Who has read these books? I've heard awesome things about both of them and I'm currently on page 44 of Angels & Demons, which I started earlier today. I just basically know what you think of them. Also, have you read any other Dan Brown books?
Oh yes fine sir. I started off with Da Vinci Code, then read Angels and Demons then I later went on to read Deception Point and Digital Fortress. All superb books. Dan Brown is one of my favorite authors. Did you know that they are making a Da Vinci Code movie? Tom Hanks is going to be Robert Langdon. Dan Brown is also working on a new book that will be based in America exploring the secrets of Freemasonry. Should be out in the near future. I can't wait.

Jon, I also read DaVinci code first then read A & D. I'm just starting on Digital Fortress now.
Kevin, those are probably two of the best books I've ever read.
I'm not too thrilled with having Hanks play Langdon. In fact, I was pissed the first time I read that. They are also reportedly going to make Angels and Demons as well. They better not make these short ass movies. I want LOTR quality here.
Viper, face it... the movies are going probably to blow. Although, they may suprise us and it could be a big success. It's probably going to be one of those 'if you've read the book first, this movie will suck' kind of things. Kind of like the Harry Potter movies. The movies alone are good but if you are a reader of the books, they pale in comparison. I hope they do a good job though because these books are some of the best out there.

Even Newton persude a code in the torrah, but I believe if you are looking for somthing you will find it regardless if it is true or not. This is the same case.
I actually found a code through Moby Dick. It predicted many events that have happened. Code books should be treated purely as fanciful entertaining fiction. A naive person would treat them as fact without really looking into things.

I don't think any of us were taking the books as fact but much like Moby Dick, the books are fascinating to read.
Yes, they are just a good read. I don't believe half of what is in the Da Vinci Code but that doesn't change the fact that it's one of the most thought provoking and entertaining books out there.

Exactly. I admit, I checked out some of the paintings afterward too. Same with A & D. I went looking for the places that was written of.
Pro A.

With Ron Howard at the helm, it will be hard for the movie to flop.
Angels and Demons was the first one I read. A strong book even though it runs out of gas in the last fourth. The narrative makes you forget most of that. The Da Vinci Code is a masterfully written book that is more absorbing and more explosive than A&D. The book is on fifth gear from the very start. Very inventive.
Digital Fortress is an excellent debut with two very strong protagonists. Brown plays it pretty straight in this book, but there are a couple of pretty good plot twists and interesting supporting players.
Deception Point is well-written, but there are a few too many times when the narrative plods, but the second half is superb.
Dan Brown is no fluke. He is a tremendous writer.

I remember exactly what I did. I picked this book up while in Honolulu, Hawaii on vacation. I started reading it on the beach and read the entire book all the way through in one sitting. I actualy stopped at one point though to go find an internet cafe. I went down the street a little and found one and looked up all of the pictures, places, etc that were in the book. Compelling facts, but in the end this is still purely fiction. I wonder where Dan Brown himself stands when it comes to all of the 'controversial' material presented in his book. It would be interesting to find out. I've read a few interviews of his but I haven't seen that question posed. I need to investigate further.

They're not too expensive. What sucks though is that The Da Vinci Code is STILL ONLY in hard back, so that might be a little steeper. My mom jumps on every opportunity to buy me a book..
A&D just got to paperback. Should only be about 10 dollars max. If you go out and buy The Da Vinci Code anybody, buy the newest edition with all the pictures and stuff in it. You'll love it, I promise. I'm thinking about buying it even though I already own a hardcover.

So am I. I saw it last week and remembered how I looked up everything when I read it the first time. Man, that would have saved me some time.
No kidding. Time and effort that could have been spent reading the rest of the book. I had to stop and look at 'the last supper' halfway through the book though. I noticed alot of aditional stuff in the new picture book as well... such as the runes from the church at the end of the book, the la pyramida at the Louve, all 666 panes of glass and all. Ya, it's a real tight book. I may HAVE to buy it though cause I can't find my original copy. I think my bro stole it.

Also while these books were good reads they follow the basic thriller pattern and the love stories fell very tacked on in my mind. If you want a good read with this type of book i suggest The Dante Club By Matt Pearl it is like The da vinci code but set in the 1800s,very good book.

I finally finished A&D, it was very good.
I remember thinking that the camerlengo was the culprit from the beginning, but with the narration by him in certain chapters it leads you away from thinking that. Then a few pages before you actually find out it was him, I had the sudden realization and my heart almost skipped a beat.
I was like, "Holy shit... the camerlengo branded himself!"
It's not THE best book I've ever read, but it's very very good. Can't wait to read The Da Vinci Code.

You should have walked around with the book clearly visible in the Vatican. They would love that.

I read Digital Fortress last month and Dan Brown delivered another damn good book.
He rates up there with Jeffery Deaver to me in continuity of high quality.
He is also high on my list. Eagerly anticipating his next book. You'll find me at the bookstore at opening the day this book comes.
Anyways, I read A&D while I was in Hawaii. Fell in love and read the rest when I got back home.

The day it can be pre-ordered, he will have a sold copy. Sadly, so little info on the Masonic themed titled starring Langdon again is available.
