Bill Gates, Microsoft chairman and chief software architect, announced in a speech at the RSA Security conference in San Francisco that new test version of Internet Explorer 7 is to be launched in summer.

Traditionally new versions of Microsoft browser appear with the new versions of Windows. IE 7 was not an exception being expected in 2006 together with Longhorn operating system. But growing demands to the internet security have forced Software giant to initiate an early release of the Program.

"There is only one thing standing in the way of realizing the potential of internet infrastructure: the concerns over trustworthy computing," Bill Gates said at the conference. "This is the top priority for Microsoft, and it will remain our top priority."

According to Microsoft the new version will be more protected from the bugs that make its 6th Explorer vulnerable to the attacks of Web criminals. Gates said IE 7 is to contain protection against viruses, spyware and account scams.

In addition to a weak protection, it is hard competition with such strong rivals as Firefox and Opera that also pushes Microsoft to speed up the release of the new version of Internet Explorer. Nevertheless Internet Explorer still dominates with the market share of about 90%.

It is said that Web Search giant Google also plans to produce its own Firefox-based browser.

Good news. Hopefully M$ implements the tab browsing. I don't really use Mozilla too much.

I remember awhile ago, when they were giving screens of long horn, the IE on it was ugly as hell. It was dark grey and had a gaint back button. Then a long adress bar. Then on the bottom bar, in small icons, were the reshfresh, stop, etc, The menu items like file, edit, etc, then a drop down for pop up blocking.

It was the ugliest thing ever. I'm sure this one will be different. I'm also waiting for what MS is going to rename features that have been around forever and brand them as grand innovations. Multi Window Surfing?

Competition brings better products. Hopefully you wont have to activate, register, and kiss MS's ass to use it.

I'll be interested in what Microsoft comes up with. I currently use Safari on my Macs, and Firefox on my Windows PC. The current version of IE can't hold a candle to those two browsers. I agree that competition is a great thing, and I'll be waiting on more information about IE 7 for Windows.

... firefox r teh 1337 browser.

Ever since I started using firefox i've never had a problem with a pop-up. period. i used IE once and that was to download firefox. in the clicks it took to get to where i could download it (off download.com) i had 4 or 5 pop-ups on my computer (i have no spyware btw. it was first time i used internet since recovering my comp to factory status.

firefox is the best browser i've found. haven't used opera. sorries but why change when you've already got the best?

Hmmm, the new IE will have to be pretty impressive to get me away from Firefox.

If I reach my goal of breaking dependancy on Windows completely, going back to IE won't even be an option. Even if it was, I wouldn't consider it.
