VERY good pick up by Houston, and Oakland gets a closer out of it. Discuss...

All sides did well in this deal. Oakland filled the big void on their team with someone who could be one of the most dominant closers in baseball. Houston gets a terrific outfielder, that is such a deadly lineup. Kansas City got some very nice prospects, good deal all around.

this deal seems like a steal for Houston and OAK but this is probably one of those deals like when HOU got R. Johnson. Looks huge now but in a few years when the guys playing elsewhere it wont be as big.

Oakland gets the closer they've needed and Houston builds for the future (if they plan on resigning Beltran, that is), but is left with the worst closer in the game, Brad Lidge.

I think this is a great move by the A's. Right now, our bullpen sucks and Rhodes is not fit to be a closer. Hopefully now, we can use Rhodes as a middle reliever, which is what he is, and take some pressure off of the bullpen (Mecir, Rincon etc.)

I don't get this for Houston. They already have Berkman, Biggio, Kent and Bagwell. I don't see why they need another offensive guy.

Wood pitched in thee majors last year for the A's, and did what you'd expect from a rookie. He pitched well in long relief, and will always be remembered by me for his "kick save" that helped the A's win against Boston the day Mulder went down. Teahan is very close to major league ready, and was one of the original solutions after Chavez got hurt. I don't know anything about Buck.

I think this is a great deal for the teams not getting the "big player" involved.

The last team I suspected to get Beltran was Houston, and now they have him. Oh well. I'm not worried about them. Craig Biggio wasn't cutting it at CF, so they have to pull a Yankee and Diamondback type of move and screw Ensberg's development by moving Kent to 3B, Biggio back to 2B, and Beltran to CF. Oakland didn't get much out of this trade, as Dotel is nothing more than an excellent setup man. Kansas City got smoked in this trade, but they seem to think David DeJesus is Jesus.
