This doesnt look like the same Randy Johnson, it used to be the fastball that was his number one pitch and looked most imtimidating. Now he is throwing that slider and splitter a lot more and his fastball is not coming close to the hieghts of what it once was. He used to hit 98/99 now he is hitting 93/94. He is frankly not that imtimidating anymore and Arizona will need him to be to go anywhere in this division.

Not only that, but he's getting old so his velocity has taken a nosedive as well.

He has been sliping since 2001 and i have been saying to my friends that he will have a horrable year and so far looks like i will be right. thats if he keeps playing like that.

I think that the D-Backs should make him a closer. He'd do great if he only had to get three batters out!

No, i think thats a bad idea, a starter usually need to throw couple of pitches to get warmed up, and a power pitcher usually needs to get 1 or 2 outs before he gets feel for the ball and the strike zone. thats why guys like wood and prior get better as the game goes on.

Yeah cubsfan is right. I know from experiance. I am always getting better as the game goes on and it does take me awhile to feel comfortable on the mound

There are talks that he may be traded to the Yankees before the July 31st deadline.

He's still a good pitcher...mabye it'll take him a while to warm up throughout the season.

When and where did you hear that. I never knew that. but if the yankees are going after anyone it should be C.C. Sabathia. Now that guy is a fricken beast.

There are talks about any and everyone going to the Yankees before the deadline.

However, the same man who said Miguel Tejada was going to Seattle said this........

...........Peter Gammons.

Randy Johnson pitched a great game tonight, he pitched a complete game shutout giving up 0 runs on two hits and struck out 8. RJ went back to his old wind up with the glove in front of the face. D-Backs won 5-0 :D

I like that wind up a lot better than whatever the hell he was doing before. Watched him hit 94 a couple of times late in the game. Always good to see from a 40 year old. He looked very good last night, plus I liked the double :D . THe only issue I have is that he doesnt get hurt or show his age by wearing down later in the year. Heard rumors of him haded to Baltimore, but I doubt that. Arizona can not afford to lose him. I'll put it simply he does well, Arizona will do well, he is basically the leader of that team, even though he is a quiet guy.

Randy Johnson has been pitching in the league for a while, a lot of players know how he pitches. let's just hope he gets back on track

the D-Backs need him, but if they can get some good players for him, hes gone

I think his height is working against him too. Can't be easy being that tall and unflexible having to support that tender knee.

Well, even if this thread was made before the Perfect Game, the original poster is right. The fastball isnt his #1 pitch anymore, and he has lost velocity, but thats because injury and age have caught up to him. Now, hes finding different ways to fool hitters, and you have to respect him more for that, its hard to pitch one way for 20 years, and then alter it when you're 40.

David Cone threw a perfect game.

Doesn't mean he still didn't start to stuck.
