My advice is not to use FireFox to download this. The download kept dying on me.
I finally got to view the entire video. It was believable up until the Nintendo On bit. It's entirely possible that the HUD is part of the system but the actual console itself looked out of place even with modern design standards. I'm skeptical but leaning toward possible. The brain just doesn't look right...

Anyways, someone spent a LOT of time on this - and it really is quite impressive and detailed. He/She/They are pretty talented - but this is most certainly a fake. We already know the Rev will be smaller than two inches, certainly nothing like that original design in the video. The virtual reality seems really cool, but I can't imagine it being possible yet. Nonetheless - amazing ideas and amazing video. Too bad it's fake.
Oh yeah, and I really, really like the name Nintendo On, as well as the system logo. Nice work.
while it's a very well done video, and looks EXACTLY like something nintendo would present at their press conference (remember the zelda trailer unveiling? you could probably expect reactions like that if thise were shown), i dont think the system itself could be real. why does it say that it can display on a TV or monitro if it uses a headset? and if walking around were the only way to control a game, that would suck.

I can't really say if its fake or false. Mario is too thin and tall and the way the Revolution looks doesn't fit Miss Kaplan's descriptions, but who knows? Maybe that was an early design or maybe thats something they need to update Miss Kaplan on. The character to show off should have been a new one or the original Mario.
Also its really not that hard to believe its fake. This could be something made by some students at my school to show off their art skills.
I wouldn't mind the Revolution look like that though. At least its better than just making another rectangular box.

Also the make games side in this video would be use to write demos or games from Nintendo's online service!

The only thing that made me think "false" was the part where you had to put the DVD into the headset, I just can't imagine how they are able to squish so much hardware into a helmet ...
Square said something about the console being a new platform though, which makes this look even more intresting...
And I don't think you will need to move around to play the games, I think it would then be using a type of tech that register pulses in your head, like simply think "move" and you're moving in the game, I read about it somewhere, but I did not think much about it before now.

The headset comes off the system. Its more of a visor than a head set though. The system is wirelessly connected.

You step forward to start the run and you control it with the controller yet to be determined.
Whats with the 512,000,000 number?
Notice the 0 looks like eyes like that one crappy quality video that looked like a Revolution commericals.
Why does it get Quiet during the part of the Virtual Boy?
How does the surround sound work? one in your ear and one behind your ear?
Shade Valkyrie
05-14-2005, 01:40 AM
HereticPB, the way Aries explained it almost sounded like the Revolution was using traditional controller... did we misunderstand anything, was he wrong, is this fake or did I miss something in the movie?
Flaccid, read my post, I don't think you will need to actually move in real life to play the games, but if you had to then it definitively would be a great solution for the inactive and obesse people in this world, lmao.
It's obvious Nintendo want this to be able to be used in combination with a monitor and TV though (optional probably), I mean, to let people outside the headset see what's going on, that was one of the problems with the virtualboy.
Another thing that makes me feel this is fake is that if this is true then to play multiplayer each player would need it's own headset, that would get expensive for families with several gamers...

HAhA, Samaus was skinny as hell!
I dont think the visor idea would be bad. Instant surround sound, super 3D, instant load, making games part. But it needs a hand controller. You cant use this while playing ssb.
This only made me more confused.
Is that little helmet thing the Revolution or is that Question Mark Box the Revolution?
Hmm .. and Mario looked SUPER weird. Not the short chubby Mario we've been accustomed too.

Aries did say this would use a traditional controller with grips, and gyro. He has had atleast 3 of his predictions confirmed so that can only say that this is either fake or the revolutionary part. Nintendo is gonna have to include tv cords to see the action outside the visor. That would explain why it would hook up to the monitor, incase you dont have a tv. And instant surround sound would be a plus for Ninty. But it HAS to include hand controllers.
Look at the video again and look at the size of the system (not including the visor). It's almost around the height they mentiond.
Im guessing that the box in the picture is the supposed Nintendo router.
Yea, if it is a fake, than whoever made it really wasted a lot of effort and time. That video was great, but it got a little weird at the end. Is that the whole video becuase it just seemed to cut off.

