I thought they left awhile ago... *looks around* But yeah, as long as they keep making games for Nintendo I'll be happy, I don't want it to be like LucasArts who just can't be fucked with Nintendo at all... damn LucasArts *stabs them*

Yeah, I'm at school right now, and I can't watch the video. Can someone please post WHY?

Well, it was mainly because Silicon Knights and Nintendo did not share the exact same philosophy, they share the same view on quality and such things, but the part where Nintendo is thinking about making simpler games crashes with SK that wants to make bigger and more complex games so they felt it would be better to follow their own path.
He kept repeating how SK have a very great respect for Nintendo though and that they still are "friends".
I think it's safe to say that we will still see SK games on Nintendos systems in the future.

^I got the same feeling from the video as well. Especially after the Sega comment. Basically he said they are working with Sega for publishing and if Sega wants the game on whatever platforms, then that's where it will go.
I also think they read too much into the idea of Nintendo wanting simple games. Does the new LOZ looks like it's getting even more simple than WW? Does Geist look simple minded?

Well, I was a bit confused about that simple vs complex part as well, but I can imagine some details that could get frustrating for a company like SK.
- Nintendo wants to use in game elements for cut scenes rather than FMVs.
- When it comes to simplicity Smash Bros is a good example of this, the game is complex and huge compared to other fighters, but the controls and gameplay is simple and clever enough to make anyone able to enjoy and get good at it. Nintendo is obsessed with the idea of making a game enjoyable for everyone, SK seems to want to be more focused on the players who enjoy the specific genre they are developing the game for, if they make a survival game they make it so that the game will increase the experience for those hardcore survival fans rather than trying to make more people involved with that genre.
I guess there is several other details like this that goes under the simple vs complex issue.

All the video in RE4 was using the in game graphics engine.
FMV, also known as CGI, is pre-rendered video like those in the FF games. They are created on powerful computers and then recorded like you'd record a movie on a VCR. That recorded movie is then used in the game for cutscenes.
RE4 looked so good that it didn't need it use pre-rendered images, it was all done in real time by the GC itself.

"Dennis said that Sega is interesting in all Next Gen and whatever makes sense SK will do it."
That improved my feelings about the situation. Also this comment is very interesting:
Will Silicon Knights be the same working with other groups as Nintendo? NO
So Dennis just dissed other companies that they are working for! LOL

I think Sega and SK working together is known. I think Sega had a press release about that awhile ago.

I know that this is a bit off subject... but something about the way you said this made me laugh... Bloodman, and many others in the forums, including me, have been talking about aries and his... predictions. But, the way you said that made it sound like he was some sort of prophet or something.... I just thought it was funny.

That seems really weird to me. Nintendo and SK seemed to be gettting along really well especially during the development of Twin Snakes. Does anyone remember all of thoose interviews with Dennis Dyack saying about how good the realtionship was with SK and Nintendo? They both seemed so set on similar concepts.

Yeah, he said that they had a good relationship and that they still have great respect for Nintendo, but that part you quoted from me was based on what he he said in the interview with IGN ...
There is so many possible reasons for their split with Nintendo, it's no secret that SK's games did not sell very well on the GC, and if Aries is right then "Nintendo did not treat SK very well". - But it's no use to specualte over that, let's just stick to their official reason for now, that it was their development philosophies that where crashing.

Then couldn't Nintendo just let them do whatever they want? Nintendo can't make everybody happy so you have Silicon Knights to help.

I think SK leaving Nintendo is not the end of the world. They still have great games coming up ahead and the Revolution at E3.
