A.J was placed on waivers after the signing of Matheny. A.J led all NL catchers in RBIS last year but hit a career low

News
The Giants released catcher A.J. Pierzynski on Wednesday. The team had wanted to designate him for assignment so they could talk to other team about a possible trade but decide to do him a favor and waive him so he could enter the free agent market, according to the San Francisco Chronicle. Pierzynski was acquired last season from the Twins and hit .272 with 11 home runs and 77 RBI.

The Giants have no need for Pierzynski after signing Mike Matheny, who is a significantly better defensive catcher and will be the team's starter in 2005. A.J. is coming off a year where he hit a career-low .272, but led all National League catchers in RBI last season.

Dang, might have been a good pick up for the Rays if they hadn't traded for Cash.