To create 6 mins of video like that takes time.
I dont know, after playing metroid and mario extensively I cant imagine seeing them like that.
I also have a theory on the 512,000,000 thing,
when it showed one it was the graphics of a 64 bit. maybe it is 512 million times 64 bit graphics that would be soo amazing but only speculation.

128 Marios (online?)
Firstly, what i saw was (for the 30 second 'load times') he put in a disc it took 30 seconds to do 'something' then the disc comes out. interesting.
Then, with the second bolded part, when all those mario 64 castles were shown (which was unbelievably cool) it goes up to 002,150,014 and it pauses, then it goes up to 211,348,824, then when it zooms out to the 'Nintendo' logo is goes up to 512,000,000. Does anyone see any meaning to these numbers? or is it just the number of castles shown?
Id also like to point out how cool that Mario castle looked at the end. And then, with the Metroid thing (this is the part that makes me question this whole thing), according to Aries Retro isnt working on a Metroid game, so they (probly) havnt started working on anything.
The last thing is that the music is from "Welcome to the Jungle" (with the Rock and that guy from American Pie, i think it has a different name in other countries). The music is really cool, but Nintendo usually has their own music dont they? I cant really remember but you know.

He also said that the system would come out in "2005" which is false since IGN and Gamespot both said it was in 2006. But to be honest what a video!!!!!! so good and well done. When i saw all those ctales it was like *awwww* Marios look and samasu's of course look fake but mario was tall and skinny is very old games and in the GBA game mario and luigi he was pictured as tall and skinny, to an extent, so who knows.

Quote is not working so read this
OK. I don't think that all of you people who keep saying "Cool but fake" are truly thinking about what goes on in the movie. If you haven't seen it yet, then look in the threads around here...its been posted a lot.
Lets start at the beginning. I like how the video starts out with a review of Nintendo's history...and it MAKES SENSE for a Revolution advertisement. Why? Because it gives the viewer an idea of just how much Nintendo has changed gaming.
I also have an idea as to what the scene with the multitudes of Peach's castles symbolize: online gaming. Think about it. It shows a "community". The numbers counting up symbolize the number of users going up. Anyone could and should understand that.
Lets get at what the controversy is really about though: the Nintendo RevolutiON. Or, shall I say the Nintendo On. This name is ingenious. It owns Placebo's N5 idea...
The fact that this video shows a helmet is really making you all think this is a fake...but to me it makes sense. Do you remember the part in the video when the helmet is shown next to a GCN and a box with a ? on it? That box could be the "system". It makes perfect sense. The box relays the picture to the TV, allowing others to watch you play. Technically, this is the "console". The "controller" is the helmet. And guess what? The are no touch screens(like Iwata said) and the controller is wireless.
I've played VR games before; they rock. But I also remember standing on a platform while I played the game. This means that YOU DON'T NEED A WHOLE ROOM TO PLAY A VR GAME. Its a concept I personally don't know how to explain but maybe someone can help me out.
This setup would also put massive emphasis on the online community. Unless Nintendo can make these insanely awsome hemets cheaply, one will not have 4 or more at his/her disposal. What does this mean? It means you better have a computer if you want to play multiplayer.
And I end here with the video which(IMO) is a video of Mario 128. Now, some of you may not recall this but there was a picture floating around here a while ago which depicted a Mario that looked EXACTLY LIKE THE MARIO IN THIS VIDEO. It was though to be a picture of Mario 128. I think it all adds up to Mario 128 being a Nintendo On game.
This all made sense in my head...if you don't get it maybe someone else can explain it better than I have. We will all know the truth in a matter of days...*gets giddy like a school girl*

hmm. remember Shigeru (i think) said that if you think too hard you wont get it? and that the technology has been around for some time? well, if this is VR then this fits in perfectly. we dont have to think hard to remember the Virtual Boy, and obviously the technology has been around for a while because, again, the virtual boy used VR.
:)
I dont like the idea of having to move around like an idiot, but moving my legs a step every now and then is cool. With jungle beat, i thought id look like a fool playing it, but because thats so much fun i (and everyone else) doesnt realise. I sorta hope this visor thing is fake because i dont like the idea of having to wear something.

