It's amazing that videogame characters have not gotten their own stars yet, the viedogame industry grew bigger than the movie\music industry a long time ago!

And when those movie\music celebrities will be dead and forgotten by the next couple of generations videogame icons like Mario\Luigi, Donkey kong and Link will probably still live on and be loved and worshipped by many.

Thats how I feel Shade Valkyrie. You already have stars on the walk of fame that people have no clue who they are. With Mario and other video game icons, everyone has heard of them and will be around long past the actors/actresses and others that have gotten stars.

they even have a mario wax sculpture among movies characters.

I think both game characters and famous game creators like Shigeru should get a spot.
Here is a list of worthy stars IMO:

Humans:
Shigeru Miamotto
Hironobu Sakaguchi
Will Wright

Characters:
Mario and Luigi (in the same star perhaps)
Sonic
Donkey Kong
Link
Samus
Duke Nukem

Games:
Pokemon
Final Fantasy

Uhm, it's way more people, characters and games that deserve a star though, just listed those I could think off and feel deserve a star.

Great list Shade Valkyrie! One that I agree with. Well with the expection of Pokemon, but hey you win some you loose some. I never got into the whole Pokemon craze.

Well, I love pokemon and they are insane popular even today, not many games get to have their own hundreds of animes and it's said that Nintendo have sold as many cards to their pokemon card game as there are people in the world, wich is amazing, the franchise definitively deserves a spot.

...the viedogame industry grew bigger than the movie\music industry a long time ago!

Huh? I seriously doubt that. The main market for video games is young boys/men vs the movie market which basically consists of anybody and everybody with enough money to own a TV. Here's an example that will put this into prospective... Hitch has grossed nearly $150,000,000+ in its first month alone (not including DVD, VHS, Pay-Per-View, and TV). This is by no means one of the years top films. For a video game to top that it would have to sell 3,000,000 copies at full price in 1 month.

Well, I was thinking more if you look at the big picture. The movie\music industry consist of thousands of studios etc., while the games industry consist of a few major ones and some hundreds of third parties and yet this form for entertainment is up there competing with movies and music as the greatest form for entertainment.

But don't be surprised if games are, in terms of sales bigger than movies\music, in the 1990's Nintendo alone earned more than all of the major movie studios in the US combined, if you don't belive me read Game Over by David Sheff. For example, Super Mario bros. 3 sold, in terms of industry standards, platinium elleven times, at the time only Michal Jackson managed to make a simmilar performance.

How many copies of a video game do they sell? Seriously I have no clue. You always hear about the movies, tv ratings, and cd & dvd sales but I never hear about video game sales. I don't subscribe to the mags. so thats probably why i'm missing this info so can someone fill me in?

Most years there are one or two artists/groups that sell over 10 million. It didn't happen last year, Usher sold the most last year with 8,000,000, but in recent years I know Creed sold over 10,000,000 and I believe Eminem has too. That's just off the top of my head so I am sure there are others. I don't have any proof that movies and music gross more, but it would be really hard for me to believe otherwise (especially since you are combining the music and movie industries).

Edit: I just did a search and there are many album that have gone diamond (10 times platinum), many of them in the 70's. Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd (23 times platinum), The Eagles, and more recently Brintey Spears. Those names are just from the first 10 hits I got on the search.

Edit 2: Would it really make sense to have video game characters in the walk of fame anyway? That would be like saying Jordan was such a great basketball player that he belongs in the NFL Hall of Fame.

I honestly think the Walk of Fame is stupid now days. It is pointless even outside of gaming. You think people really give a rats ass about those stars on the side walk that are being walked on right now, this minute. With the muck, dirt, grime and trash coverings.

It is like those award shows they play all the time the ratings get worse and worse cause they are getting to the point of stupidness, fakeness, political and unimportant. It turns people off.

I've always wondered if the generations ahead of me will still recognize Mario, Link, and the others as worldwide icons. If they get a space in the Walk Of Fame, I'm sure they would. This idea does sound a little weird though. Shiggy, on the other hand getting his own space is a great idea. He's done so much for video games and the development of them as a whole, the japanese fella deserves it. And yeah, Kermit the frog is on there. So is Mother Theresa....oh wait, nevermind.

I think the video games icons we'll always remember like Mario more so then some of those movie stars and tv news people. Heck i'm sure if I saw a list it would include some that I have never heard of.

For all the $$$ you pay to get one, your right about the trash and that. On Good Day Live the ladies went to clean Steve Edwards star and it was really dirty. Its not even a year old yet. Wonder what the older ones look like?

(especially since you are combining the music and movie industries)No, I did not mean to combine them, I ment them seperate, as in "Movies vs Music vs Videogames".

And you are misunderstanding me here, for example a videogame need not even sell half to generate equal profits per employee, it's more effective profit and that was my point, in terms of profit effectivity\profit per employee videogames have been the biggest for a long time. - In terms of popularity etc. then music and movies are much more popular of course.

And about that platinum stuff, you are reffering to artist of all time periods, when I mentioned Super Mario Bros. 3 I ment artists in the same period, during that period it was only Micael Jackson that had simmilar sales as SMB3.

Just to mention it: a study done in 1990 showed that American kids recognised Mario more than Mickey Mouse, and when Mickey have been on that walk for such a long time it's about darn time Mario got his spot too.

That's a lot more signatures than you'd espect.

On a side note, Some of the older stars are really disgusting and cracked. I saw them and person... and trust me, the walk of fame is really pathetically shity.

Yeah it is, but its kinda slowed down now. Not many signed today. :(

I've never seen the walk of fame, but i'm not surprised. Sounds like one of those things you do once and you don't do again cause it wasn't what you expected.
