View Full Version : What do you want to see Nintendo Now Tackle Next?

Nintendo Now has plenty of columns, specials, features, and surprises in the wings, but while you're waiting for all of these treats, it's time for you to let your voice be heard.

What is a pressing issue, can be broad or specific, that you'd like to see the Nintendo Now staff team address in the gaming industry in a special editorial piece?

If we like your idea a lot and think there's a need for addressing the topic, you may very well see your issue addressed on the main site for thousands and thousands to see.

See something in a magazine or website that's outrageous? Tired of innovation being attacked? Want the classical style of gaming to come back? Have a problem with a particular publisher or developer's policy or tactics? See a quote from an industry leader that seems ridiculous? Plenty of things. Whatever you have, tell it here.

Hmmm yeah the whole thing about innovative ideas being attacked is a good thing to report on. If it were up to Sony we'd still be playing on the same DualShock controller on the PlayStation 9...

The death of 2d gaming is another good issue to touch upon. With the power of handhelds climbing there will be more 3d gaming happening and less 2d... what happens when the day finally comes and 2d gaming is extinct?

What Sony has done to Sega. That needs to be addressed. First, they kick Sega out of the console market, then they constantly make remarks about Sega, and finally, they expect them to make a great MMORPG for them. It needs to be revealed what a slimeball Sony trully is, and their abuse to my favorite company, SEGA.

Even though I'm on the staff, I'd like to see talk about "Gimmick or Innovation" type editorial. Ya know? Was the touchscreen equivalent to the GCN/GBA connectivity? Will Nintendo's "innovation" be there downfall?

i got an idea, might be good might not be but oh well

"Nintendo 'the Phoenix' of the industy"

talk about how nintendo is making some grand comback (probably better post-e3

----

"Nintendo Now on ROMs"
where nnow stands on using ROMs for games on systems like the NES/SNES when you can't find the games anymore.

---

"DS's Answer to the PSP"
what Nintendo or just the DS is doing to counteract the PSP

what would people think of an article featuring reviews/comparisons of DS accessories, like carrying cases, extra styluses, etc.? I've already proposed this idea to the other staff members, but as of yet, no one has offered to help.

I thought that maybe we just starting focusing less on the portable giants, (PSP and DS) and maybe focus on things like, the NGage, and all those other portables no one has ever heard of.
LOL, I really don't have any ideas =(

That is a great idea. You'd be surprised at the amount of people that complain about shoddy accessories and overpriced third party hardware. Maybe it could be a weekly column, as sort of a tie in to NNow's "Industy Watchdog" persona.

I think that's a good idea actually.

Not just the n-gage though, but how about doing an article on nintendos past and present handheld competitions. One week the game gear, then neo geo pocket, etc.

Talk about things like specks, games, it's level of success, and whether it ever actually posed a threat to the might of the Gameboy. (not many did.)

Reissue the NES. Bring Back a gold edition NES sysrtem. Even if they price it at 250 at release no games for it people will buy it JUST so they can play their old games. Maybee Nintendo could throw in some new ones too though. I think the lack of backwards compatablity is a major issue that Nintendo needs to address. Beyond that they still need to appeal more to mature audiences. They are making a valiant effort but it isnt enough.

wait, you want Nintendo Now to reissue Nintendo's hardware? how does that work out?

Well I've always held that Nintendo needs to bring back the most revered and recognized name brand in gaming history: the NES. They need to bring it back in some form as the name of the new Revolution console. Like NES5 or NES Revolution. Something. It'll bring back the adult audience that grew up with NES.

They also need to have the new Revolution console come with a hard drive loaded with NES and SNES ROMs. That would make it a huge seller.

O yea!!! that would be the best!!! awesome idea Mach...If only someone fron Nintendo would read this shit...Neither sony nor Microsoft could compete on that level...Modded X-boxes can do that...But atl east with this idea, it's a legal..and an obvious advantage...

Which addresses the other issue that i had in my post. If they bring back the NES and SNES i would sure as hell put money in for it. Especially since i dont have either. I still hink that Nintendo needs to address mature audiences. Personally I wsh theyd merge with Microsoft. That would crush Playstation.

the merger would probably mean the end for nintendo to make their own decisions though....

They dont sell, they merege. They hold all the rights to Zleda and Mario and the like.

Mach
04-05-2005, 02:31 AM
The point is in a merger, one of them has to have at least 51 % ownership which gives it the controlling share. With the controlling share you can control a lot of the other company.

For instance look at the Daimler-Benz and Chrysler merge. DaimlerChrysler is 51 % owned by Daimler-Benz, and they've since fired a lot of the Chrysler leaders and replaced them with German people.

