View Full Version : For those of you who thought Vick's extension was ridiculous...

...Check out what the 29-year old Ray Lewis is asking for!

In the wake of Michael Vick's record contract last week, Ravens middle linebacker Ray Lewis was telling people in the locker room that it will now take a $50 million signing bonus to get him to agree to an extension.

Yes he is the best LB the NFL has seen since Lawrence Taylor, but at 29 years old, and the fact that he's a LB alone, he doesn't warrant that ridiculous amount of money.

Here's the link (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/columns/story?columnist=pasquarelli_len&page=/morning/week16). It's on the right-hand side, in the gray text.

I'd be happy with $250K/year... how the hell can you even spend $50 million?

alot of people say that but you wouldnt actually take it if you could make 50 million. you have to remember there arent just your own expenses now. you would have a nice portion taken away by your agent, you would pay alot in taxes, and i doubt you would want to be driving around a bad car, or live in a bad home. i mean, lets just say you were a star linebacker in the nfl. would you want to live in an average neighborhood?? no, you would live in a rich neighborhood not only because you could, but for protection as well. would you send your kids to public schools? no. plus im sure if you drove up to practice in a normal car, your teammates would abuse you all day. w.e, thats not the issue here.

about lewis, thats a bit much, but he is the best linebacker in the nfl, so he should get a nice chunk

at BEST lewis should get around 12 million. He needs to realize he's a linebacker.

Also, oh poor Ray, he would only have 25 million dollars. How's he going to survive!?

Actually to tell you the truth I wouldn't give two damns about living in a big house. The 300K house i live in now would be fine for me. I mean if I had alot of money to spend on a house theres no doubt i would but if I didn't have a huge bank account I would settle for less if I had to.

My dad makes 200K a year and he has a nice $350K - $400K house, a $40k BMW, a $20K SUV & a $15K - $20K motorcycle, two $3000 TV's, a $1500 computer. Haha... that's MORE then what I would ever buy. And everything is completly paid off except for the house (like 30% paid) and the TV (33% paid).

People didn't realize the repurcusions of Manning's contract. Once a price blitz like this is started, it is hard to stop.

I really think Vick's contract isn't all that rediculous considering Vick is the only reason the Falcons can win. Ray Lewis may be the best at his position but he in no ways warrents a $50 mil bonus and isn't worth it either.

It doesn't matter what he wants. All they have to do is franchise him and they'll only have to pay a certain percentage more than last season.

Yes, but if I'm not mistaken, franchise tags only work for 1 year, and they tagged Chris McAllister this past year.

Hell I think 20 Dollars is alot of money ;) Some contracts in the NFL are starting to get out of hand. The league minimum for a Practice Squad player is like 650k/yr I believe. I would have no problem being on a practice squad making 1/2 a million dollars + for doing absolutely nothing.