That quote that Herectic posted was very interesting. But then again, I agree with Nintendo telling IGN to take it down. If it was real, there is NO WAY Nintendo would want it up. And plus, I bet the guys at IGN already know how the Revolution looks like, so they'd know if it was real or not. The Mario game looks awesome too, even though I agree Mario looks a bit out of place, but I could get used to his look though..
A part of me want this to be true and another part wants it too be fake, bah... oh well...
I think its been confirmed as a fake, and the guy who did it was also the one behind the Majora's Mask, F-Zero and Mario Videos that he's infamous for.
The guy has too much time on his hand.
And yea, the 2002 release date for Gamecube was a bit out of place. The guy is probably from Europe.

Please. He created one of the most innovative and believeable mockups EVER for a console and you say he has too much time on his hands? I've heard way too many people say this about this video.

Who cares if its beleivable, thats usually the point when doing mock-ups. It is a good video and pretty amazing, but you need a LOT of time to make something like that.

I think that Toaster oven looking thing is like a Magician using slight of hand. He gets your attention distracting you with his left hand when his grabs your wallet, watch, or switches cards.
That one picture of the box on the bottom is the true system. That does not mean the visor goggles are not true!

I find it funny that no sites are talking about this outside IGN. That makes me wonder.

Go to realistic Video at the bottom. I'm guessing this video is from the same group of people that did that.
when i download that video, i get sound, but no video...

thats ok i guess...
but i think its fake
the system is 3 dvd cases thick. The year for GC is wrong. (this is obviously european made).
and a virtual reality thing? that sounds cool, but it cud cause the start of brand new physical problems.
its posible though, but i sorta dont like it.
when i download that video, i get sound, but no video...
You have to use DIVX to play it.

wow..... I hate to sound like a jack ass.... ...but having to try and prove this video wrong is just dumb....
It was obvious the first time I watched it...
I'm not trying to be rude or anything....I just don really understand why people were all like... "oh man....if this is true!!!'

Celebrate, its acutally pretty fun since I saw this before getting drunk at a party on Friday and 5 of us laughed at the video and did impressions of wearing the visor and playing a game on this "system". It was actually quite amusing and we all knew that it was fake since it was qite obviously much to strange to be shown as it was...a few Xboxian fans teased this was the real thing but we all had a good laugh about this thing. Laughit up and take a deep breath and buckle your seat belts for E3:2005 Nintendo Revolution next week!

All I can say is, hopefully (or most likely) Nintendo's presentation video at E3 will be so much better. Nintendo is very much capable of making a real kickass video presentation like last year's E3, I sure it's one great roller coaster ride.

I'm sure most of you checked out that 'fan-made' video with a "Nintendo On" mock-up. If you haven't, go download it at IGNcube. Man, I really enjoyed watching that. The guys who made this must be really, really talanted.
The weird thing is, the more I watch the video, the more I'm convinced that there's some sort of truth to it. First of all, look at how fishy the timing is; pre-E3 and after the Xbox 360 MTV showing. Second of all, since when has IGN been hosting 'fan-made' videos? Remember, IGN and Nintendo are a team now...so this video could be Nintendo's way of hyping up the people, just like what Micro is doing with ourcolony.net. Sure, the 'mock-up' looks mostly bogus (especially with the 'making games' part), but there are some ideas which seem very 'Nintendo', the visor in particular. How about those Mario and Metroid bits? I simply can't beleive that these are fan-made; they look SO next-generation to me...they even look better than the Xbox 360 games we're seeing right now. I especially love the way the Mario bit looks; everything including Mario himself looks funky and stylish.
In addition, there's a fact which may give this video some truth. Remember a year or so ago when Nintendo announced that they will be extending the GCN's life by making some sort of add-on? Well at first we thought it was some sort of "Eyetoy" thing back when Nintendo registered a weird symbol of a camera...but then last year's E3 came and went, and we haven't heard of any add-on at all. Probably Nintendo scrapped the news in the last minute. Anyway, this "Nintendo On" isn't a mock-up of the "Nintendo Revolution system" per-se; it's a mock-up of the add-on device I'm talking about. It shows in the video iself arrows that connect to a PC screen, a TV screen, a GCN, and something with a "?"...the latter IS the Nintendo Revolution System. This add-on could be part of Nintendo's 'revolution'. Pretty slick on the wording, eh? Maybe that's how Nintendo's fooling us; it's revolution is not limited to the next-generation system only, that mysterious add-on could be part of their next-generation plan. Plus, developers can be more free if what I'm saying is true; if they want to use that innovative add-on's features in conjuction with the GCN/Rev, they can. But if they don't want to, nobody's forcing them to...it's an add-on.
In conclusion, it's highly unlikely that the video is 100% true, yet there are elements which are closer to the truth. I personally think that the visor and the Mario/Metroid showing are real. But what do you guys think? If this is 100% true, then how would you react? Futhermore, after reading my analysis, do you think that some part of the video is close to what we're gonna see in E3? Hmm...if this "Nintendo add-ON" is indeed true, then there's potential that it will be released this year to extend the GCN's life. Plus, we get to taste Nintendo's "Revolution" beforehand.

