In other news the Mets have traded David Wright for Vinny Castilla!

MY RANT:
After being able to take it all in and get some rest, I think I've found myself completely on the other side of the spectrum. We saw our Mets world crumble within a window of about 5 minutes; Ty Wigginton, Matt Peterson, Justin Huber, Scott Kazmir and Jose Diaz all gone.

Just the latest in a long line of Mets screw ups, right? But, honestly, when was the last time the Mets were actually burned in an organizational decision? Sure Burnitz, Alomar and Vaughn all busted horribly, but so did the guys we gave up. The Mets were stupid for not signing Juan Gonzalez, weren't they? Most of us don't want A-Rod with his rediculous contract demands, and we've got that Reyes kid that'll be playing SS for us for a while.

The most puzzling move here is Justin Huber to the KC Royals for some waiver claim. I don't get it, hope Benson and Zambrano will help me get it.

The Organization has just decided it will go not go in the direction it seemed to go in last year. What we'll see from here on is a mixture of 2000 and 1986. We've got Wright and Reyes as the two biggest homegrown pieces to the team. Everybody else added around them (Floyd, Piazza, Cameron, Hidalgo, Piazza, Leiter, Glavine, Trachsel), while not homegrown, are entrenched as Mets and sort of have that homegrown feeling right now (that is OUR player).

As far as the farm system goes; Humber could make it to the rotation after 2005 or 2006, to take Leiter's place, Petit somehwat further down the line to possibly take over for Glavine or Trachsel. Milledge still has a chance to take over for Cameron when his contract is up, and there are still the midlevel prospects in between. Kazmir and Peterson and the like really didn't have a spot on the team at least through next season (when they likely would have been ready).

Apparently, the Mets see very big things for Zambrano and Benson. Benson has very good makeup (has shown it recently), and hopefully we can get a lot out of him. Just looking at Zambrano, you definitely notice that if he can get over those control issues (Ricky has already noticed a few things he can do to help right away), he can be a stud pitcher. The Mets hold a potential powerhouse rotation if they can get Benson and Zambrano playing to their potential.

The Mets see themselves in contention, so that likely means being more agressive in the free agent market. Maybe we'll see Martinez here if Leiter can't pitch beyond 2004. Maybe Delgado will be in the lineup next year. Who knows?

It's okay people, we had inside information that Kazmir had character and durability problems, so we decided to be nice and take Victor Zambrano instead of Carlos Beltran or Alfonso Soriano. But that's only because we are such nice guys!

Denial, it's not just a river in Egypt.

Even though that I'm not really a Met fan, i wish them the best of luck because with two star pitchers in their staff, they have a chance at the wildcard race if they show everyone what they got to show everyone with Hidalgo, Zambrano, Castilla, Reyes, Garcia, Benson and everyone else that they can make the wildcard race because they have very good players that can take them all they way to the Playoffs.

A big reason for Vambrano's relative success is his control problems. Batters can't find a pattern in his pitching and therefore can't sit on a pitch.
