*just a random thought*

The PS3 and Xbox360 are nothing but multi media home entertainment super computers. What's this about the PS3 needing 2 HDTV's to play games on it? That sounds expensive. The features of the Xbox360 is like a web of confusion.

Thank goodness for Nintendo.

(Did I make this thread in the right place? :dur: )

Yeah this seems to be the right place. The latest Time magazime arrived at work and the Xbox 360 was plastered on the cover. During lunch yesterdat I was talking with all the other guys at work and most of them are fathers. I started talking about gaming since my supervisor brought the magazine along to the conference room. They complained about how high prices were on current consoles and the price of games. Once I dropped that the Xbox 360 and PS3 would price from $299 - $499 they said they wouldn't spend their money on such a console. They also agreed that gaming wasn't much of a place for girls. Then I brought up old Nintendo. They had a lot of memories from the NES -SNES era since they were in college back then. They seem to be trying to bring gaming not to just the "hardcore" and "mature" gaming market. Nintendogs peaked their interest for being a "game". I went on about DS sales in Japan and how this would appeal to female gamers, even some male ones. The touchscreen offers a new level of interactivity. It's so simple since holding a stylusl is second nature to most people on the planet. At work is it second nature given the number of PDA's there.

What bothers me the most about the coming generation is that Microsoft and Sony are once again pushing high tech gaming devices at high prices. HDTV and broadband just to enjoy the basic gaming experience. We've also heard from publishers that prices might go as high as $60-70 for top of the line new games. Even for me an avid gamer this is just too much. Even with my good job I can't afford to go out an buy a HDTV. My current TV is already going on 8 years old and works just fine with the Gamecube. I don't see any need to upgrade it until analog signals are off the air, the television breaks, or slim CRT's hit the market and prices drop. What about all the other parents and gamers who'll be nearly forced into buying a new TV for this next generation? What peaked by interest most is that Nintendo might offer output to computer monitors. This interested my little group aat work yesterday too. All of the have 17" or larger CRT/LCD's. There's no need to spend money on a new HDTV when your high resolution computer monitor can already beat it for less.

I'm counting on Nintendo to make a reasonablely powerful console and at a reasonable price. I'm hoping that it'll be powerful enough to run the Unreal 3 engine. That's my lower limit for the console. Sony and Microsoft are going to alienate a lot of consumers by packing in so many extra features. The hardware might be the first hurdle they have to overcome.
