Today, at Konami's European Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater launch event, Hideo Kojima, producer of the MGS games, revealed that Metal Gear Solid 4 is being planned for next-generation consoles. While he didn't say what console/s it will be on, he did give some info about the game itself.

MGS4 will be the beginning of a new series/plotline featuring Solid Snake. Speaking about the concept of MGS4, Kojima said that there will be "no place to hide." He also joked that there will be "no place for Hideo." He will be stepping out of the main spotlight and assuming the role of executive producer. Ken-Ichiro Imaizumi will be taking the reins as the producer.

"We'll be taking it [MGS 4] to the next-gen and we want to feature a fresh, intriguing storyline and gameplay plus captivating graphics and more features while remaining true to the core of the MGS series - remaining Solid. We hope you'll enjoy," said Imaizumi at the launch event today.

We'll be sure to let you know when we hear any further details on Konami's next MGS offering.

Sounds like they are trying to copy Capcom with RE4. Going in a new direction.

One game doesn't decide a console.

I hope they make this one like the first two, and not too radical like they were with Snake Eater.

I always assumed it would be no more Metal Gear helmed by Hideo. (Which seems correct.) There's no way that they'll halt the Metal Gear Solid series.

not to get anti-nintendo or anything, becuase i was once hardcore nintendo-fan-boy-ish during the n64 days (i didnt understand why the ps was doing better than a system that has better games and better graphics) But now im more of a casual player...
MGS4 will probably go on the system that is doing the best, or getting the best suport....so the way im thinkin is its not one good game for a system. (becuase its getting support i.e. if it goes to xb2, i will be open to xb exclusives, ifi t goes to ps3 i wil be open to ps3 exclusives, if it goes to revolution, ill have revolution exclusives) I didnt buy xbox for halo, becuase i do play PC FPS which are all far superior to halo 1 & 2 (half life 2 *ahem*). Xbox just attracted me, and trust me, i used to hate the damn thing, gay controllers, big ass system, no good games, but then it changed...xbox live alone has been worth the purchase, there's finally some good games on the freakin thing. The way i look at it is this: I bought my gamecube for Zelda. I didnt care about mario or re4 at that time. Zelda. I will more than likely buy nintndo's next console if it does good. and has a good zelda. But im still skeptical, even though we kno nothing yet. Even though im not nintendo-fan-boy-ish anymore, i still want nintendo to do good, but now i look at which console will benfit me more these days. In my case, xbox. Got no time on my hands to play vids (still havnt beaten re4 :| and its like my fav game at the moment).
