I was just wondering cause I always hear how people think that Lebron should have picked a different number instead of 23, because well if he becomes great wouldnt you want your own number reconized, instead of a guy who is pretty much the greatest player in history. so would you have picked 23 if you were Lebron, or pick your own number?

I would have kept the same number, like he did.

I would keep it. Why not be compared with one of the greatest players in NBA history?

I think keep it. He probably was #23 because of Michael Jordan. (me personally, if I was in the NBA i would probably be either #31 cause of reggie miller, #25 or #5 since I like those numbers)

because hes nowhere near jordan comparisons. you cant compare anyone jordan's, bird's, magic's and such.

not yet.. not ever. jordan is probably the greatest player EVER. lebron can dunk and jump.. hes not that good of a shooter and he gets good stats because he doesnt have nothing around him to score. he wouldnt be getting 30+ a night if he had another scorer or two on the team.

I agree, Jordan is the greatest ever. But LeBron is 19. His jumper is coming along. He is a very good rebounder, and will be a better rebounder than MJ ever was. He has incredible vision. He is the most athletic player in the NBA. He's one of the top 10, maybe top 5 players in the NBA right now, and he's 19 years old.
If he does not get injured/bored, and keeps developing like he has been, he will be the best ever.

Well of course it will be, but LJ has plenty of time.

Why work on the jumper in HS if all you could do is dribble around people and dunk?

Magic Johnson is better than Jordan! :) James could be better than Jordan, if he gets rings, which won't happen anytime soon.

It's his choice. Maybe he had the number never becasue of Jordan! Maybe he had his own reason!

i think that taking 23 did increase the number of comparisons to jordan, and there is a possibility that he will be better than jordan. it was lebron's decision what number to take, just like it would be yours if you made it. The other comparison I see happening is the comparison to Dan Marino, the best players in their sports to never win a title.

I would have picked 30 b/c thats my fav # but in LeBron's case, I would have kept #23

because hes nowhere near jordan comparisons.
At 19 years old, he's well on his way.

Jordan wasn't a good shooter or defender when he came in the league. Lebron at 19 could easily become a good defender and shooter later in his career. Statwise, he could mirror Jordan, but if he can get rings is the question.
As for his number, I don't think it should be a big deal. A lot wear number 23 to honor Jordan, or 32 for Johnson. It really doesn't matter to me.

Getting a guy that has the enormous talent of Scottie Pippen would ehlp get some rings. Not even Michael won a title with no help.

idn cause there is a pro and con to each. the pro to taken it is that you are basically tellin everyone:im good, and you are being compared to an amazing legend. then, on the other side, if u get famous, you gotta share the number. i still think keepin it was good, though.

I would keep the same number. I mean maybe he could switch up the numbers for 32 but then it would be Magic Johnson so no point. Just keep it like it is.

he definitely should have kept 23. it was his number throughout high school. if he has any kind of personal tie to the number, even if it is that its jordans number and jordan is his idol, he should keep the number hes always worn

Why does the number matter? It is how you play the game that matters.

all he can do is jump and dunk.. so what makes him so good.

I'm ASSuming you don't watch Cavs games. He is more than just a dunker, he is a good ball handler and passer, and a good rebounder. With 6 assists and 7 rebounds a game, as well as 25 points a game. He also shoots 50% from the field, so he improved his shooting as well.

He's a great passer, and a good rebounder, with a decent jump shot. And he is 19 years old.
