The latest issue of Electronic Gaming Monthly reveals the next titles for three of Sony's major PS2 franchises.
Ratchet: Deadlocked:
First, the next Ratchet & Clank game will be called Ratchet: Deadlocked. Insomniac Games is changing things up a bit with the fourth game in the franchise - Ratchet now looks a lot different, thanks to his heavy duty combat suit. He's apparently participating in a reality show broadcast around the galaxy, in which he'll be involved in lots of combat.
Wondering how Clank is involved in all this? So am I. He's not in either of the pictures in EGM, and there's no word of him even being in the game yet. That doesn't mean Ratchet will be alone, though. Deadlocked will feature squad-based gameplay, and on a possibly related note, Insomniac plans on revealing what will be a "genre-first" sometime soon.
Other features in Deadlocked will include more weapon customization, enhanced multiplayer, and even online co-op, meaning you'll be able to play through single-player levels with friends online.
Jak X:
With the Jak trilogy now complete, Naughty Dog is taking a break from platforming to try their hand at a racing game set in the Jak universe. After the vehicular portions in the previous games, it was only a matter of time.
So, why are Jak and his pals taking part in a massive racing competition? Well, unless they defeat Krew and receive the cure, everyone will die due to mass poisoning. Yep.
Jak X will differ from a traditional racing game, in that you'll be able to drive around and take part in missions, in somewhat of a GTA-like manner. These missions will consist of standard races, time trials, "time boxes," and deathmatches, complete with guns, missiles, and all other sorts of weapons and gadgets. Just imagine going all Twisted Metal on Daxter. Aw.....
Besides standard split-screen multiplayer, it's also rumored that Jak X feature full online play.
Sly 3:
Sly 3, much like Ratchet & Jak's third adventures, will for the most part be sticking to the formula that made the first two games successful. Bentley (the turtle) and Murray (the hippo) will return to help Sly retrieve his family's fortune, and will once again be playable, but in a slight twist, you'll also be able to play as some of Sly's adversaries. So far, it's confirmed that you'll be able to play as Inspector Carmelitta Fox and Dmimitri, and there are more that aren't known at this time.
Finally, Sly 3 will be longer than the first two Sly games, thanks to being able to go back and play missions as different characters, and Sony is hinting that there might be multiplayer, further adding to the replay value.
Sony's "big 3" will all be released sometime this fall, keeping fans of the three plenty busy.
