Lowe said from his home in Fort Myers, Fla., he wasn't sure if a deal had been finalized, but he planned to be in Los Angeles on Monday.

"I'm flying to L.A. tomorrow morning, that is all I know," the 31-year-old right-hander said. "I think I'm taking a physical tomorrow."

A physical would be the final step before Lowe and the Dodgers complete a four-year deal worth about $36 million.

Lowe was 14-12 with a 5.42 ERA in 33 starts with Boston last season. But he was 3-0 with a 1.86 ERA in four games during the postseason, three of them starts. He was the winner in the final game of all three postseason series - against the Angels, Yankees and Cardinals - as the Red Sox won their first World Series in 86 years.

He has a 72-59 career record with 85 saves.

His agent is Scott Boras, whose highest-profile client, Carlos Beltran, was close to a deal with the New York Mets on Sunday.

The Dodgers are holding a news conference Monday, where left-hander Odalis Perez will speak publicly for the first time since agreeing to terms of a three-year, $24 million contract late last week to remain with the team.

Lowe said he would not be at the news conference.

The Dodgers needed to complete a deal that would send outfielder Shawn Green to Arizona before signing Lowe. That deal took a major step toward being finalized Sunday night when the Diamondbacks and Green reached an agreement in principle on a three-year, $32 million contract.

Green will come to Phoenix for a physical on Monday, Diamondbacks general partner Ken Kendrick said.

That will be pretty nice rotation for the Dodgers.
Ishii, Lowe, Jackson, Penny and whoever else they will have.
Definate contenders in the NL West if they can get 1 or 2 more bats for the lineup.

My question is, how can he expect to win with no offense, when he cant even win with the run support of the Red Sox? Red Sox offense is one of the best around, along with Yankees and Cardinals. Whats he gunna do with the Dodgers who cant seem to put together runs and now have lost a big bat in Green? He hasnt had a good season in 3 years or so(just came out of nowhere like beltran in the playoffs), and I dont really expect to see any different this year.

I dont know the stats last season but he was having a bad year until the Sox traded away Nomar and brought in Mientkiewicz and Cabrera greatly solidifying the defense. If he has solid D behind him and the Dodgers can squeeze out a few runs he can win in LA.

Not if he gives up over 5 a game lol.

last year: 14-12 5.42 ERA, 182.2 IP, 110 ER(138 runs allowed total)
(edit)2003: good record with 17-7 but 4.47 ERA in 203.1 IP with 101 ER(113 runs allowed total)...

his only real good upside to me is hes more of a ground ball pitcher with that sinker and curve in his repitiore of pitches, and he doesnt give up many homers.. 2004 he gave up 15 and 2003 he gave up 17.

Heh. Like I said.. he had one or two good years as a starter(21-8 season with ERA well under 3, and another season comparable to that).. but since then.. nothing.

Yeah, he was a closer, then they tried him as a SP and he did great (20+ wins, 2-3 ERA), then he had an okay year after that, he's been crap since then. His only good signs were his postseason. By the 3rd-4th year of his contract, I expect him to be pretty much done (like Denny Neagle, Mike Hampton, Darren Dreifort, Chan Ho Park, etc.)

Hes pretty much done already anyway. I dont know how he did what he did in the postseason.. but he did it. Im just glad hes out of here now. Now we have an even better rotation then before and saved a lot of money by letting Petey's ass go.. finally. Theo said he IS NOT going after Delgado which I dont know why he wouldnt and then trade millar for some good prospects we need. But oh well.. the team is pretty much set for 2005 but Theos always up to listening to offers.
