Spike has officially bowed out of negotiations with WWE, posting the following press release today:
NEW YORK, March 10 /PRNewswire/ — Spike TV ends talks with the WWE. “After several months of negotiations, we have decided to end our discussions about extending our relationship with the WWE beyond September 2005. Moving forward, Spike TV will expand its investments in original programming and new acquisitions for its core audience.”

It appears that after September 2005 WWE will be returning to USA Network!

Looks like the SpikeTV gamble didn't payoff for Viacom or WWE. As reported before SpikeTV will be reduced to CSI, and some of their original stuff they create which is garbage outside MXC and Films of Fury which looks good.
Thats a blow though with losing of WWE. But of course I forsaw this as Smackdown was dumped by Viacom. Spike TV's shows ratings are like .3 to 1.0 for other shows. WWE Raw has been getting 3.7 to 4.1 ratings the last few weeks.