I thought about this a while ago, but I forgot to post anything on it.

I'd like to see a critical analysis of the impact of "casual gaming" on the industry. And I mean an ACTUAL analysis... not "why casual gaming is ruining games" or anything. Everyone complains about how casual gaming is an unhealthy trend for games... but is it really just a new group of n00bs to hate for no reason? Maybe casual gaming is the future...

To be honest, those aren't any better.

Mach
04-28-2005, 03:46 AM
Well Shock and Odd produced some top quality art work with those layouts there...and they pay a great homage to our history of sites. But if you dont care for either of those than that's fine...

We have a new layout under construction, but until then NintendoNow has already gone beyond the other gaming sites by offering 3 choices.

Lynk Former
04-28-2005, 04:20 AM
First off before I continue, I don't mean to sound ungrateful of what NintendoNow has done, I do like the site a lot, which is why I want it to be better than it is...

I know you just think I'm just some ordinary user who doesn't know what he's talking about. But I do have a lot of experience with web design and I can tell you now that the current layouts and the methods used to create the layouts are extremely out of date.

The fact that you can offer three different variations of the site layout doesn't matter when all of those designs aren't that great. I'm being extremely blunt here but I am 100% honest about what I say. I know that 99.9% of the people never thought to question the layout but when you have the chance to improve, I suggest you take it...

First of all is the html, the coding is extremely messy and while I don't expect you guys to suddenly jump to XHTML1.1, it is best to clean up the code as much as possible, stop using tables, rely on CSS for the styling and then you'll find that things will run a lot smoother. Maybe you won't notice it, but I know a lot of end users will. It's extremely difficult to know how EVERY user sees your site so the best way to ensure that more users view the site how they're supposed to is by going by set standards.

Design wise, this place could be prettier, coding wise you could clean it up a lot more, but what really bites is the forum...

While you have the ability to choose between 3 NintendoNow designs, once you head into the forum you're stuck with the default NintendoNow design unless you switch to another skin, say the E-mpire skin... you really don't want people to do that, especially if you want to keep that continuality of the design. The worst part is that this site design doesn't fit horizontally inside an 800x600 resolution screen and that while in the forum you still see that navigation bar on the left which takes up a lot of space which is then wasted.

I'll say it again, I'm not trying to be disrespectful, but this place DOES need to improve.

I am very mindful of our weaknesses and need for improvements. We're working on everything you've mentioned and more. Thanks for the input.

SHOCK
04-28-2005, 07:43 AM
Lynk Former,

Thanks for your inputs we really do like when members of the site have ideas that are helpful. We are aware that the site has some areas for improvements, and those are already under way. When we designed the site, we designed it for a CMS that was also designed by us (Omega to be specific) and through trial and error we were able to get everything to fit into the package that you see now. We know that design wise, it could be "prettier" but we designed the site to be as effiecient as we could get it with the current requirements so we shyed away from most of the hard core images we could have used and went with the more efficient web safe colors provided in HTML. We also realize that the screen won't fit a 800x600 monitor, it was designed specifically for at least a 1024x768 monitor which had recently surpassed the 800x600 screen resolution in popularity and is used by a higher percentage of our target audience . We do have set standards, and we stayed within them for this last launch. With that said, We have already began (actually almost finished) with the redesign and new layouts for the network. Yes, we are using CSS, we will be using a new and improved CMS, and more visually attactive templates.
I respect the fact that you say you know a lot about web design, but our design and development team does as well, and we did what we had to do to get the sites up, functioning correctly, and able to bring the members what they deserved, the best gaming content on the web. With our next launch, we are getting to impliment more of the features that we wanted to for the last launch of NintendoNow but did not get the chance to. We are going no holds barred on the next release and I'm sure you will Enjoy it.

If you are a good web designer, why not jump in and help by showing your stuff to us and going out for a postion on the Design & Development team?

I didn't quite know exactly how the web development side worked for this place specifically, but it's all clear now. I didn't mean to doubt the web development team, I was just commenting about the current state of things.

Thanks for sharing all the info though, most other sites would've just said "We're working as hard as we can" or something simple like that. But a good explanation of what's going on was given which is very much appreciated.

I have a question. I know it sounds wierd but, do you guys want change because change feels good or is there a real reason for it? I mean, not saying that it's stupid or anything, in fact change is good... but I have learned that people dont necessarily want change because somethings wrong or not good enough. They want change because they are bored of the same ol thing. What happens if something goes wrong? What is wrong with keeping things as they are and appreciating things for the way they are? If it's not broke, why fix it? I dunno, I have had too many bad experiences with change to think of it as a good thing. Of course sometimes it is, but yeah, whatever. Don't listen to me, I'm just a crackpot.
