For quite a few years it's been far from what the old-school rules had laid out. Why doesn't baseball enforce someting that is so easy to do?? Are they afraid of the pitchers taking over again driving run production down?? Absolutely nothing would drive the fans away faster than seeing the almighty homerun all but disappear. Economics seems to say the small strike zone is here to stay so why don't they just make it official?? None would be surprised.

Why do this though.

Do you mean why expand it (back) or why not just make it official?? I just think one or the other would make sense. But baseball is so steeped in tradition that, should they announce what we all know, the purists would freak. I just find it a bit of a slap/face that the original strike zone has been shrunk to about 1/3 of what it was yet it just seems to be ignored. Does anybody know what the strike zone is for college ball etc?? I'm curious to know if they've adopted the smaller zone or if they still use the original one.

I think the first thing they need to do are to get umps who know the strike zone. They make too many bad calls... but I do think it should be expanded where calls would be more visibly obvious.
