Shaun of the Dead = awesome.
The original pressing of the Blue Monday 12" single that he throws and the Smiths video when he's switching channels are two small things that actually made me love it...however weird that is.

I really liked that there was an Amon Tobin, Aphex Twin, and a Ninja Tune poster in the backgrounds.
Details are so cool.

My favorite movie is Ned Kelly.
Some of my other favorites are Cold Mountain, the Order, the Four Feathers, the Chronicles of Riddick, any Lord of the Rings or Star Wars movies, the Alamo, and the Messenger: the Story of Joan of Arc.

All of you who said the LOTR movies....read the books, you'll see the movies for the utter garbage they are.

That's your opinion. Try being a little bit less ignorant.
I'm sure the books are great. But, an actual visual aid is much better.
Cofey
01-10-2005, 09:45 PM
^It's not ignorance....shit, it isn't my fault Peter Jackson tore the whole story apart piece by piece. No "visual aid" is ever better than the book, I thought that was common knowledge. It wasn't even a visual aid because it just barely followed the story at all.

I know people who are obsessed with LOTR and still love the movies.
Chill out. The movies are good.

Fine you spend 7 years in New Zealand with AAA actors, hundreds of millions of dollars, thousands of pieces of authentic armor, and several hundred technical staff members and make three 3 hour movies better than Jackson did.

Whoa whoa whoa, why are people getting so defensive? Have you read the books? If you have, I can't believe there is any possible way you'd be saying this. Maybe it's just me though. I'm sure that if I had knowledge of film-making I absolutely could make better LOTR movies. I think anybody here could, and for one simple reason: Peter Jackson made way too many changes to the story, the majority of which hurt the overall story instead of helping it.
To name a few:
He totally killed the point of Faramir by having him kidnap Frodo
He had Frodo actually OFFER THE RING to the Nazgul!
He had Frodo send Sam away in Mordor
He included that ridiculous side-story with Arwen, a very minor character in the actual story (although there was a whole section devoted to her and Aragorn in the appendices)
He totally killed the characters of Elrond and Theoden by making them out to be such obnoxious and stuck up characters....completely opposite of how they appear in the books
I can go on and on. My point is, I think the movies are terrible because they do such a huge dishonor to Tolkien's most famous work. I'm up for a *friendly* argument about it if anybody else is. But I think we should at least stop posting about it in this thread and get back on topic.

Stop being such a fucking purist. The movies worked and they worked damn well. The reason half that stuff isn't in there is because of time restraints. I'm sure Jackson would've loved to put everything in there but the movies would be 5-6 hours long each so stuff needed to be cut and reworked a little. If he didn't rework the story just a little the whole movie would just become one confusing mess.

Yeah, really. Tolkien, while a fine storyteller, does not know when to shut up and let the narrative do the talking sometimes. Given the circumstances, Jackson probably did better than anyone else could have.

Actually, the Haradrim (the guys on the giant elephants) are all black. Also, The guy that played the "head orc" Lurtz in the Fellowship and Sauron is Mexican I think.
Orcus, there's no need to get so angry at me. I didn't attack you, please stop attacking me. Like I said, if you want to continue the discussion in a civilized manner, I'd be more than happy too...in another thread. In fact I really really want to talk about it, maybe I can make some of you see where I'm coming from. But this is getting out of hand.
If you care to continue let me know and we can start a new thread.