"You saw on the helmet how there were 2 distinct self loading ports, both of which were for DVDs. One says "play games" and one says "make games." Well what if you could do just that, make games...here's what I mean. Imagine you shove in a DVD-RW and you are allowed to change physical characteristics of the game, something like the N64DD allowed. The way this would work is that you shove in the DVD into the On and it saves it to the HD, then you make the changes and you save only the changes to the DVD-RW. You could then go to a pal's house an upload the DVD-RW, so long as he has the actual game and you could play with your unique game. Think it's impossible, well that's what everyone said about F-Zero DD."
Now that's a niiiice idea man....and very possible! I thought of this before when I talked about my 'expansion pak' idea...you know like what the PSP is doing right now with Wipeout Pure. Nintendo can release some extra content of a game in some sort of DVD-burner or a special memory card or even via net...then it burns into the existing game. My God...that would rock.

Edit: I just wanted to say that this mockup video has made its way to Gametrailers.com. It is now on IGN and GameTrailers. Twisted!

I could get used to that Mario, even though he looks a little wierd, but Samus in the Metroid 'game' is just too poorly proportioned, which is a main reason why i think this is fake.

isnt that samus actually from metroid prime and only looks funny because your looking at it from the wrong angle. if you were wearing the glasses properly i am sure it would look like it should.

The skinny shape of the characters was to show the player as them - the guy wearing it was a tall skinny guy or i assume as much, i think its fake but lord they did alot of work on it.

i loved the introduction bit../ i creamed...
it is an awesom idea but some factors are difficult, ne being what if you play your consoles in the attick? you wone be able to stand up
and also how could you walk around? if you almost walk into a wall you would turn or waslk backwards, both of these things will be picked up by the sensor and the game you would do the same thing..
eh
also, if the visor connects to the "brain" thats means there only one potential player, we know ti can go online but it rules out multiplayer games at home

I can't believe that anyone could possibly even think for a second that this is real. It's an excellent video, but it's clearly a fake. I mean let's stop and look for a minute and try to pretend that could be real. How the hell would you play? You won't have the space required to move all around a world in the confines of a room. You also wouldn't be able to see in front of you so there's nothing to stop you from hitting anything. It doesn't fit what we already know about the system (size wise and all) not to mention I can't see how that could feasibly be backwards compatable. It's fake - it's cool, but it really is fake.

You won't be moving around the room, duh!
You just take a hard step forward to make the character run, step back again to stop, move your arm around to aim etc.
It's fake, we are not trying to prove something else here, we are trying to do some speculation, some of us like to do that before E3.

i personally didnt believe it was real and still dont.
i, like most others here, think it was a well thought out vid.
even though its not real i still like to analyse it.
not to analyse it if its real or not, but just to analyse the ideas in it.
for instance what was the makers meaning for 512,000,000?
Edit: ummmm it got posted before i could finish look down for finished post

why did he/she show a box with a '?' on it?
etc
those are just some of the questions that people ask when they see it.
if they ask those questions in a forum does that instantly mean that they believe it's real? no
i actually didnt see anyone who thought it was real. there were some who said 'probably not real but i'm not going to say its definitely not real because i will look like an ass if it does turn out to be real'.
i am pretty sure that everyone here already new it wasnt real when you made that post

I bet Sony or Microsoft made it. They tried to make something so revolutionary that no matter what Nintendo shows at E3 we will be disappointed because the "Mock Video" had us so hyped that we are let down by what the Revolution really is.
