View Full Version : NNow Weekly User Poll - Week 8
Welcome to the Nintendo Now Weekly User Poll. Each week on Friday evening, there will be a poll question posted here. The poll is open to everyone except for NNow staff. After one week, I will post the results, along with my opinion, analysis, and quotes from this thread in an article on NNow. Sorry I missed a week, I was on vacation. The results from week 7 will be posted later this weekend.
Here's this week's question:
Would you consider yourself a Nintendo 'fanboy'? We've all experienced fanboys, some for Xbox, some for Nintendo, some for PlayStation. A fanboy is bascially someone who strongly believes that one company is the best, and generally believes that all the other companies are 't3h suxx0r.' But however you wish to define a 'fanboy', are you one of them?

This is a tough one for me, lets just say that I am a Nintendo fanboy in recovery. A year or so ago I would definatly be under the hardcore fanboy catagory, although I have been refraining from the Ps2 is t3h w33kest and 0hh hal0 box!!1 coments. Right now I guess mabye just a bit but I will always truely be a Nintendo fan.

Nintendo is my favorite gaming company (hell, favorite company of all) but I do like the Xbox. Not enough for me to buy one over a few good Nintendo games, but when Halo2 came out i was contemplating getting an xbox. When i played it however, i realised that it wasnt worth getting a console for. I still wouldnt mind one, but there are heaps of awsome Gamecube games that I want.
So i guess I would consider myself a Nintendo fanboy because, although i dont endlessly pay out everything that isnt Nintendo, I do buy every new console/handheld regaurdless, and will continue to do so aslong as i'm sane.

Maybe a bit. I own all three current consoles, and they all have games I enjoy. I can't imagine being satisfied without any of the three. But Nintendo does something for me that the others just don't, and quite frankly never could. I'm not quite sure how to explain what I mean.
I own roughly 10-15 games each for XBox and PS2, and about 40 for GCN.
I don't know, does that make me a fanboy? Nintendo's games just do it for me more. The other consoles have those dozen or so titles that I feel I must have; but I get a different feeling when I play my GCN. I just get much more enjoyment and satisfaction out of it.

I used to be a fanboy, but then I realized what a worthless douche bag I was being. I've played alot of xbox, and have had tons of fun with it, but Nintendo always seemed to be at home.

^lol. goddamn, tell me about it. I have alot of my friends are xbox/pc fanboys (the worst kind) who do nothing but slam Nintendo. It gets so fucking annoying, but i always pwn them and stuff. also, i talk with a couple of sony fanboys (ergh) and i found out that one of them was pissed when square and enix combined because square should be working on the story and enix should be working on the new and improved ideas, but they are doing the opposite or some shit. he went on to say that he is pissed because he likes innovation, so i laughed at him and told him about the DS and the donkey konga/jungle beat games. He didnt have much to say about nintendo after that. also, i was walking home from school with this moron sony fanboy who hates nintendo with a passion (whenever we get into a conversation he ends up punching me for reminding him how awsome Nintendo is), and he pays out nintendo without stopping, and i find out that he has never played any nintendo games since mario on Nes or some shit, so he comes over and plays SSBM and, wat a surprise, he thinks "its just ok".
so, the point to this rant is that everywhere i go there are people who slam and pay out nintendo and im the one who has to put em back in their place.

I sort of am. I personally think Nintendo is by far the best and would take the industry in the right direction if given the chance, but recent actions by Microsoft has made me have a lot more respect for them, too. I regret buying a PS2 instead of an Xbox a little bit.
But "hardcore" fanboys (also known as completely biased, ignorant and stuborn sons of a bitches) really bug me. Especially when they get their facts completely wrong and/or don't understand that their opinions don't determine the actual qualities of a system.
"I don't like the Gamecube, so I'll assume that it's the weakest of the systems and that Nintendo loses money all the time because it's a kiddy system and they don't sell many!"

m$ drew me in with its dedication to the universal question "what gamers want" not nintendo's question "what we at nintendo and japan wants"

What self-respecting gamer hasn't blasted aliens in Metroid? Everyone here has, in some way, shape or form, tilted towards Nintendo and their hardware once or twice in a lifetime. Why is this? Because Nintendo really 'originated' gaming, it breast-fed and nurtured the baby I like to call gaming to what it is today. That, and only that is what has this poll at such high positive numbers, meaning either the first or second choice are dominating.
No one can deny their bond with Nintendo and their games, because there is no one here whom can say the following freely; 'I hate Nintendo and absolutely hated playing Super Mario Bros. a couple of generations back'. The point here is that Nintendo will always have a tent set up in your heart and mind, because once you play any Mario game(s), your body changes so that it cannot just ignore Nintendo. I am a bone fide fanboy, and don't even live in the U.S.(France).

I am a little bit. Let's just say I favor Nintendo more, but I do enjoy Xbox and PS2.

I admire games that are found on other systems than Nintendo's, and i have played them and enjoyed them greatly. I also admire what Sony has done with the Playstation and admire what Microsoft is doing with Live and what it will be doing with 360 this year. However, i will always buy Nintendo systems (maybe one day another), but i've yet to see a need for another system than a Nintendo one (and a PC of course) and I will always love Nintendo and everything they do, I am a Nintendo fanboy, thank God.
Remember that this is based purely on your own definition of 'fanboy.' If you believe that you are a fanboy becuase you have all three systems, but prefer Nintendo's, then say you're a fanboy. If someone else thinks that that doesn't count as a fanboy, they'll vote differently for themselves.

