Its confirmed as long as Kris Benson passes a physical he will be with the New York Mets again this year only from the start of the season. The deal is a three-year 22.5 million contract. He gets a 2.5 million signing bonus and there is a club option in 2008 for 7.5 million or a .5 million buyout. The contract can be 29.5 million over 4 seasons if the option is excercised.

I don't think Benson is worth that much maybe 5 million a year but not 7-8. I have also heard that the Mets are close to resigning Al Lieter even since his contract wasn't excercised but the contract would be for 5 million or so for one year about I heard.

I saw the title and thought that he quit, but then I figured out that resigns was supposed to be re-signs. He is definately not worth that much for one year, but he is worth about 4-5 million a year.

They had to. If they didn't resign Benson, they would look like fools because then it would look like they gave up Scott Kazmir for spare parts.

Magus no, they gave up Kazmir to get Victor Zambrano. But yes they would look like idiots for getting him to "make a run" at the playoffs last year and then doing so bad. ALso he is not worth that money at all.

3 years, 22.5 Million for Benson? I know pitching is hard to get, but some time you have draw a line. This is almost as bad as the Castilla signing in Washington...

not a good move at all. there are much better options if they are willing to spend that much money, and i dont think benson is really an ace
