View Full Version : Bungie Stepping Up To Stop Halo 2 Cheaters
http://www.bungie.net/News/TopStory.aspx?story=weeklywhatsjan14
"Today, we are dropping the ban hammer on a significant number of cheaters. That number is thousands, not dozens or hundreds. Some of them will receive a short suspension of their service; others will be advised of more serious measures"
Kudos to Bungie.

pwned Goku.
I have to ask though, how exactly can you cheat on Halo 2?

My question exactly...
The only thing I've seen done is people that use the standby button on their modem. I'll be watching the flag and suddenly it will disappear before my eyes and they're 1/3rd of the way back to their base. But that's only happened with 1 or 2 people I've played against.

Nba Live 2005 Best Game Ever
there is standby which sandman just said and dummying which I don't care to explain. Either way people cheat all the time especially when you get higher up in the ranks and its mostly in clan matches. I have been standbyed a lot. hopefully this will get rid of all the cheaters.
It's good news that Bungie are doing something about the cheaters.

Did I say that? What made you think that? You guys make it out that the game is the end all be all of everything. Like it is the pinnacle of gaming when it is a 2-bit pc FPS copy.
Anyhow about the cheating that’s not a big deal. If you play this game that religiously to get upset then you need to go to a doctor.

Cheating in online games is a very big deal...

I agree. Heretic obviously just wants to find some way to put the game down, even if it's something GOOD they're doing.

Well, from what I've heard, Bungie keeps very detailed stats on teh games. They know the route you take with the flag, etc.
So that should stop people from doing that ghey Elite dummy glitch. Thak shit pisses me off.

Nice. I'm tired of cheaters. Now they need to fix the bugs that allow people to cheat.

In interviews with Bungie, they say that they won't, unless the bugs become a serious problem. When asked why, they said they they didn't want to risk fixing one thing, and breaking another.

Dont worry Heretic. It's just your typical teeny FPS fad. It'll pass.

^typical FPS fad. Mach im sorry but that was utter bull. While it is true that genes will peak (ie: fighting games in the 90's) It is safe to say that people enjoy FPS games online. If it wasn't Halo I'd be playin RCTW or Unreal.
Lets imagine for a second that nintendo made smash bros online. Now lets imagine that people cheat in the games, lowering your stats. Wouldn't you have the right to get alittle pissy, or glad when the probs get fixed?

FPS games peaked from the early 90's to the late 90's its all downhill from now.

I'd be willing to bet neither of you two have ever played the game. Thats the problem once you played one FPS you played them all.

I don't think the genre has peaked as of yet. although in 5 years i don't see the genre as a whole nearly as popular as it is now.
While it is true that alot of the FPS in solo-play do have a bit of the "been here done that" feel. That mostly comes from games like the most recent Goldeneye game that couldn't try something new even if it was given a larger team and a larger budget. While others ie: Halo, Unreal, and Battlefield keep things fresh and exciting. Before Halo you never saw vehicle jacking, Unreal tournement 2 for XBox is introducting a whole melee combat system that looks promising, and Battlefield well it just allows for so much fun that you really never get the same experience when online.

Heretic, Mach, kindly STFU. Halo is the Xbox. The Xbox is Halo. Even the Editors at EGM say that the black box would have been sunk without Halo.
And yes, the Halo 2 fad will pass, just like the Halo fad passed-- But not until Halo 3 comes out.

I played a trial for Halo PC. Maybe it was the fact that another studio redid the game but I really didn't think it was all that impressive.
On the topic though I'm really glad that game companies have been able to begin to end hackers and cheaters and crap. Sure they'll find other ways but at least its just a little bit more legit now.

Play one FPS, played em' all?
That's a ridiculous statement. It's almost as ridiculous as saying "played one RPG, played em' all." The only thing that is the same in these games is controls for the most part.

Play Half Life. Then play Serious Sam and tell me you've got the same gaming experience.

I stopped playing Halo 2 when HL 2 was released. Now that I have beat HL 2, I will put Halo 2 back in the box, but it will share time with ESPN College Hoops 2K5 and NFL 2K5.
