In the fast 2 weeks or so I haven't been able to move anything into my recycle bin to hold for a bit in case I change my mind and don't want to delete it. When I deleted something it just goes away without going to the bin, there is an option to make this happen but it isn't selected also I raised the limit on the amount the bin can hold just to see if maybe that helped but it didn't. Does anyone know what the problem could be?

if you keep hold of shift and delete things then they dont go to the Recycle Bin, also if your deleting them out of things like Kazaa

Right click the Recycle bin, goto properties, uncheck Do not move files to the Recycle Bin, Remove files immediately when deleted.

Is it global settings or independent drives?

Global

Start Menu
Run
Type Regedit

follow the below path:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Explorer\BitBucket]

On the right there will be a thing called NukeOnDelete.

The value of NukeOnDelete should be 0 if you want to use the Recycle Bin

If it is set to 1 Double click on NukeOnDelete, a window will come up, click Decimal, change Value date: to 0, click ok, close regedit, then restart your computer or logout.

If that doesn't work let us know.

By chance, did you install a second harddrive recently?

Solution #1

Assuming you are using windows xp, please again right-click on the recycle bin and go to properties. Where is shows a slide bar to set the amount fo disk space used, move it to "0%" and then click on the button to "Not move files to the recycle bin" then click the "APPLY" button. After that, shut down and restart your system then go back to recycle bin properties and re-enable it by moving the slide bar to 10% and clicking the box to move files to the recycle bin. Hit apply, then attempt to delete somthing.

Solution #2

Find a file you do not like, and delete it. DO NOT OPEN THE RECYCLE BIN, but rather right-click on it and click on "Empty Recycle bin" from the right click menu.

Rstart your computer.

Then delete a file and see if it appears in the bin.

Solution #3

It seems that the recycle bin sometimes has a name problem. Please make not the the following.

If you know if your harddrive is fat 32 or NTFS, do not do the following. To find out, double click on "My computer", then right click on the hard disk and select properties. In the general tab of the harddisk, look for the writting that states "File system". It will be NTFS or Fat32.

After you have that information, try the following:

Click on start/ run/ then type "Cmd" and hit enter.

In the command prompt screen try the following depending on your file system:

rd /s c:\recycled [If you are running FAT 32]

or

rd /s c:\recycler [If you are running on NTFS]

Sometime the recycle bin needs reminded what it its name is....

Well, thats all for now. Give them a try.
