The Knicks and Timberwolves have had talks recently, centering around a trade of Kurt Thomas for Wally Szczerbiak.
The NY Daily News reports that Minnesota is reluctant agree to the deal. The teams have been trying to get Toronto involved as a third club in a deal for Szczerbiak.
If the Knicks acquired Szczerbiak, they likely would have to make another deal for a power forward, unless they are confident that Michael Sweetney and Vin Baker can adequately replace Kurt Thomas.

"Vin Baker...adequately replace..."
Does not compute.

There's talk the Raptors could become the 3rd party in the deal, dealing SG Jalen Rose to the Knicks for SG Penny Hardaway.

Its an exchange of huge contract no one else wants, none of these players can help out the other team. Wally is just as soft as Tim Thomas, and Rose isn't much better than Hardaway for the Knicks. Kurt Thomas can't play center in the West, and the Wolves already have Griffin so I don't see a need for a backup power foward. And for the Raptors, Penny is washed up. All of them would lose something, and gain nothing but huge contracts.

Indeed. I would rather the Raptors keep Jalen than get Penny Hardaway, who hasn't a good season since he was in Orlando. *blush*

I don't see why the Knicks need Wally....Tim Thomas is no worse, and is at least not injury prone like Wally. Kurt Thomas can rebound, and they would have the benefit of having both Vin Baker and Sweetney off the bench.
