Newsday (Scroll Down): "The Yankees and Rey Sanchez are closing in on one-year, $600,000 contract."
That doesn't make me, a Yankee fan, very happy. Where are they going to put him? ???

Utility infielder. The guy isn't capable of starting anymore and I personally don't think he ever was. I don't even know that they need backup infielder.

They don't. Arod, Doesn't need one but there's guys in the minors who are good if he got hurt. Jeter, hmmmm, I think there's a guy that plays 3B that could play there, Womack, maybe, Tino, heh he has Giambi *rollyeyes
They could find someone better than him though. Cairo is gone right?

actually a pretty good move. they are paying him like nothing, and even though he cant start, he wouldnt be bad once in a while as a utility. cairo and wilson left, and they only brought in womack, so they didnt have a backup infielder on the team.

It's finalized pretty much.
The New York Yankees added a backup infielder, agreeing to a $600,000, one-year contract with Rey Sanchez.
Sanchez's deal is subject to the 14-year veteran passing a physical and the finalization of contract language.

I'd be surprised if he hit above .200, seems as though he's been going from team to team, AAA to majors.
3B - A-Rod
SS - Jeter
2B - Womack
1B - Tino/Giambi
2B/3B - Andy Phillips (Hit 30 HRs, .300 in AAA in 02, 04 - injured for 2003 season)
IF - Enrique Wilson
IF - Rey Sanchez
That's a pretty good Infield

Enrique Wilson is gone.... I don't know if Phillips will be in the MLB this year, he might stay in AAA Columbus for most of the season. It all depends on who gets hurt, what positions need to be filled, etc.

Where'd Wilson go?

I guess the Sanchez signing isn't all that bad. They clearly need a utility infielder and I doubt the middle infield is going to miss too many games barring injury.

Not a bad move, but Rey Sanchez should be strictly for utility-purposes and utility-purposes only. :)

He got mad at the management during the playoffs and asked them to trade him, not sign him or release him, something that said he was off the team. It's a shame, he was one of the best UTILITY infielders, he would start on sometimes IMO.

Thats not bad for them to fill a vacancy, but not exactly good either heh.
