I want Sega to bring back what made Sonic special. I'm a HUGE sonic fan but the game recently have been lacking. Heck the only thing keeping me going is my Sonic Comic subscription. WE need a new solid Sonic game. I wouldn't mind a "Sonic Adventure 3" as long as theyre less treasure hunting parts, and more high speed Sonic levels. Sonic Heroes was good but it was missing ALOT! I also think it would be awsome if somehow (someway) Sega would come up with a system to knock GCN, XBOX and PS2 off the map. Not dissing Nintendo or anything, they always were my favorite company, but Sonic always has and always will be my favorite all time video game character. Anyway just had to get that out of my head.

Sonic is kind of overrated, and there were some better platformers availiable for the Genesis like Ristar, Rocket Knight Adventures, and Dynamite Headdy; but Sonic CD, Sonic and Knuckles, and Sonic the Hedgehog 2 were the best Sonic games ever. If Sonic Team did a good 2D console Sonic game in high-res (like the Guilty Gear X series), and kept the great level design of Sonic and Knuckles and Sonic 2, as well as the alternating levels of Sonic CD, that would royally rock my socks off.

I'm not a fan of any of the newer Sonic games. Adventure, Heroes, Shuffle (ick) and even Advance all lack the great level design Sonic had in the 16-bit days.

EDIT: I suggest you get Sonic Mega Collection or Mega Collection Plus (depending on what consoles you have acess to). They don't contain Sonic CD (it's been Sega CD and PC exclusive for like, ever), but it's got the games to fill anyones old-school Sonic needs.

I want another sega console for sure. No way they could ever compete with sony, microsoft or even nintendo. They'd have to do something different. Boy I'd love it if Sega would revive 2-D console gaming (not handheld). Maybe Genesis 2! It'd have to be the ultimate 2-D gaming console with graphics comparable to the GBA. And like I said, it can't be a handheld. It's gotta be a console. That'd be awesome. Am I making any sense?

Hahahaha......oh wait you were serious.

Hahahahahahaha I know it would never happen, it would just be cool. Either that or Nintendo should just buy out Sonic Team (which still may never happen). I liked Adventures but Heroes lacked like crazy. That 2D Sonic 4 sounded cool but I always just considered Sonic and Knuckles number 4 since it continued the storyline.

Back to what I was saying, Sega had kind of a good thing going for them with Dreamcast though, the memory cards were great, they had Sonic Team, but what made the machine die I have know clue. I didn't even get a Dreamcast, I was hooked on N64. All Sega needs is better 3rd Party, and more original franchises. But Sega going 100% Nintendo would be best for both companies.

Also I would love to see a game based off the Sonic Comics.

10 years ago Sega released the Saturn, which did 2D better than the GBA. Much better. It did 2D even better than NeoGeo and sometimes I think even Dreamcast.

Unfortunately no 2D Sonic made it to that console.

What Sega should do is make a new system that doesn't compete with the other 3 but still gives Sega fans what they want. It should have excellect 3D graphics and run on CD and Cartridge. It should be compatible with every Sega system ever made, they should bring back those tight memory cards and have some good 3rd party support. For new games, they can decide if they want the game to be 2D (for cartridges) or 3D (for CD's) that way they can just develope anything they want, keep Sonic in 2D for people that enjoy it that way and also make it in 3D for those who enjoyed the Adventure series. It would give them more selection for developement and able to create classic era type games while still keeping up with this generation. It should cost maybe around $100-115 and the games should cost around $20-25. Hell I'd buy the system.

I've always found Sonic games easy. On the Sega system, all you had to do is just hold the right button pad and you'd complete most of that stage. Well for me anyway.

^That's how I feel about them too. Once he got going it was like you weren't even really controlling him. He just ran though loops, ran over bad guys, and collecting those golden rings. All you had to do was hold right on the d-pad.

With the ram cardridge the Sega Saturn did 2d gaming better than the Dreamcast.

Astal for Sega Saturn was an amazing game and my favorit example of 2d Platforming. I loved the style!

Check that one out.

Indeed. Astral has the stylistically the best 2D I've ever seen. Even better than Samurai Shodown II, which I consider second. My uncle owns Astral.