I'm a fanboy, and for good reasons. Nintendo's the most reliable company when it comes to gaming. It basically established the classic and modern gaming icons that continue to entertain despite that they were introduced so long ago. It attempts to appeal to an entire audience without offending certain groups. Its products are made from durable materials and are offered at cheap and reasonable prices. It constantly changes formulas to keep the franchises fresh.
Sometimes it makes mistakes because it's old-fashioned, but Nintendo's always working to entertain everyone. There's a reason why so many of its games are so highly loved and praised, and it's that they work hard to bring us the best stuff. Three out of the five games that got perfect reviews from Famitsu were from Nintendo (Ocarina, Windwaker, Nintendogs). It still dominates the portable gaming genre. Ocarina of Time received more perfect scores than any other game. The transition into the 3-D category was successful with the classic franchises, such as Mario, Zelda, and Metroid. The highest anticipated games are from Nintendo. The culmination of these reasons and more is what makes me a Nintendo fanboy.
You've got a good point. Those three 2D franchises you mentioned, Mario, Zelda, and Metroid, were all brought to 3D by Nintendo on the N64 and GCN, and all three of their first 3D games got amazing reviews - SM64, LoZOoT, and Metroid Prime.

If the question was if others considered you a fanboy, I'm sure all the Nintendo fans here would vote "Yes."

No... If the question was if others considered you a fanboy unreasonably, I know that all the Nintendo fas here would vote "Yes."

I would just a bit. I am trying to think more openly about all of the consoles and am gradually breaking the habbit, if you can call it that.
Also I just noticed that it tells you who voted what on Vbulletin boards, cool.:)

I'm not a fanboy, as much as I love Nintendo. I show appreciation for great games regardless of what console they are for, and I try not to be biased. But, I still show my love for Nintendo, and I am the first person to show all my Xbox-owning friends that the world doesn't revolve around Halo, and that the Big N has some cool shit planned for the Revolution.

Would you consider yourself a Nintendo 'fanboy'?
Yes, definitely.
In my close circle of friends, I'm the only one who actually has a passion for Nintendo games. Only two of my friends own a GameCube, and I wouldn't consider either of them to be "hardcore" gamers - although I don't consider myself to be one, either. I have another friend who would go to the grave trying to tell me that Nintendo games are for children [read: teh kiddie!1]. Most of my other friends who own either a PS2 or Xbox are at least open to the GameCube/Nintendo in general, but I can definitely tell that popular opinion is starting to get to them.
I am a Nintendo fanboy in that I am a fan of Nintendo, and that I find their games to be the most captivating. I don't own any other systems besides Nintendo ones, but I will always play some multiplayer on the other systems. Unfortunately, the reverse is not always true.
I'm stuck with a bunch of gamers that call themselves "hardcore" because they own Halo 2 [no disrespect implied to the game itself, only the way they say it] or because they bought a graphically advanced game as a measure of their masculinity or something of the sort. They are essentially "casual" gamers, but I dare not let them know of it.
I'm not an ignorant fanboy, as I suggest games for any system that I know about not on a Nintendo system], I believe that Nintendo alone is not the sole creator of great games, and because I haven't yet burned my brother's PS2 or Xbox. ;)
I'm a Nintendo fanboy because I firmly believe that F-Zero GX is the best racer I'll ever play, because I spat out my drink when I read that the new Zelda would be realistic, because I wrote an editorial chastising (http://www.nintendonow.com/index.php?categoryid=6&m_articles_articleid=1758) Capcom for porting Resident Evil 4 to the PlayStation 2, and most importantly, because I work for Nintendo Now.

Hmmm
I would have to say somewhere between no and not really
I used to be a nintendo fanboy, but then i grew up. A good game is a good game, and nintendo makes more good games than anyone. However, im a consumer, and i like certain things. If the only system i owned this gen was a gamecube, i would really not like nintendo. Simply put, what nintendo offers me at the moment is not attractive. The xbox has everything i want in a system, and i would buy a PS2 over a gamecube even though I loved Zelda WW probably more than any game this gen. I can say bad things about all the systems, and good things about all the sytems. A last point, is i dont like fanboys, in the sence "XBOX rulEZ halo woooooT Gc SUX mario KiddYY" or "DS is teH roxOR fuack the PSP". What ever is good, is good.

It's not that the Xbox sux, it's just obsolete in my situation. Im fortunate enough to have a very potent cpu, therefore all the xbox exclusive content that i'm interested in (which so far is only Fable) will be coming my way, even tho I don't have an Xbox.
I have a PS2, I don't play it much. I mostly got it for MGS 2-3, Legacy of Kain series (which has gone way down hill) and a few other exclusives.
I play my GC the most and its one of my favourite systems even though it lacks 3rd party support. I also enjoy my GBA SP and soon I will enjoy my DS.
I consider myself a fanboy because I think Nintendo games are the best games around and I defend them vigorously when the Sony and M$ fanboys diss Nintendo or when Tommy Tallarico of G4 reviews a GC game (although there isn't much I can do about that... he's just an ass)
