cared about, I'd love Halo, but the gameplay just doesn't cut it IMO, and that's where it counts.

I have played it enough to know it's pretty fun. I agree that the hype is out of control though. I don't really see what seperates it from any other decent fps. In my opinion it doesn't touch Golden Eye. The way you could interact with the environment made Golden Eye more real to me, even though Halo has 10 times better graphics.

Well, everything that was in Halo was in other FPS games and almost all reviews of the game mention that but what you have to understand is that Halo took the basics of the FPS genre and made it better. It set a whole new standard for FPS games because it had the same affect Half-Life did, it just raised the bar because it took the basic formula and did it better. IMO, it is a wonderful game with small defects that can be overlooked because, at it's core, it is just a really fun game.
But, oh well, I'm not going to argue with you or try to force my opinion on you. Everyone is entitled to thier own opinions. Personally, I didn't care for Metroid Prime much just because it didn't feel like a Metroid game to me but every game has people who love it and people who dislike it.

No, Bungie just made a pretty looking FPS. There's hardly any revolutionary about it except that it was the first decent FPS in like 2-3 years and it was on a next gen console. HL is still miles better.

^ Maybe you need to reread my post. I never said there was anything revolutionary about it. Show me one sentence in there where I said there was something revolutionary about it.
I said they took the basic FPS formula and just made it better. They improved upon things that had allready been done.
Except Halo 2 did have dual weilding which is badass.

Apologies. It's just to me taking the basics of something and making it much better usually means revolutionary.

I see Halo 2 as just another game. I don't see it superior in any way. I don't see how anyone else could either.
After playing the game more and more, i realize that i like it less and less. Single player gets boring SO fast. Multiplayer, although still fun, just doesn't touch the original for me. I don't know exactly what it is that makes the original so much better imo, but its just not part of Halo 2. That is not to say that it isn't an amazing game, it is, and its hype was well founded i guess, i mean it is the first real MUST HAVE on the Xbox since Halo, which is probably the only reason that is sold so amazingly well. Still, for me the best FPS is still Halo, the second just doesnt cut it.
This game only deserves the amount of hype it received if was released about 3 years ago. Now however? Same old shit. Don't get me wrong. It's a great game and I love it, but ya, they hyped it a little too much.
It was good but wasn't great. I found Halo to be overhyped.

Get over it. Halo 2 is just so damn good its scary. The only reason you dont like it is because you either suck at it or you arent a fan of the genre. Also, quit this bullshit about gameplay and tell me what exactly you didnt like? Tell me what bothered you so much that it made the game unenjoyable to the point where yyou cant say its a good game.

Halo 2 is a brilliant game in every right, but the overhype did seem to hurt it a little bit to where people are bitching about every little thing. Fable was sabotaged somewhat by the same system. Is it fair? Perhaps not, but the businessmen wanted this and this is what they got. Halo 2 is not a perfect game. I still think the Arbiter missions are still a couple of cuts lower than the MC missions in single-player, but it is a lot of fun to play and it made major improvements over the original. One of the best titles of the year.

Bungie did a bad job with the FPS element I think. Not the shooting or anything but the actual view. Maybe I'm just used to Half Life or UT2k4 or Doom 3 or any....other FPS but Halo just feels like your view is zoomed in all the time and I hate it.

Halo = This generation's Goldeneye
Halo 2 = This generation's Perfect Dark
Plain and simple.

Ok go play Call Of Duty or something. Get a rifle. Hit the button that gets you right behind the gun and try and move around. That's the kind of movement I've been seeing in Halo and it's horrible.

You're kidding right?
Don't get me wrong, I love Perfect Dark (it was my second favorite game until Halo 2). But the single player fucking blows out the ass. I HATED Halo's single player. I could play Co-op alright, but single player was just so fucking boring. But Halo 2's single player is fucking epic as hell. The first 4 or 5 missions and the last 2 (and the one in the middle where you cut the cables) are really fun. The rest just seem like filler levels and are okay at best, but the rest of them are damn awesome. Perfect Dark did not have one fun single player level. Goldeneye's single player rocked though.
orcus, I have no idea what you're talking about being zoomed in.. it seems like any other FPS to me.
Now I'm not going to try to make you guys like the game, but I will say that I felt the same way as you did about the original Halo until I actually got the game and an Xbox. It just made the game so much more enjoyable. Nothing incredibly revolutionary is in the game, but it raises the bar in every aspect.
Timesplitters 2 is a fun FPS, but it doesn't even compare to Halo 1, much less Halo 2. The single player is retarded in that game, and there's not even a coherent storyline. Multiplayer is okay... but Halo 2 multiplayer is 1,000,000x more fun.
People say Halo 2 is fun because it IS fun. That's not a lame reason for liking a game! Why do I have to describe why I'm having fun. Nobody has fun with a game or likes it because the graphics are good. They like the game because they have fun playing it. I have played Halo 2 multiplayer for what I have calculated to be about 3.5 days, and I'm not getting bored of it at all. The only other game I've ever been able to do that with is Perfect Dark.
Yes, Halo 2 was overhyped, but that doesn't stop it from being one of the best games of all time. Honestly, if you don't like this game, you're either picky, haven't played it enough, or totally suck ass at it. Either that or you don't like First Person Shooters, or First Person Shooters on consoles.

Wow, what a pointless rant. Didn't I just say that the Halo series is this generation's leading FPS? What's the deal then? Not our fault the single player isn't as good as multiplayer but these kinds of FPS games thrive on multiplayer, single player is just for show really.
I would've loved to have played Halo as much as I played GE or PD but I don't want to buy an Xbox and after 10 years of FPS games it gets old and pointless.

Perfect Dark's single player seemed fine to me. I still find it to be very enjoyable and a lot of fun to play.
Halo is the leading FPS of the generation only because there hasn't been that much to compete with it. Metroid Prime could be considered a contender but I don't regard it as an FPS. I like the term FPA. First-Person Adventure. That suits the game better.

Niether did the single player in Halo 2 if thats what your implying. The guy who said hype hurt this game and fable deserves a gold star. The ppl who are bitching about this game need bite me.

Halo does not deserve the huge hype it got, atleast from single gameplay. It just abbsored.