I never saw the big deal with sonic games. They where alright, had good graphics for the time, and fighting the enimies and bosses was fun, but for a platforming game, their was very little actualy platforming. in platforming games I like to feel in toltal control, that every mistake was my own and the game didn't play it for me. With sonic alls you had to do was make him run and occationaly jump out of the way of stuff. In my book sonic doesn't hold a candle to Mario.

Bingo. Why didn't that series take off?

But as for Sega, Sonic is not the only series of theirs that needs to be fixed. I want a Phantasy Star RPG with an excellent story and memorable characters the way it used to be, not some craptastic hack n' slash suckfest. Also, Shining Force. They are making a Shining Force for PS2, but... they seem to have removed what made Shining Force good- the SRPG aspect. It seems to be more like an action game from what I can tell. I'm not saying it can't be fun, but I like them the way they are. Shining Force 1, 2, and 3 will always be among my favorite games. It seems that Camelot had a big part in making the first three, but they don't work for sega anymore for whatever reason.

They are currently making a brand new Stradegy RPG as well for a home console.

Best of all:

Rumor is that they are porting Shining Force 3 (the sega saturn materpiece - best stradegy rpg ever made) to PSP. I believe Working Designs is wanting to do the translation for them. Scenario 1-3 with enhanced graphics, hopefully that is true, since only 1 made it to the US.

I think that Sega should make a 2nd Dreamcast console, they could have new games and update the old ones from Genesis and other popular games.

Sammy makes the Atomiswave; an arcade board that is technologically somewhere in the Dreamcast and PS2 range, and Atomiswave titles have been published for consoles (Guilty Gear X on DC, GGXX, GG Isuka and Rumblefish on PS2, GGXX on Xbox).

How about Sammy makes a home version of the Atomiswave? Like how the Neo Geo AES is the home version of the arcade Neo Geo MVS. It would be a 2D beast.

Hell, Metal Slug, King of Fighters and other SNK properties have headed/are heading to the Atomiswave hardware anyway.it would be nice to think of it as a Neo Neo Geo

Id like to see a future Sega home system but i dont see it happening for years if at all.Sonic games as a whole still are one of my prefered platformers, they over all lacked the annoying as sin "jumping puzzles". As much as i like mario, i cant stand the jumping complexitys it throws at you, ironicly moving games into 3d normaly slows down gameplay and jumping becomes a bigger pain.Id love a new sonic game with less jumping more running and tails chasing sonic all the way through, even a remake in 3-d of sonic1-3 would be welcome.

If that is true, I would buy the PSP even if the battery lasted 10 minutes. No joke. I have played Scenario 1 and it rules. Hopefully they will do new voice acting, though. The voice acting was so terrible it made me want to vomit.

LOL, I so know what you mean...still they would have to since they would need new people to do the new ones and they would want all the characters to have the same voices.

That would be really stupid to use different voices for the same characters, however weirder things have happend!

Sonic was a great concept for the early 90's, but it never made the transition to 3-D. A few got torched by that. Mega Man was another. Laws of evolution, I suppose.

Any ways Sega and Nintendo have and will remain the Two best Game and console developers so if they merge look out Bill!

Heh Another vote here for Astal :D an awesome 2D platformer. It also has some of the best Sega music ever made this side of Panzer Dragoon. :)

Oh one other game tho is an awesome 2D platformer for Saturn, and you might not have ever heard of it. In japan its called Keio Yugekitai (in Europe its called Keio Flying Squadron 2; it didnt have a USA release :-(

Yes its the kinda sequel to the Sega CD game Keio Flying Squadron (Sega CD - an excellent 2D and CUTE horizontal shooter - which DID actually come out in the USA btw :)

I say "kinda sequel" since the second one on Saturn is MOSTLY a 2D platformer (tho it has some 2D shooting levels reminiscent of the first game ;)

Its also very cute/wacky with a great anime art style and humorous cut scenes.

Anyway, check that game out. I personally think Keio 2 is the BEST 2D Platformer on Saturn :)

(BTW, a note: Keio in its Japanese version has almost ALL its text in japanese. I personally bought the PAL release and it looks EXACTLY like the Japanee version (but with English everywhere :) on my US Sega Saturn (using the Pro Action Replay 4 in one PLus cart)

I don't know. So far this gen I haven't seen Sega release any amazing games. It seems like Sega is a company who's fit for the 2D world, but can't really work in the 3D one.

I would like it if Sega joined up with Nintendo and started making some classic-style 2D games for the Gameboy.
