Mets have talked to Red Sox about a deal that would send Manny Ramirez for Cliff Floyd and Kaz Matsui.
As a Red Sox fan i hope this doesnt happen and they just sign Edgar Renteria.

Theo Epstein is too smart to do this deal.

A Red Sox official said no one on the Red Sox is untradable, and they want to fill SS void as soon as possible.

Why, is Cabrera gone yet?
And I know I've said something to this effect, but we need to fill Pedro's void.

Floyd and Matsui would definately fall short in replacing Manny's bat. Although it would give them a little extra financial room. I hope it doesn't happen. The Mets side of New York seems to be a grave yard for good hitters. Let's see. Mo Vaughn, Mike Piazza is not longer good, Cliff Floyd, Matt Lawton (his struggles began when he joined the Mets) and Robbie Alomar is another big one. I'm sure I could think of others.

Mets also just signed Pedro Martinez, and if Matsui is gone Cabrera enters.

If this trade happens, it would be pretty stupid on the Red Sox part. It's not like there having money problems...

If they are going to get a shortstop why not get a good one. Matsui was a disappointment last year.

Manny can't field worth a crap. He is a good hitter, but I think that this trade will be a decent one for them. Matsui will most likely develop into a good player. It took Hideki a year to get it together, and he finally did good in the last half of last season. I think Kaz will do something similar and come around either this year or next year. Also, this gives them room to sign someone else to help fill the gap that will be created with the loss of Manny's bat.

Manny isn't THAT bad of a fielder. He makes alot of catches some outfielders can't make, it's that just that he looks horrible doing it. Even if he does really suck at defense he's on of the top hitters in the AL. And if the trade does happen and the Red Sox go out and sign another bat, who is going to go on the bench? Overall this is a terrible deal for the Red Sox. They need a SS, but not that bad.

You've got to consider the team Hideki is on. I would like to see what his numbers would have been the last 2 years if he hadn't been on the offense laiden Yankees team. Put Kaz on the Yanks and he could drive in 100. Matsui could be good but he isn't worth Ramirez and Floyd doesn't fill the gap Manny would leave.

I heard a rumor that Seattle would send Randy Winn to the Mets for Matsui. :)
