View Full Version : Shadow the Hedgehog Revealed

Late Tuesday night, the Metreon unveiled its new Walk of Game. Sega's popular Sonic the Hedgehog was one of the 2005 inductees, which should be nice to hear for Sonic fans.

Sega surprised everyone (shocked, even) by showing a trailer for a new platformer called Shadow the Hedgehog, starring, you guessed it, Sonic's long-time rival - Shadow. The shocking thing about this is what Shadow is doing - after a series of clips from previous Sonic games, celebratings the series's great history, Shadow walks up to the screen, pulls out a pistol, and shoots it. Yep, Shadow's now toting realistic guns in this game. Check out the screengrabs I took from the trailer below to see (or better yet, download and watch the trailer!).

Apparently, Sega wants to head in a new direction, with a darker, gritter game (seems to be the trend lately, doesn't it?). Shadow will now use guns to take out enemies, in a world that looks graphically similar to Sonic's most recent console entries (the Sonic Adventure and Sonic Heroes games). Besides the guns and explosions, it looks like Shadow the Hedgehog will feature some more traditional Sonic elements like fast running, collecting coins, and of course, platforming. One new move is Shadow's freeze jump, by which he can jump into the air, hang suspended, and spin around, shooting enemies all the while.

Sega hasn't announced what platforms Shadow the Hedgehog will be released on. GameCube has seen the most Sonic game releases, but it wouldn't be surprising for this to be released for all three major consoles.

Very interesting but including guns? I know for sure this wont be on any Nintendo systems.

Though just by looking at the pictures it looks to be a better game than any Sonic game ever. I just hope they fixed or fix the problems with camera angles!

All I can say is ............ why?

Shadow in is own game is an awsome idea, but with guns? I'm still alittle skeptical about it, but I still check the game out regardless.

This game will certainly come out for Gamecube, Sega learned there leason about bringing it out to other systems, the PS2 can't handle Sonic games (try to play Heroes on it). Plus they already said they were working on a Gamecube exclusive Sonic game anyway.

I don't see the necessity for the gun. I feel it's just an attempt to make the casuals buy it.

Sega seems to be getting desperate, andthis proves it.

They didn't make Sonic Adventure 3 for this? Oh well, like I said before, hopefully (and that's a BIG hope) the game will be atleast decent and will continue the Adventure/Heroes storyline and not just make up some bullshit story like Sonic Battle.

Odds are you'll see a bullshit story. Sega doesn't seem to be able to make a good story anymore.

I just watched the trailer and I have to say.........DAMN!

What the hell Sega? The actual gameplay seems like it will be cool/different, but the graphics look like you just took Heroes, scrapped out everyone else, and handed Shadow a gun. A graphic change, and a better styled gun would make this game MUCH better.

I heard over at the SEGA boards that this game would come out for sure Gamecube and maybe Xbox, certainly no PS2. They also said this ISN'T the Gamecube Exclusive Sonic game they have been talking about (still hopes for Sonic Adventure 3) but that wasn't official. Anyway, if this is the new direction they are taking with Sonic, what a we going to expect of Phantasy Star Universe?

Wouldn't Metal Sonic using a gun been better and more realistic then Shadow using a gun?

Why Sega, Why?

Is it just me or does someone else want Sega to make me a Sonic 4, with the best 2D graphics ever and an amazing sense of speed and to use all of the Cubes 1.5 gigs to have like a billion levels. Seriously, is that too much to ask? Also, i dont want a billion characters, just Sonic, Knuckles, Tails, and Robotnick.

^That's starting to get old. In reality, they are never, NEVER are going to make another 2D Sonic game on a home console, end of story. It would be nice, but it's never going to happen.

Am I the only one that actually enjoyed the 3D Sonic games?

The trailer had a pattern. It starts off with the great games from Sonic The Hedgehog through Sonic Adventure, and then there's SA2 which sucks, then Sonic Heroes, which sucks more, then Shadow the Hedgehog. While his game is almost inevitably going to be crap, it will be totally edgy and x-treme, yo! To the max!

What's next? Grand Theft Nights? Phantasy Star Online Starring Ludacris? ARGH!

I really don't think this game will be too bad, it will certainly be "interesting", if not canceled. But I actually enjoyed SA2 and SH, they certainly weren't the best in the series, but I still liked them.

Just look at him... he doesn't look right. A Sonic character should just not have a gun... especially considering that he shouldn't even be in a game anymore, seeing as how he died at the end of SA2.

Sonic Adventure 1 & 2 for the Dreamcast where awesome games, i liked the upgrade character idea in the second one but the free roam part in the first...Shadow doesn't need guns, thats what sucked when Tails was in that ghey robot

I don't think it's that bad Shadow has a gun, just think of it as in Sonic Adventure going around shooting with Beta, and combine that with fast sonic formula. I think this game will bring back Sonic to his routes in terms of speed, umm kinda, just without Sonic. I'd prefer if this game has updated Sonic Adventure 2 like graphics more so then Sonic Heroes.

I've NEVER played a bad Sonic game, so I don't think this one will be any different.
